Official List of Banned WWE Terms Sent Out to International Voice-Over Workers

He is doing what he feels will make the most money, but I do see him as being ashamed of where he came from in terms of the product that made him the millions of Dollars that are sitting in his bank accounts

I don't think it's that at all. I don't think McMahon is ashamed, I think he's doing what any smart business person does...he's diversifying his business, so even if one branch of his business struggles monetarily, it can be supported by the other branches.

It's like what Coca-Cola does with Mellow Yellow. Mountain Dew absolutely kicks Mellow Yellow's ass, but since Coke does such great business in other areas of the soda market, they can afford to keep Mellow Yellow around.

Vince McMahon is looking big picture, to make sure what happened back in '96 and '97 will never happen again. Pro wrestling will always be part of the McMahon empire, but wrestling fans are just going to have to get used to the idea it's not going to be the only part.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned in here:

This is the International list, meaning the majority of this means absolutely nothing changes for most of the people talking in here. This is nothing new at all as they haven't said wrestling in forever. How many times have you heard Cena say he's going after the World Wrestling Entertainment Championship ever? I can think of a total of zero. This changes very little indeed.

Last I checked the United States were included under the banner of "international" KB.

What, do you think they record different sets of commentary for the shows when they air in the UK or Australia or something? No. This memo is very clearly in regards to ALL of WWE programming, which obviously includes all of it's American programming.

I get what everyone is saying, but What's wrong with calling the actual in ring portion of his company wrestling? I understand wanting to be a multi media powerhouse, but why not simply recognize what laid the foundation? I have no problem with McMahon wanting to branch out, but I tend to think he's ashamed of being a wrestling promoter.

I don't think you understand KB's point. He's saying it's not going to change anything for USA viewers, because those "rules" have already been in effect for viewers in the United States.

I don't seem to recall hearing the term "catchers" in WWE ever. Also, when does international include America? That would be classified as domestic, no? Third, from the initial post:

WWE has an information sheet titled "The Language of WWE" that they send out to people that do international voice-overs for their TV shows in other countries

And you lose.

Because wrestling is a sport, and as such, would have to be sanctioned by each state's Boxing/Fight commission. By calling it "action", it's no longer a sport, and thus, is subject to the MUCH more lenient rules regarding traveling entertainment shows.

I get that part sly, but I'm pretty sure most state athletic commissions know the difference between amateur and pro wrestling. I understand the legality (loophole) of calling it sports entertainment. However, let me know the reasons, how can TNA get away with being a "wrestling" company?

Holy shit you're thick headed. Did you not notice how I used the example of two foreign countries THAT SPEAK ENGLISH KB? No fucking shit they have different commentary in Asia or Mexico, they don't speak English. Not the point I was making, at all. They don't record new commentary solely for broadcasts in English-speaking foreign countries like the UK or Australia.

But cool try bro.

X called me thick headed. Hang on a sec.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!

So let's see. It says international, in other countries, yet I'm wrong. Hilarious.

So in other words, since they speak English there and there wouldn't be voiceovers for them, what you said has absolutely no bearing on this discussion at all. Got it.

Wow some people are conflicted with this while some people down right oppose the whole concept and then there are those who don't seem to mind it.

I'm kind of on the fence with it. There are things that really shouldn't effect my entire view on the WWE because hardly any of it effects the product that I watch on my T.V and really, that's the only part I'm really concerned about.

However I don't really like to refer to my wrestling as "Action Soap Opera". It just sounds weird to relate anything sports or even sports entertainment to a soap opera..it just doesn't seem proper to me.

Then their is the whole not acknowledging their product as wrestling. To shun any acknowledge of the main aspect of the product..which is "Wrestling" also makes little sense to me..I mean that's what they do and that's what they have always done they wrestle and to blunt that is what their fans will always know them as along with the rest of the world. So honestly why change that image? Just to be taken more seriously? I mean will a WWE wrestling ring no longer be that? But an entertainment battle ground of sorts? Also what of their biggest PPV of the year? Will Wrestlemania get a name change? Enterainmentmania..or Entrainmentpalooza. WWE main focus and product is Wrestling, whether you call it that or entertainment it is still Wrestling..so why not call it that? What does Vince have to be ashamed of? He brought the business into another light and made the WWE a household name. Ahh I could go on but I think I'm finished with my rant..bottom line is that out of everything on those list, these two bother me the most. The rest honestly doesn't effect me so I'm not going to complain to much.

The states might know, but it just closes any chance for the government to get mixed up in their affairs. For example, remember the steroid thing a few years ago? The WWE is trying to distance itself as much as possible from any association with sports.

However, let me know the reasons, how can TNA get away with being a "wrestling" company.
I don't know that they are necessarily getting away with it. I don't know what their situation is. I do know most of their business is conducted in Florida, so they don't have the same causes of concern that the globally performing WWE does.

For the record, TNA were prevented from holding a PPV match between Abyss and Ricky Benderas a few years back, and I think it was by an athletic commission or somesuch.
They had to film it in Orlando instead and air it via tape.

I could be wrong, but if not then it bares thinking about.

It was an athletic commission yeah.

I'm at odds with this! I'd like Punk vs. Charlie Stubbs. Mental mind screwing at its finest. :worship:

My mum's currently helping Charlie Stubbs (AKA Bill Ward) buy a house. Or sell a house. Something to do with a house. True story. Apparently, he has a lovely phone manner.

...WWE at this rate is gonna become a gameshow. Lose your match, you get SLIMED!

They already had the "Raw Roulette Wheel"!, and didnt DX Slime Vince and Shane one time?

Calling professional wrestling an "action soap opera" is an insult to the many wrestlers who put their bodies on the line for Vince McMahon almost every night of the year and have ended up in wheelchairs, dead from painkiller addiction or physical wrecks from their years of pushing themselves through the pain barrier for something they loved and believed in.

Guys like Bret Hart, Ric Flair, Harley Race, Dynamite Kid, Mick Foley, Terry Funk, Ricky Steamboat, Dusty Rhodes. Were they soap opera performers? NO. They were were wrestlers who put their bodies through hell for you.

Is Edge, a man who has just retired from wrestling due to severe injuries, a soap opera performer? No, he is another professional wrestler, and proud to be one.

They are PROFESSIONAL WRESTLERS Vince. You are ashamed of your own product. Let someone else take over if you do not want to be associated with the wrestling business any more.

No, just no. Professional has ALWAYS been a soap opera, regardless of how it was referred to. It is a show with pre-determined results, in which we see people fall in love, and then hate each other, where we see guys playing characters, etc.

How is that NOT a soap opera? My God, it amazes me how upset people are getting over labels.

I agree, though I think it's more the excess of melodrama and the departure from realism that makes it a soap opera. Oh, and I prefer the term "soap."

this annoys me, i thought the wwe was suposed to be about wrestling instead of the boring soap opera crap. of course thats just me, i actually watch RAW and SD cause i wanna see matches, of course vince would kill his own company for his own personal gain and leave people who want actual wrestling hanging, just cause they wanna entertain a bunch of snot nosed lil brats.

One life to live and All my children were canceled. How long until the genetic jackhammer walks out on General hospital and proceeds to take another genre with a stigma and make the quality even worse?
