Pick me an American sports team

Tastycles

Turn Bayley heel
In the coming months, I have decided to watch ice hockey, and to test the waters of baseball and basketball. I am already a fairweather NFL fan.

Having got Ms. Ginger-Tastycles to choose the Detroit Lions as my NFL team, I think I need more informed people to choose my other teams.

So basically, pick me an NHL, NBA and MLB team so I can vaguely follow the results.

MLB; Baltimore Orioles...why? Because RVDGurl likes them.

The Detroit Lions? Epic fail, on so many levels. Choose the New England Patriots. They're good, they are class, and they do things the right way.

NHL - Who cares?

NBA - The Spurs are what basketball is about, The Cavaliers have the best player in the league, and the Suns are generally the most exciting. It depends what you want to see.

MLB - I'm a big fan of the Atlanta Braves. The whole organization is class, and rarely will you hear a problem about one of their players or managers acting like a jackass. If you want to see a team with some of the best sports fans in the world, choose the St. Louis Cardinals. One of the best towns in terms of supporting one of their sports.

NHL...New Jersey Devils. THat way, you and I can be friends and Brian Becker won't like you, which is what the cool kids do.

I'll decide once everyone has given their ideas, but the reason for this thread is because my girlfriend chose a shit NFL one because she likes cats. True story, she chose the bengals for herself. I've stuck with them for this season, so I fancy it can't get much worse. I find the Patriots quite repulsive for some reason, even though they are part of my impressive superbowl winner picking streak, both by winning and losing.

Yeah, either you love the Patriots or you hate them, usually. I like them simply because I respect the way they conduct business. Class is very important to me.

hmm..

IC, I don't have a problem with the Devils... I have a Brodeur jersey...

anyways,
NHL- Take the Pens, they have the face of the NHL, they have a great group of young players, and an owner that takes no prisoners.

MLB- I am a Pirates fan, but I always had a soft spot for the Rays, and a soft spot for the Braves because of Smoltz, Maddux, Glavine, and Bobby Cox. Pick the Braves, New Yorkers will hate you, but you are picking a high class organization.

NBA- I am a Spurs fan. Duncan is my favorite player, plus they have Tony Parker. They are a classy organization, they are a winning organization, and they own. So, if you like winners, San Antone is your team...

NFL- Obviously, the Steelers. The Ronneys are great, they are the definition of a classy organization. You won't hear anything bad about them... Except from jealous Cowboty fans, and the typical Bengals, Browns or Baltimore Raven fans.

NFL- Eagles- Buy yourself a McNabb jersey

MLB- Braves- Chipper Jones jersey

NCAAF- Gators- #15 (Tebow) jersey

You're welcome and enjoy.

If you're picking a hockey team 99.9% of the time you want to go canadian. or the Canadiens lol. But for an american team i'd have to say the devils or the penguins are alright, i mean the devils have brodeur, a great canadian goalie, and the pegnuins have Sidney Crosby, who is possibly the next Wayne Gretzky.

I was considering Maple Leafs, is this a good idea?

Its a good idea, if you want to die. The leafs are the worst team ever, in the whole history of the NHL, and they were one of the original teams

:lmao: Why because they play defense? In that cas Celtics are the NBA because they play better on both ends ( with Garnett). Cavs are only good because of Lebron, Lakers and Orlando/Celtics are better than the Cavs. Suns are exciting but not anymore. Most exciting for me would have to be Pacers/Bulls/Wizards. They just have entertaining players.

If you like winners Lakers are the team. They play at the other teams tempo, so therefore they play better than the good teams they vs. What are they 7-3 to the top 3 teams?

are you seriously going to argue this? The Spurs have won four championships in like 9 years. The Lakers haven't done jack shit since Shaq left for Miami.

You can come in here and talk all shit, but LA has only been relevant like twice since Shaq left like 4 years ago... Don't give me that shit, San Antonio has been competitive for the better part of the last ten years, the Lakers had there success, and are now second fiddle to Boston, Cleveland, and possibly even Orlando...

The Spurs play defense, and play the game how it should be played. Not one single person is selfish, they hustle and don't take plays off... Get your homerism out of here, and see that Shaq was the only reason why La was ever successful...

