Possible WWE Championship Celebration On Raw Tonight

According to F4WOnline.com, there's talk going around of having a kind of celebration segment featuring CM Punk due to his almost exactly year long run as champ. The brief report also states that there's talk of debuting a new WWE Championship belt soon, possibly tonight. None of this is confirmed or anything, it's just something that's allegedly being discussed.

I was expecting a segment like this since Punk retained andI'll be a little disappointed if they don't do it. The WWE has made CM Punk's current run such a big part of his heel character that it simply doesn't seem right, or even logical, to now do bring attention to the fact that, in less than 24 hours, Punk becomes only the 6th man to have hold the title for a full year.

If they do such a segment, which I think they will as it only makes sense, I'm sure it'll be interrupted somehow with Punk or Ryback, maybe Foley or maybe the NXT wrestlers will suddenly come out.

I think we may actually get a title defense. Between Cena getting a clean win last week and Ryback getting screwed again I can see Vince, the "Board", or even Vicky come out and demand Punk defend again. Plus it couldn't hurt the ratings.

If there is title celebration it will be Punk with a self imposed celebration of constant reminders that he has been champ for one year, and that he is the best in the world, and that he doesn't get the respect he deserves, and that he has been champ for one year, and that he is the best in the world, and that he doesn't get the respect he deserves, and that he has been champ for a year and.....

Now there are the magic words that we were all waiting for. Will it happen tonight, probably not. But could you imagine CM Punk in the ring, talking about his year long title reign with a covered podium in the middle of the ring. Heyman unveils the cloth and inside of a case we get:

Punk then proceeds to throw the current belt down while degrading it and its associated wrestlers accolades, then picks up the new/old belt and talks about how he is past the current guys and more on par/or even better than the likes of Austin and The Rock so Punk finds it in his best interest to carry around their belt.

Punk's reign is one of the most worthless reign ever. after he turned heel and even somtime before that he always HAD his title defended a total foolishness of WWE bookers they are ruining company's and other wrestlers reputation by this. i just don't understand if they want punk vs rock at royal rumble for the WWE title so be it. but why should punk stay champion until royal rumble ? can't he just lose his title and take it back some other time before the rumble ? he is now the 6th man who held the title for a full year and he doesn't deserve to have his name there and he didn't do by himself. that's why i say his reign is one the most worthless reign ever.

Well as it stands right now, there would be no point in Punk bringing in a new Title design. They already missed their opportunity to do that with Punk, which would have helped to put him over as a renegade babyface after he beat Cena for the belt. During his promos for his match against Cena in 2011 he said he would get rid of the spinner Title gimmick, but then he never did. Every week that he held the spinner belt thereafter it weakened his character. In his big shoot promo Punk said that he hates "This idea that you're the best", referring to Cena, so when Punk became Champion it would have made sense for him to immediately removed the association between Cena and the WWE Title by bringing in a new Title design.

So back then, a new WWE Title design would have served the story and helped develop Punk's character even more. Now, I'm rather indifferent about it, as he's already walked around with the spinner Title for a year. I suppose you could argue that it still serves Punk's character because he still hates the idea that Cena is the best and is mad that he doesn't get "respect", but it would have been better had they done it right away. I also understand that you can't just look at this from a storyline perspective, and that they have licensing deals revolving around the spinner belt and whatnot.

I've said this before, but I think it will be The Rock that will debut the new belt. He'll beat Punk at the Rumble then on RAW the next night he'll come out with the old belt and say how it's basically a piece of garbage and dispectful to the history and lineage of the championship. Then, the Rock will bring out a new belt or they'll let him bring back the old attitude era belt (which will be used only for his reign) and when he loses at WM, that champion will then bring out the official new belt on the next RAW.

Unless Punk is brining out a customized CM Punk championship belt (ie. the smoking skull belt), it's dumb to have a heel champion debut a new belt.

They could have Punk bring out the attitude era belt in a effort to taunt The Rock. If that's the case, he'd probably bring it out after TLC, when the Rock will start making appearances to hype the Rumble.

Wait, can you tell me how Punk would interrupt his own segment? Also I hope they introduce the new title tonight because it would make proper since. Now the Championship is being treated the way it used to be. They need to give us a legit title that's actually appealing. Not some theatre stage prop title for a WWE on Broadway play.

