[Official] X Marks the Spot: Xfearbefore Xclusive Thread

I've got that one on my HD, still working through the Tag Title Classic II show from last December. That show had a pretty great TJP-O'Reilly match though. I really like TJP, he's definitely a unique wrestler. He used to be awesome as Puma.

I still need to see that show, actually, but the commentators mention it during this match. TJP actually works a bit as a heel. This match is probably easily in ****+ territory for me but I'm generous.

I told myself that I'm only going to get ROH iPPV's this year in order to save some money since I started spending so much on CHIKARA, Evolve and DGUSA. But I really want to see this match so bad. It's a shame Richards left Evolve because this seems like a perfect main event level feud for that company.

I can help you find stuff if you want to look for it, as could X more than likely (I don't want to speak for him) but you need to see it. I've been spending a lot on EVOLVE too. I have all 6 DVDs and I plan on ordering the replay of their iPPV

Sweet. I'll ask if anything comes up that I need to see. I usually just check Dailymotion or Youtube and if it's not there I forget about it for months on end. But I've got the first five EVOLVE shows and they're all really good. The only reason I don't have EVOLVE 6 is because I usually wait for sales, which are hard to come by for Gabe's promotions. Now that EVOLVE is on Smart Mark, I'll pick it up eventually.

As for E7, order it now. It's fantastic. Sami Callihan is becoming an absolute machine these days and he continued his streak against Zach Saber Jr. The main event was very good too and was probably the best Jon Moxley I've seen, which is incredible given the horrible shape Aries was in for this match. E7 might be my favorite EVOLVE show yet.

Sounds good. I got my girlfriend to buy me the first 5 when they had that Christmas sale and I'm so used to ROH DVDs being $20, that EVOLVE's for $15 aren't a big deal to me.

Man, maybe Aries is retiring if he's starting to get out of shape. Moxley and Callihan are two guys I don't really like in the ring, but I'm always open to being proven wrong when I have an opinion on someone.

Aries just needs to take some time off, he's suffering the same exhaustion and constant nagging injuries that made Danielson and Nigel leave the indies. Aries just needs to take some time off and he'll be fresh and recharged I think.

Also, that match he had with Chuck Taylor at EVOLVE 6 was awesome, Taylor separated his shoulder halfway through the match and they still wrestled another ten minutes and Taylor still worked his ass off. Made me respect him even more.

HOLY. SHIT!

I just finished watching, what a bout!!!

I started taking notes about what I liked and didn't like and got about 15+ minutes through before my pen died. Until about the last 2/3 minutes of the match, I was feeling about a ***+ ranking, but... HOLY SHIT! WHAT AN ENDING!!! I literally marked the fuck out when they started doing the headbutts, but I'll get to that later.

I thought the opening was a very good, steady opening. Exchanging holds like that isn't something you see much in the WWE, but I enjoyed it here. I especially liked seeing DBD lock in the bow and arrow, and I like that Nigel escaped it fairly quickly as it's an extremely unrealistic hold. Still cool to watch.

I thought Danielson's heel psychology was phenomenal. I understand that he wasn't exactly the heel in this contest, but he used heel psychology beautifully when he slapped Nigel and he dumped the timekeeper's table on Nigel outside the ring.

I've never been more entertained my someone really focusing in on body parts. Normally, in the WWE, they'll focus on any given body part for no more than 5 minutes in a long match, 2 in a short match, and it will mostly consist of a few strong strikes to the body part and a few rest holds where that body part is focused on. I loved when Danielson used the knuckles to soften up the body part or when he used it to try to manipulate Nigel into opening himself up for a strike.

One thing I did notice was that the selling could be better. There were times that I thought Danielson should be totally dazed and he just looked pissed off. Also, when Danielson was dragging Nigel around the outside of the ring, Nigel shoves a chair out of the way as he's in the hold. Fuck that, trip over it like a real man.

I marked hard when Danielson tried to toss Nigel back into the ring, only to have Nigel rebound and hit him with the lariat. That was out of nowhere and it was brutal looking.

I don't know what Remix is complaining about that cross body for. It was done to perfection, one of the most perfectly executed dives into the crowd that I have ever seen.

I LOVED the sequence where DBD attempts the sunset flip only to have Nigel roll out of it, Nigel tries to lock in a hold, Danielson attempts to reverse it, Nigel cartwheels out of it and hits the ropes, Danielson ducks the first rebound but when he attempts to hurdle the second rebound he gets powerbombed. Wow. Just wow.