NHL - Dallas Stars. We own. Take away injuries and a piece of fucking shit goalie like Marty Turco and we would have competed and maybe won the Cup this year.

NFL - Dallas Cowboys. We’re THE Dallas Cowboys, that’s really all that needs to be said. We’re the most popular franchise in all of sports and were the NFL’s best franchise until the STEALers stole yet another one this past season. Oh well, we’ll be back with ours. Soon.

NBA - San Antonio Spurs. For reasons that have already been said.

MLB - Texas Rangers. Brightest future for any team in baseball. See what the Ray did last year? Texas will shortly. Best farm system by miles, and easily the best offense in the league, and it looks to be that way for the foreeable future. It also helps that, that fuckoff Tom Hicks may lose ownership shortly. When are arms in the minors are ready to go, we’ll compete for years to come.

NCAAF - Texas Tech. Why? Mike Leach, our colors and we’re the fastest rising program in the Big 12. Football btw, nobody gives a shit about basketball and all those other sports. Here, football is life.

:lmao: Why because they play defense?
No, because they play team basketball, have good fundamentals, know who can do what on offense, and each member plays their roles without complaint.

In that cas Celtics are the NBA because they play better on both ends ( with Garnett).
The Celtics are better because they have 3 Hall of Famers. The Spurs have, and have had, 1.

Cavs are only good because of Lebron
Umm...duh? That's like saying the Bulls were only good because they have Jordan. What's your point?

Lakers and Orlando/Celtics are better than the Cavs. Suns are exciting but not anymore. Most exciting for me would have to be Pacers/Bulls/Wizards. They just have entertaining players.
This...this is a joke right? The Pacers haven't been interesting, or relevant, since Reggie left, the Bulls suffer from HORRIBLE front office, and the Wizards...well, they are the Wizards.

The Celtics are good because they have 3 Hall of Famers, but, aside from last year and this year, what about them in the last 2 decades makes you think they can sustain that? The Bird years are gone, and the Celtics were mediocre for 2 decades. Orlando is a fine young team, who can get better, I have no problem with them.

But, the Spurs are a regular playoff team since the early 90s, they've won numerous championships, and do it without embarrassing the game like the Pistons did, or like Kobe did.

What's wrong with the Spurs?

NHL- Who gives a rats ass

NBA- I would say pick the Mavericks but god knows where they will be beyond this season, so my bet I would pick the Lakers cause they got one of the best in the game today & the supporting cast isn't bad either.

NFL- Obviously the Dallas Cowboys. I mean we are THE DALLAS COWBOYS, the most popular & richest franchise in the United States today. We were the best franchise in the NFL til the referees helped the Steegirls win their 6th superbowl but don't worry we will be back & claim our 6th ring soon.

MLB- Texas Rangers. Best minor league system in Baseball today. We also have lots of hope as we have loads of top prospects that have bright futures & to top it off we also have a pretty good roster but the thing we need most is a solid bullpen & we will win the division. It also helps that ****** Tom Hicks might be losing ownership of the team. Once those minor league players are ready for the big time, then we will be a force to reckon with for many years to come.

NCAAF- University of Texas. Why I chose them? Cause we got a great coach in Mack Brown who led us to the promise land a few years back. Our defense isn't great but it ain't terrible either & we also have one of the best College Quarterbacks in Colt McCoy.

I don't really care who you pick...Just don't pick a team just because they're a "great" team now, or "they've won many championships". I hate people that do that. You should go for a team that you like...teams that have class.

I am a Mets fan and a Red Sox fan in Baseball. Basketball I am a Celtics and fan and New Jersey Nets fan. Football I like only the Jets. And in soccer I like FC Barcelona.

In terms of what they're doing this year...

The Mets are 4-5
The Red Sox are 3-6

Celtics are the 2nd seed in the NBA Playoffs in the east. They finished 2009 with the 3rd best record in the NBA. 62-20
The New Jersey Nets didn't make the playoffs this year. They finished 2009 34-48

The Jets went 9-7 in 2008, with no playoff berth...

I don't watch Soccer closely anymore but it seems that Barcelona is doing very well.
