Well, four spots have been filled so far:
Christian
Kane
Dolph Ziggler
Shelton Benjamin
The only one of these I find surprising is Dolph Ziggler. He hasn't really done much as of late, and I would have had him pegged as someone likely to end up left off the card. But I'm happy for him. This more than makes up for the payday he missed out on at Bragging Rights (could this be Vince's way of making it up to him?), and if he puts on a good show, it could lead to a renewed push for him, if the fact that he's in at Mania doesn't already signify that's he'd getting pushed again.
Christian, Kane and Benjamin are all staples of the match. Christian definitely makes sense, we all saw it coming, he didn't have any other possible spot on the card, and as of right now, he has to be considered the favorite to win. Kane and Benjamin are pity entrants in my opinion. I don't find either worthy enough to warrant a spot at Mania anymore, but Benjamin does some crazy shit in ladder matches, so at least that makes sense. Kane never does anything interesting in these matches, but he still has fans in the crowd and backstage, and WWE has plenty of room in the budget for that sick ass pyro. But honestly, there are so many other young talents worthy of a spot here who now no longer will be on the card. Kane and Benjamin have had YEARS to prove any worth, and they haven't. save for a very rare occurrence.
So, with four spots remaining, I see one more Smackdown star getting in, and three Raw stars. Who will they be?
Let's start with the last smackdown spot.
I'm saying it's gonna be Matt Hardy. WWE seems to be using the SD! slots for old tired veterans who no longer have any reason to be near Mania. I think we'll see Morrison-Truth-McIntire for the IC title, so those guys are out. CM Punk-Rey Mysterio appears to be on the horizon. Who else does that leave on SD?
Zeke Jackson- no. he gets no reaction, and he definitely is too green to be in a ladder match. At least Bobby Lashley had some natural talents. Jackson would be garbage. See also; Khali, The Great.
Luke Gallows- He'll be backing up CM Punk.
Hart Dynasty- They'll be lucky to see a unified tag title shot. See also; Tyme, Cryme, Croft & Baretta
Finlay- I like him, but he's a mid carder at best now, relegated to filler feuds. See also; Knox, Mike
Charlie Haas- Don't make me laugh. See also; Yang, Jimmy Wang, Naki, Kung Fu, and J, Slam Master.
That LITERALLY leaves only Matt Hardy, unless Goldust, Kozlov, or Lance Hoyr debut soon, and none of them are goin in the match.
Hopefully, We'll see a spot were Hardy gets an assist from Khali, they climb the biggest ladder they got, but then Khali betrays Hardy by throwing him through the announcer's table from the top of the ladder, killing him.
Now, onto RAW, where there are SO many more possibilities. I don't even wanna go over the whole roster, so I'll just say which ones I think will/ deserve to get the spots.
Kofi Kingston- He's not really doing anything right now, and he has put on a good showing in previous MITB's. See also; Carlito, MVP, Henry, Mark (I'm serious, I like the role he played in last year's match)
Sidenote: IMO, if Kofi is in the match, he replaces Christian as favorite to win.
Evan Bourne- This guy is model-made for this type of match. Is it really so much to ask for an SSP from the top of a ladder? His style is great for this type of match. See also; Tatsu, Yoshi, Ryder,Zach, Colon, Primo
Jack Swagger- He could have a really good showing. He's more than capable, and I could see a technical guy like him play an interesting role in the match. See also; Regal, William, Masters, Guerrero,Chavo, Masters, Chris
Santino Marella- I can dream, can't I?
I think the only lock for a spot is Kofi. He's one the few young guys WWE is 100% committed to right now. A lot of these other guys have a shot at a different match, maybe with ShowMiz or a United States title shot. I honestly think the storyline with ShowMiz and MVP and Mark Henry will continue until Wrestlemania. But if it doesn't then I think MVP and Henry get the other two spots. If they do face ShowMiz in some capacity, then I think it opens it up a bit. Evan Bourne, Yoshi Tatsu, Jack Swagger, Carlito, and Zach Ryder all have something good going for them right now, IMO. Carlito has been in a MITB before, which seems to give him some form of a shot, by the looks of it. And Creative has a knack for making decisions that seem outta left field.
I'm going guess/hope that the final MITB lineup will be:
Christian
Kofi Kingston
Jack Swagger
Evan Bourne
Kane
Dolph Ziggler
Shelton Benjamin
Matt Hardy
How does that look to you guys? Does it look accurate? Does it fall in line with your guys' predictions? Does the lineup even look good to you? Personally, I think it's alright, but I think it could be a better lineup. And Smackdown's spots are pathetic.