After all of that, the match had a ***+ ranking from me. It was really good, but the emotion just never dragged me in.

And then there was the finish.

First they start exchanging slaps, and you sit up a little straighter. Then they start exchanging headbutts and all of a sudden you can't look away. It's like that moment at the end of a movie where you suddenly know, "it's now or never." Nigel connects with that ginormous lariat and we see that Danielson is busted open the hard way. Nigel goes for his Lariat finisher (which I agree with Remix is a stupid looking move), but Danielson blocks it and goes for a bridging chickenwing suplex. Nigel kicks out, but Danielson manages to hold onto the arms and connects with Cattle Muilation!

It was easily one of the most incredible match endings I have ever seen, and that alone bumps it up to a ****1/2-****3/4 rating for me.

If you couldn't find ANYTHING you enjoyed in this match, you truly are either closed minded or impossible to please. I went into this match with an open mind, though I had my doubts that I would like it, but I wound up loving it. Wow.

Glad you guys liked it so much, great match. I can understand maybe not liking it as much as I did, but to call it a "DUD" is fucking ridiculous. To imply that match has no redeeming qualities whatsoever and is a total waste of time i.e. "DUD" is absolutely ludicrous to me.

The open mind thing is huge. If you go in expecting a WWE match, you probably won't like it. The ROH style is quite a change from the WWE style. I think it is better, but not everyone will. If you go in with the open mind, not knowing what to expect, you can really find out if you like something or not.

He wasn't in bad ring shae. He was in horrible shape because of sickness. He had lost 10 piounds in the previous few days becuse of it. Sorry, that's what I meant from being in bad shape.

Yeah. I would almost guarantee that he went into to it either expecting a Daniel Bryan match, or went into it wanting to hate it so he could say that Justin Gabriel or DH Smith is a better wrestler and that is why he hated the matches he watched.

I don't know if I could sit through an entire show of those types of matches (obviously if they're all as good as that one I could, but I'm sure most don't even come close), but who could complain about watching one or two great matches like that?

Yeah. I would almost guarantee that he went into to it either expecting a Daniel Bryan match, or went into it wanting to hate it so he could say that Justin Gabriel or DH Smith is a better wrestler and that is why he hated the matches he watched.

Seriously, DH Smith? That dude is so fucking bland it's scary, he's a decent worker but he has no clue how to connect to an audience and he makes Bryan Danielson look like The Rock charisma-wise.

I like DH Smith's in ring ability, but he has a long way to go and a lot of charisma to develop before he becomes a regular in the WWE.

Hey X I got a question. I told someone to kill himself in a rep and he reported it in the Ask A Staff Member thread. What kind of trouble am I looking at here?

I'm not X, but being that he was an ass to you and it was a fairly innocent comment on your part, I'd say no worse than in infraction for flaming another user.

Let's make something perfectly clear, I hated exactly one match that X listed. The one that pissed me off as a wrestling fan.

Nope, I went into the first match (Black vs Danielson from the 6th episode of ROH on HDNet) expecting something very good. That's what I've come to expect from both men, and Black's had good matches with the likes of Bobby Dutch and even though I think Dutch is pretty good, I'm not going to claim that he's in the league of, or even the league directly below DBD or even Tyler Black. I was disappointed. The match started off with exactly what I hated from Senshi in TNA, one sided striking with no momentum being built up. It picked up after Tyler reversed the inverted figure four thing but it was still way worse than what I'd seen from Tyler in FCW. One thing led to another and I ended up red repping X to take out my frustrations on X via red rep.

If I wanted justification for thinking Gabriiel's better than Danielson I'd start by comparing their matches against Kaval in FCW, then I'd make a case for Gabriel being able to do everything DBD does as well as stuff he doesn't (throw Blue Thunderbombs on people the size of Cena and top rope lionsaults). I went into the matches expecting something good and in most cases I was let down by the match I saw. I AM biased, don't get me wrong. But I'm not blind.

Seriously, DH Smith? That dude is so fucking bland it's scary, he's a decent worker but he has no clue how to connect to an audience and he makes Bryan Danielson look like The Rock charisma-wise.

Yes DH Smith. His ground game is superb (he's the guy Danielson practices grappling with for a reason), and in addition to that he's got an insane arsenal of suplexes, throws and slams. So yeah he's got the capacity to do most of what Danielson does (hell, he did the turnbuckle flip aged 8) and then some. Which is why I pointed him out as someone who could give Danielson a run for his money.
