[Official] X Marks the Spot: Xfearbefore Xclusive Thread

X, are you a fan of the Matrix series?

Yeah. Love the whole trilogy actually even if everyone hates 2 and 3. 2 was pretty rad I thought and 3 was great if only for the super awesome final battle scenes.

The dance that song makes me want to do is so embarrassing. It would look something like this:

That song makes me want to run people over with my car, hatefuck a skank in public, and then assassinate an American official.

I actually allowed myself to get kind of excited for this year's BOSJ with the line-up they had, but after the seeing the results of the first day, blah... all excitement is gone.

Have you read the results yet, X? If so, are you as disappointed and flabbergasted as I am? Not a good way to start off the tourney, IMO.

Read them earlier, what about the results are so disappointing/flabbergasting to you? The only real upset I saw was Davey over Devitt, but even that isn't much of an upset since they've wrestled several times over the IWGP Jr strap, so he had to get a win eventually.

Well, first of all... I know Liger is damn near Flair's age, but to lose in 3 minutes? WTF?

And I was disappointed to see Devitt, Ibushi, and TAKA all lose as well, plus no match went longer than 13 minutes... just kind of weird.

Only positive was to see that Jr. apparently kicked ass.

It was by count-out though, so there you go. My guess is some interference got involved or something. No way does Liger lose clean in 3 minutes, ever.

I can see why you'd be disappointed with some of the best guys losing on the first day, but I kind of like it actually. They seem to be intent on shaking things up for once, which I have no problem with. I love Devitt, Ibushi, TAKA, and even Liger, but all of them except for TAKA have already either made it to the finals or won the thing in the past, so I'm not too upset. Plus you have to remember the tournament style they use means all four of those guys are going to wrestle atleast once more before being eliminated.

I'm happy they gave Hayato and KUSHIDA some wins though. I hope Jr wins the whole thing. He rocks my socks off. Cool to see KUSHIDA get a win for once too.

Man I've got so much puro to catch up on. I'm ashamed of myself. I've got literally like 10 shows each of NJPW, NOAH, and AJPW sitting on my HD right now, every show from February to now. I really need to start cracking into them.

And in an unrelated note, I'm sitting here watching a best of Bruiser Brody in Puerto Rico comp, and my god no wonder Brody was never given a mic, he just cut the most batshit crazy, drunken, rambling promo I've ever seen in my life. I think it's on YT, hold on....

The promo is in the beginning. That dude was definitely fucked up on a large assortment of drugs in that video. He had to be.

Good point; I was just disappointed to see him start the tourney off that way, especially since this could be his last BOSJ ever.

Definitely see what you're saying here.

Yeah, I've been trying to catch up on some of the current young guys in Puro and Jr. is definitely my favorite from the bunch. I've been impressed with what I've seen from Prince Devitt as well.

Lol... instead you're watching shit like Road Wild '98. :icon_razz:

Nah, Puro is something you have to really be in the mood for. I know about two or three times a year I go a couple of weeks watching a shit load of it and then go months without watching a thing.

Damn... that was something else. It's a shame he didn't live longer. You know ECW would have used him beautifully. Also would have been fun to see him in FMW as well.

I definitely don't see Liger retiring this year, so he'll probably end up in next year's tourny. They're going to make a huge, gigantic deal out of Liger's retirement so I expect him to announce it like...a year in advance to set up his final matches, similar to what Inoki did and what Dick Togo is doing right now.

Devitt is the man. He OWNED 2010, no doubt about it. I'm just dying for him to get a chance in the US though, God I would love to see him wrecking shit up in ROH. He's got to making really good money in Japan right now though, so I don't see that happening for a long time, if ever.

Hayato rules as well, especially his work in ZERO-1 and Battlarts.

Lol I'm a glutton for punishment. I've been trying to make my way through 1998 WCW for awhile though, so lately I've been watching a few of the PPVs left from that year I haven't seen yet. I could watch Fall Brawl '98 sometime tonight, or I could watch something that's actually, y'know, good. Not sure yet. I have been meaning to review the PWG Wrestle-Reunion show from January, which is supposed to be a mind-blowingly awesome show with Low Ki vs. Davey Richards and a legends battle royal that ends with Terry Funk and Roddy Piper re-uniting their classic feud.

Nah, Puro is something you have to really be in the mood for. I know about two or three times a year I go a couple of weeks watching a shit load of it and then go months without watching a thing.

Same here. Lately I've been on a big lucha kick as opposed to puro, been keeping up with CMLL and AAA for once, watching the Forjando un Idolo tourny in CMLL. I'm sure I'll go back into a puro kick soon enough.

Hell yeah Brody would have been awesome to see in ECW. I'm not sure how he'd react to the whole deathmatch craze though, he died right before deathmatches started to become popular in Japan and abroad.