Yeah I also think we'll see a title defense tonight. I'm expecting Punk's title celebration will kick off the show and then Vince will interrupt and inform him that he's gotta defend the title tonight against either Ryback or Cena. A title defense on the last day before he hits the 1 year mark would definitely make for some interesting television, it'll get everybody watching so anxious & nervous, wondering about whether Punk will retain and make it 1 year or not.

I would love to see this bring back the Winged Eagle WWE Championship. I also wouldn't mind a title defense, against either Cena or Ryback (certainly not both again). Of course, this hopefully all leads to the unveiling of the new stable of Punk, Rollins, Reigns, and Ambrose, led by Heyman.

@ Mojmass please explain why CM Punk doesn't deserve to be amoungst those 6. In the last 25 years there have been only 4 others that held the title longer. Diesel (358), Hogan (364), Savage (371) and John Cena (380). You telling me CM Punk doesn't deserve to be on that list but Diesel and Cena do?? Get real. Savage and Hogan are legends. Cena and Diesel though?? As for his title reign being worthless I don't think so and I think you missing the point. During his reign he has shown more often than not that the title match doesn't have to close the show to be the best match of the show. Except for WM and Summerslam (arguably) name one PPV before HIAC where Punks match wasn't in the top 2 rated matches of the card. HIAC was different because he was put in there with a lumbering oaf of a character. Worthless?? Wrong Punk's reign hasn't been about closing the show. Its been about putting on the best match of the night. That's why he say's he is the best in the world.

I don't think Punk will unveil a new belt tonight. As a previous poster said chances are The Rock will if he wins at RR.

As for the celebration. Hell yes they should have one. Let Punk do his thing. He should mention (regardless of how it happened) he is still the champion after going through everything people put in front of him. Jericho, Daniel Bryan, Big Show, Cena, Ryback and he still doesn't get respect. Bring on the Pepsi and confetti!!!!

It doesn't make sense for Punk to debut a new title design at this point.

Rock will debut the new title and bash Cena.. Since they are most likely setting up for RockvsCena 2.

It was a strange celebration, no? I expected much more fanfare and the chance of seeing Punk get his ass kicked. Instead, the final segment focused more on Paul Heyman and the NxT guys than Punk. That he wound up walking from the ring, staring at his rescuers and seemingly wondering where his good fortune had come from, reminded me too much of the Brad Maddox affair.

Still, having Heyman controlling the segment was fun; there isn't a better talker in the business and the sight of him choking up at the very sight of Punk was vintage Paul E. Dangerously. Last night played a lot like Bobby Heenan's nearly apoplectic ravings at the sight of Lex Luger when he was portraying The Narcissist, back in the day.

The business with the chart was weird. Yes, Heyman made verbal mention of the legends who hadn't measured up to Punk in terms of length of time holding the title (Rock, Austin, Triple H, etc), yet the chart illustrated that Punk still comes in a poor 6th in comparison with the guys above him. Bruno Sammartino's 2800 days makes Punk's reign seem insignificant in comparison, no? That can't be what the company wanted to convey. Yes, the implication is that Punk's numbers are still building, yet the message I took from it is: look us up in 7 years, Punk.......then we can talk.

All in all, I'd been wondering how wise it was for WWE to give Punk a talking head to lead him to the ring every week. If ever there was a performer who is capable of talking for himself, it's Punk. Yet, after routines like last night's, I can sooner appreciate Heyman in his role as shill for Punk. His fawning presence seems to make Punk more important, not less.

I suppose what I'm wondering now is: Who thought of giving Punk a manager? Creative? Vince McMahon? Phil Brooks?

I remember reading that back in the day The Rock was supposed to debut a Brauma Bull title (Similar to the Smoking Skull). I think they'll have The Rock use that Brauma Bull title he never got to use after he beats Punk at RR, then Cena will ultimately win the title from Rock at Mania and debut the *New* WWE Title the night after.

I was expecting more out of it myself, and I wish Heyman would have mentioned the chart a little more. I guess if too much focus was put on it then Punk's reign would pail in comparison to the top 5 guys. Heyman did a great job as well, and I have to agree with Sally that it does make Punk more important as Heyman is almost exaggerated in his admiration of Punk. IMO seeing Heyman walk to the ring with the belt over his head makes it all worth it. When is the last time that belt was carried around with such importance. I was not surprised to see the NXT guys, and am curious to see how it all plays out. With the celebration though I would have liked to have seen more talk from Punk.
