Poor Paul Bearer...

SixMovesOfDoom

Occasional Pre-Show
It seems like all they ever do is have Paul Bearer tied to a wheelchair and be tortured to death. Its like how everytime JR is on WWE TV anymore he gets humiliated in some way involving Michael Cole. Does someone not like Bearer in creative, is he turned on by the experience, what is it?

Hasnt he "Died" a Number of times now?

Heck when I was younger and saw that Covered in Cement bit kinda freaked me out.

He ate his way out of the cement pile I am pretty sure. It does seem sort of pointless but I guess this was just a way of showing how 'demented' Kane has become.

Apart from a lot of plot holes in this, its just plain pointless unles Paul Bearer returns with someone to actually give Kane someone to feud with properly.

Paul is the Krillin of the WWE with his canon deaths. I really hope Extreme Rules marks the end of this feud and hopefully they can find something Kane can do that more interesting with someone like Orton who has been involved in the most boring feuds since 06.

I totally agree but I would rather they leave Bearer out of it, its been done. Many Many times! They just need to give him a decent feud, I haven't found this one with Orton interesting at all or even the one with Cena for that matter.

But I think they should have never even used Paul again.

Ryder. A Ryder feud would be good in my opinion. It would push Ryder as a more prominent face and its been much needed since Kane injured him.

Its a great idea, as you said they didnt really resolve that issue it was just forgotten. Ryder is losing a lot of momentum and something needs to happen and I think Kane would have no real problem putting Ryder over in the end of it all.

If they were to make a WWE "Best Sport" award, then Paul Bearer and Vicki Guerrero would be up for getting them right away. Let's face it, Paul is often used as a secondary punching bag, thrown into danger by various people, "killed off" (at least by the assumption of the audience) but always keeps bouncing right back like one of those inflatable clowns. It's pretty much what he's there for.

I wouldn't say that he gets off on it, but I will say he's good at filling the roll and, speaking as someone whose done a little acting, it's often fun to be in the role of the butt of the jokes or recipient of the abuse if you can do it right. Good example of that kind of character in Shakespeare is Falstaff. Come to think of it, Bearer is an awful lot like Falstaff, and I'm not just talking physique. I'm still remembering when he was forced into a match with The Big Show (I believe by Shawn Michaels) and kept shouting about how he couldn't because he was "too fat".

I think it all comes down to the fact that, while Paul Bearer isn't that good at delivering punishment, he's a pro at taking it and selling it. This is probably why the WWE uses him so often for this purpose.

He's the WWE's kenny, OH MY GOD YOU KILLED PAULY! YOU BASTARD!!!!

But yeah, Paul Bearer isn't a full time member of the roster anymore, so he should be used purely as a story line advancer.

well i all i will say if they want us to take the orton and kane feud seriously doing that whol thing tonight was pointless and then to top it off with the whole end when he took him out just to put him in again that shit was just dumb

they should let him be his percy pringle character, he would be a good manager to someone like the miz, the guy he manages in NWA has a similar style as the miz, orton rko'd his dad in his feud with undertaker.

That "Good Sport" award sounds like a good idea. Paul Bearer, JR, and Vicki Guerrero should get one. Come to think of it, Vicki should be in that group of good sports given all the fat jokes she got from the same people who always say "Don't be a bully, be a Star!"

Why should I feel bad for him? He is essentially an actor. He gets paid to do what the WWE wants him to do on camera. If that means doing a bit where it appears like he is freezing to death, so what? As long as he gets that paycheck, what difference does it make? If Vince McMahon calls me up tomorrow and says he wants to pay me a couple of thousand bucks to stick me in a freezer for a few minutes as part of the Kane/Orton feud, ummm...okay. It's just a wrestling segment. People need to stop taking this shit so seriously. It's wrestling, not life.

So, pretty much what Sly just said there.

Its called feeling sorry for the character. Anyone who watches TV, reads a novel, sees a play, etc. can feel for a character while simultaneously knowing its scripted. A pity such escapism be labeled "taking this shit so seriously."

But you are correct, money is definitely a factor. After all, who would go through this stuff for free? Heck, some peope wouldn't even go through it for money.

Umm...we are talking about a guy who for most of his WWF/E career, played a mortician turned wrestling manager who carried around a golden urn because it contained mystical powers of control over a wrestler who conveniently can rise from the dead, a guy whose character slept with said wrestler's mom and fathered his evil, twisted, demonic half-brother. His entire WWF/E career is based around absurdity. As long as he okay with it, why should I be bothered by it?

There is nothing wrong with absurdity. How many millions of dollars has Adam Sandler made by being absurd? How long would Santino Marella's career in the WWE have been if he objected to playing the part of a clown?

Yeah but that stuff was cool. :) This most recent stuff is just masochistic and monotonous.

Who cares? It's hilarious how Paul eludes death so much with less explanation than The Undertaker. He's a walking poltergeist. Well, wheel-chair tied and gagged poltergeist anyway.

Don't get me wrong; treating Paul like Tim White is hilarious. But making a national conspiracy out of it is just tiring.

If Vince offered me a few grand to have my dick chopped off by Kai En Tai...I'd be there bright and early tomorrow morning.

It's like being offered a role in a movie...but in this case its sports entertainment. What non-star wouldn't take it?