Good ahead and watch Fall Brawl. Raven vs. Saturn from that show is a personal favorite of mine. I think you'll dig it a lot as well. :)

Yeah I dug that match, watched it some time ago and had it rated at like ***3/4, by far the best match in that feud. Man that Flock feud would just not fucking end, would it? I mean it was awesome when Raven was feuding with Benoit and DDP, but man, they just drove that feud into the ground. Some great matches, but also some reaaaaaally bad ones. WCW had a really shitty view of what a "hardcore" match was.

The rest of Fall Brawl sounds terrible though...apparently the main event is far and away the worst War Games ever. Only WCW could screw up War Games.

Well, in my opinion, Raven should have gone over in the Benoit/DDP feud and then be elevated to the main event to feud with the likes of Sting for the World Title, with The Flock still by his side.

Sting vs. Raven and The Flock was the most logical and best thing to do once Sting and Hogan's feud ended (in which Sting would have won cleanly). I strongly believe had Raven become to a main event player at around the time the DDP/Benoit feud was over with, WCW would have stayed in competition ratings wise with the WWF much longer than they did.

And I watched TNA tonight and I could not agree more with your assessment about Kendrick in the LD, man. When he came down during Hogan and Foley's promo, I actually got excited at the prospect of Kendrick being the person who takes the X Division by the balls and carries it. Instead, he loses to an ALREADY beat up Abyss in 3 minutes cleanly. That was beyond ******ed.

I know I can't be the only person who sees the talent in Kendrick. That promo tonight for example... nobody else could pull that off like he did. And in the ring the guy is phenomenal. Sure, he's small, but he's still believable. On top of that he's a very good looking guy, who truly works his ass off and cares about what he does. Seriously, if I had to compare Kendrick to someone right now... I'd say he carries the best qualities of AJ Styles and The Ultimate Warrior put into the same body. People can shit on The Ultimate Warrior's promos today all they want, but back then they mesmerized you. Kendrick carries that kind of promo, plus he can be every bit as intense as the Warrior used to be. And AJ Styles... Kendrick is every bit as good in the ring as he is and he has the same passion for the business AJ has. Why isn't he a star? Makes no sense.

I would of dug the hell out of that. But of course, Sting never really got a title run worth a fuck after that whole nWo angle. It was GOLDBERG time. A guy like Raven, no matter how talented, was never going to get those main event opportunities in a company like WCW. Which is why he was wised up and left on his own of course.

It would have been infinitely better than the shit they did instead, going from Goldberg to Nash to a hot potato party. I was glad they finally gave DDP a title reign though, even if it was about one or two years too late to really matter. I always thought DDP could have been the huge number one babyface if not for Sting.

It's not even that he lost like I said, it was just how. Abyss brings out Janice every other week, he couldn't have brought out a weapon or something. He just looked like a joke in that match though.

Man I'm right there with you, I've been a fan of Spanky for years. He was great in ROH, he was great during his WWE run, especially under the "The Brian Kendrick" gimmick and he's a great worker. He's a totally unique wrestler. He's not a star like AJ though simply because of circumstance and power. Everybody in TNA knew AJ helped build their company from day one, so he was always going to be booked higher on the card and be featured in prominent storylines. Kendrick tried to make it in the WWE, a totally different and even more difficult environment and it didn't work out, so he's basically starting from the ground up in TNA. Shit it only took them what, a full year to finally decide to use him in an actual storyline?

Spanky 4 X-Division Champ. The hype train starts here.

I think you haven't tried the right kinds of beers, or your palate just isn't quite ready for it yet. Kind of like with smoking or other vices, it might take a few smokes or drinks before you start to actually "enjoy" the taste, but once you do, there's no turning back. Shit typing all this up makes me want to go grab a beer right now, but it's barely past noon and I hate drinking before 5PM.
I wish you could have thought of a better comparison. There's no taste I'd like to acquire less than one for smoking. Human remains are probably preferable.

But think of how cool you'll look smoking Coco.

X, I think I want to have Kyle O'Reilly's babies.

If two men could, I'd want you to as well. At this point I like O'Reilly more than even Davey, his mentor. Though I REALLY fucking want to see those two wrestle, soon. They would work awesome together.

I've been catching up on my ROH all weekend and every match he's in, I can't take my eyes off him. He could be huge in ROH, if not one of the big 2 as well

My dad used to say this all the time. Surprised I turned out as well as I did.

I saw you lurking the WZCW discussion thread. Have you finally decided to join the rest of the cool kids in our make-believe federation for a fake sport?

...Huh? I haven't been looking at the WZCW Discussion thread at all. Didn't even accidentally click it. You lie!

Good news; I've taken up harpooning whales again.
