[Official] X Marks the Spot: Xfearbefore Xclusive Thread

Also, I made this valentine a-specially for you:

My internet shit the bed, and then I was in training for this crazy ass extra duty for USAF. I now do Military funerals, and fold and hand out the flag to the next of kin, im sure you saw some good boys doing this for your buddy. Yea, thats my line of work for the next 6 months, and it requires some pretty intense training to do.

Well I WAS extremely excited for the show, but as you can see in the old crusty thread, my GF crushed those dreams, as women always do

Lol a foot of snow, here in New England that's a nice morning in December. Actually it hasn't snowed much this year to be honest though, in fact now that I think about it hasn't snowed even once yet. Kind of strange actually. Something sinister may be afoot.

I hope there will be some snow in New Hampshire come the new year as I am heading over there to ski in late January...

Always fun, anything good in that pile?

I am unsure. There are a few I would consider "collection fillers" as they were only bought because they were cheap but there are also plenty of well known films - Avatar, Atonement, Monster, Blazing Saddles, Eternal Sunshine, Lust: Caution, Bullitt, Valley of Elah, City of God, although I am sceptical as to whether "well known" will equate to "good" in many of these cases...

Thanks, it really caught my eye. It's the cover of an album by this group Have a Nice Life called Deathconciousness. Hard to describe what it is...like moody post-punk-indie-avant-garde? I have no clue, but they're an amazing group and I fell in love with the album cover. So gothic and eye-catching.

It caught my eye because of the historical relevance of the subject matter. Yeah, I know, shocking that I of all people would pick up on that...

A "piss up" ??? Oh. That is getting utilized by me.

More British/Irish witticisms crossing the Pond - soon you'll be using the phrase "Any craic to be had during that piss up?"

That can't be terribly enjoyable work. My condolences.

Oh god, the humanity. Pussy over wrestling, how do you sleep with yourself at night?

There are some gems in there, City of God is, as the name might imply, godly. Atonement, Eternal Sunshine, and Blazing Saddles all rock as well, the others either I haven't seen or aren't as good.

I was totally unaware of it's historical relevance until discovering this concept album about the subject, which only made me appreciate the album even more in hindsight.

So I'm watching some of the wrestling I've been saying I'd get around to. Watching a NOAH show from 9/26 right now, Kotaro Suzuki vs. Atsushi Aoki.

*gets into sink*

*Semi Hilarious side note: After the big fight, I was in my car and looked at the clock on my cd player and was like "HOLY SHIT I GET TO WATCH TLC!!"

lulz.

Sorry to hear about it though bro, as Neil Sedaka might say breaking up is hard to do.

Yes, that was the lamest fucking thing I've ever said. By far.

Spent today catching up on a bunch of NOAH and ROH shows from this year I hadn't gotten around to yet. Watched the Pats-Packers game, great game by the by, so I haven't watched TLC yet, but I should finish downloading the show within the hour and am excited to watch it. This is the only gimmick PPV I actually really like.

Have you Downloaded Final Battle Yet X

Aye I have in fact, I'll probably watch it tomorrow. Spent today catching up on the last few ROH shows first before jumping into Final Battle. I'll probably post some ratings when I'm done for them along with the TLC PPV.

I have seen Eternal Sunshine and Blazing Saddles before but I don't think I was paying too much attention at the time... Think I might go with There Will Be Blood next but that is subject to change

Some of my "2 watch" pile have literally been there for years... I think Flight 93 and Ray are the current longest serving...

I love spotting historical references in unlikely places

X, have you seen Black Swan yet? I just saw it today, and I thought it was an extraordinary film. If you've seen it, I would really like to know what you thought of it.

Also, what do you think about Nicki Minaj?

I thought it was a Great PPV and possibly Show of the Year. Can't wait to see your thoughts

Great show, don't think I'd say show of the year, but still excellent. TLC was a bit better though.

What up, X?

Yeah, I come in search of new music.

Not sure how to help you, what kind of music you lookin for?

Still haven't seen There Will Be Blood, that's one of the biggest ones on my to-see list.

Fuck Flight 93, but Ray is great. One of the best music biopics ever.

I actually just watched this film 2 or 3 days ago when the screener hit online, and I absolutely loved it. As Portman says in the closing moments, it was...perfect. Aronofsky has long been a favorite filmmaker of mine but with this film he's moved into the elite of modern American cinema, Portman was absolutely brilliant (as was Cassel), and the film was as emotionally gripping and draining of a film I've seen in 2010. It's right at the very top of my Best of 2010 list right next to The Social Network and Enter the Void.

Also, what do you think about Nicki Minaj?

Honestly my only exposure to her is on Kanye's new album when she does a brief cameo in a few songs. Why, is she good?

I'm going to watch it Sunday.

Anything NOT names My Chemical Romance. I swear, if I listen to Na Na Na Na one more time, I'll blow my brains out.

Anything other than MCR recs:

Alcest
Titus Andronicus
Arcade Fire's new album The Suburbs

Just off the top of my head thinking of 2010 shit I've liked.

I think she's a pretty solid. I've been listening to the Pink Friday album all week, and I really like it. I don't think it's great, but it's a good start for Minaj. Minaj can go nuts with her rapping style a lot of times, but I like it. Minaj is really the only female rapper who I've been exposed to recently, so I tend to follow her stuff a lot. Here are a few of my favorites off of her new album:

Your thoughts on the following Bands
1. System of a down
2. Saliva
3. Three days Grace
4.Counting Crows
5. Fort minor
and lastly...
6. Skillet

X, have you heard Dinosaur Jr's Farm album yet? I don't remember us ever discussing it and I just picked it up at this tiny CD shop. It came out after Beyond and somehow manages to be more beautiful and entrancing.

X, if you ever get a chance to see Against Me! live you must go, they played for 2 straight hours dude! They played something about 3-4 songs off every album and Vivida Vas. Also, I got there 4 hours early and met the fucking bassist and guitarist when they came out to relax. Quite possibly, the most awesome day of my life.

Your thoughts on the following Bands
1. System of a down

Used to write them off as bad nu-metal from my youth, but recently gave their discography a new listen and now love them. Great band I really underrated for awhile.

2. Saliva

My only exposure is their radio and WWF shit, but they weren't bad. Everybody had that one album of theirs back in 2001-2002 ish.

3. Three days Grace

My only experience with them is their first album, when they were known as Groundswell, but I used to love that album, good post-grunge. Never really checked out their later stuff when they changed their name.

4.Counting Crows

I'm a sucker for the song "Colorblind", beautiful song. Aside from that I haven't heard much of the Crows besides their radio stuff. They're okay, occasionally capable of being great.

5. Fort minor

All I remember is that one song "Where'd You Go", never checked out their album.

6. Skillet

I dug the song "Hero" quite a bit, which surprised me because usually I hate commercial modern rock like that. I downloaded one of their albums awhile back and remember liking it.

Fuck year now that's more like it, Dinosaur Jr. is my shit.

I would absolutely love to go see Against Me at some point, I imagine it won't be too long before they come to Providence again.

X, have you seen Black Swan yet and if so what were your thoughts?

Yes I saw the screener about a month ago and absolutely loved it, tied for my favorite film of 2010 alongside Enter the Void and The Social Network. Aronofsky is probably one of my favorite filmmakers and I hope he doesn't get snubbed at the Oscars again.

Not bad, could be better without the constant snow attacking my region of the country for the last few weeks and more to come. You?
