Patriots Might Be Cheating Again

GI Cake

Thank God For Sodamy.
So during tonight's game, the Steeler's headsets used for the coaches were not receiving each other but rather the headsets could only hear the play by play from a local radio show.

Considering the Patriots' total inability to function without cheating, spying, or deflating, I doubt this is just a coincidence.

First quarter of the game and they're already accused of cheating?

Ridiculous. This is probably gonna happen every single game they play this entire season

So the story keeps on keeping on. Here's a report from the official Pittsburgh Steeler website.

http://www.steelers.com/news/articl...ts-28-21/ad8bc9f4-cbe1-4730-ac8d-e9e9aee21c5f

The broadcast was so loud that the Steelers coaches were unable to communicate, and the NFL rule is that if one team’s headsets are not working the other team is supposed to be forced to take their headsets off. It’s what the NFL calls the Equity Rule. Strangely enough, whenever an NFL representative proceeded to the New England sideline to shut down their headsets, the Steelers headsets cleared. Then as the representative walked away from the New England sideline, the Steelers’ headsets again started to receive the Patriots game broadcast.

Hey Habs, why are the Patriots so shamelessly corrupt? And from what Tomlin has said, this isn't the first time the Steelers have faced headset issues whenever they face New England in Foxborough. I'm sure if we look around we can find more instances of this tampering.

HEY HABS LOOK HABS, I FOUND THE THING

http://www.networkworld.com/article...rganize-wireless-use-for-super-bowl-xlii.html

The potential problems were vividly illustrated on Jan. 7, 2006, during the AFC wild-card playoff between the New England Patriots and the Jacksonville Jaguars in Foxboro, Mass. During the first half, radio chatter from Patriots security staff was interfering with the Jaguars’ primary coach-to-quarterback wireless system (a brief reference is found in a later USA Today column). The Jaguars switched to their backup system, and the GDC investigated during half-time.

“I didn’t have not one problem until I went into Foxboro,” Dansby said. “You can ask anybody on that team that year. We didn’t have no problems with my headset until I got to Foxboro. And, man, I tell you every time I came to the sidelines, taking my helmet off trying to fix it. They was trying to fix it, they couldn’t get it fixed. So we had to give hand signals, and we were dead in the water. They ran when they wanted to run, they threw it when they wanted to throw.”

Wherever Tom Brady walks, an asterisk should follow behind him.

EDIT: Deadspin wrote a big ole' thing too.

USA Today said:
Don’t blame the New England Patriots for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ headset issues during Thursday night’s opener, the NFL says.

League spokesman Michael Signora said in a statement after the game it was a “stadium power infrastructure issue, which was exacerbated by the inclement weather” that caused the interference that left Steelers coach Mike Tomlin seething after the Patriots’ 28-21 win.

I think Pancake ought to rethink his position in this thread...

But come on, Slyfox, be reasonable. The Patriots didn't win last night, and didn't win multiple Superbowls over the last decade or so, due to their merits. They haven't been successful because they have one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history. Their success has nothing to do with being coached by one of the finest coaches the league has ever seen. And it certainly has nothing to do with Gronk being an absolute beast.

No, it's all about the headsets. And a few psi of air pressure of the footballs. And Spygate. And whatever else the accusation du jour just happens to be at the time. I wonder what the issue will be next week. Because I'm sure it will be something else equally ludicrous.

But if they have all these things why are they so surrounded in controversy? I'm looking at this as a complete outsider and I never hear anything about another NFL team being accused of cheating, maybe because they're too busy dealing withing a domestic violence case or something, but cheating seems to follow the patriots around and where there is smoke there is fire

Because people, or at least a lot of them, hate winners. And people are unwilling to concede the fact that the Patriots have been an excellent and well coached football team for a decade or so now. I mean look at MLB. Who outside of the Big Apple likes the New York Yankees? Because they have been consistent winners for like forever (and I'm certainly not a Yankees fan, but that's the truth. They are struggling by their standards this season, and they are still going to make the playoffs).

Check out my user name. I'm a lifelong Bruins fan in the NHL, so clearly I hate the Montreal Canadiens (forever). Because their historical success cannot be disputed. Hell, look at John Cena. One of the best of all time, and look at the negativity that consistently surrounds him.

People are quick to accuse the Patriots because they resent their success, so therefore they are looking for reasons, anything, to throw cold water on it. And that's why there will always be a black cloud over their heads, and people clamoring for an asterisk next to their name.

I live in Mass.

I can't wait to see Beady retire, Belichick say he's done, and this team become Raiders east.

We all know that's where this leads right?

Care to explain why none of this ever sticks to the Spurs, Cardinals, and just about every dynasty in sports boy named the Yankees?

Let's try this; in the last ten years, has anyone accused Nick Saban of cheating at Alabama?

I have no doubts that Brady is a very good QB and Belichick is a good coach. The issue is that since they insist on cheating, or using loopholes, or whatever, we'll never know how good they actually are/were. It's a shame, really, because they probably could've had a similar amount of success without it.

Oh, and the victim routine that the team and fans like (sorry) habs do doesn't help either.

I'm just gonna put this here:

Pete Rose bets on his team and gets banned for life. Tom Brady cheats multiple times, and only gets fined has his suspensions overturned by a judge.
So you were actually serious? Have you completely missed all of the Deflategate nonsense? Did you never hear WHY the judge overturned Brady's suspension, namely because the NFL treated him so poorly?

You have to admit that ESPN article that came out last week was pretty damning.

Not saying the NFL is throwing up shade here but to act like the NFL hasn't protected the Pats during Goodell's reign seems pretty naive.
I don't know what article you're talking about, but I do know the NFL didn't provide due process to Brady, gave a very large punishment to the Patriots, glossed over the fact that the air pressure in the Colts footballs were ALSO underinflated, leaked out a completely irrelevant fact about Brady's cellphone, etc.

The NFL has done anything but try to protect Brady/Patriots lately.

This is the article in question.

I trust you read the judge's findings, so I don't think I'm wrong in saying the following;

The judge's verdict had little to do with exonerating Brady (which I'd argue he didn't), as much as they came down on the NFL for their fraudulent way of doling out punishment.

Also worth mentioning that all of this could have been collectively bargained, and we could have had a neutral arbitrator on these cases, had they actually fought for this during the lockout. Goodell's abuse of power isn't exactly new; he was doing this sort of thing to players like Adam Jones and Ben Roethlisberger, even before Bounty Gate. There was the perfect chance to collectively bargain for an independent arbitrator in 2011, and it was never taken.
