[Official] Harthan is more badass than you via ponies, magic, and stuff.

Fairy Tail is really the only [long] anime that I'm watching; Naruto is slow as fuck right now, and Bleach is on hiatus. Smaller series include Freezing, and the last season of Familiar of Zero.

You know I was thinking about it just now, the string of Brony champs in the fed is still alive. Stormrage was holding it down after Kurtesy lost the world title, then Strikeforce loses the tag belts but Drake wins the world title.

I still have hope that eventually down the road we will be able to do at least a one off where Kurtesy, Drake, and Stormrage form a Brony stable. Maybe we could have James Howard but Shotaro thinks AJ is best pony and I sort of hate him for that

Haha... Shotaro things AJ is the best pony ever. That's pretty hilarious.

AJ is awesome and fuck you guys and your mothers, possibly sisters too as long as they're not too young.

So this is yet another Bronie HQ? Are there three of them now?

I have no idea, but Ponies are awesome and deserve three THOUSAND threads to satisfy said awesomeness. Also the other threads kind of failed because there are no new episodes on right now - the first one was purely to stop us clogging up the WZCW thread with pony memes and the second appeared because the first one died so fast and everyone forgot about it.

Someone lent me the first seven sets of Naruto Unleashed (up to episode 91 or so) it's pretty good so far. Up to Naruto vs Neji in the Chunin tournament. Since the best way to find stuff has now been blocked by UK ISPs could you point me in the right direction for finding the rest? - I'm after english dubs though since I have it on in the background whilst I play MMOs...

I watch probably 90 percent of all of my anime on different free anime streaming sites [the other 10 comes from Youtube and Dailymotion]. The original Naruto series dubbed isn't hard to find if you look; however, finding the series uncut can be difficult. Depends on if you care or not.

Not massively bothered about uncut (to be honest I've not seen anything that would need to be cut anyway) what's a good site to look at - I'll probably be done with the DVDs by the end of the week.

Observation: Naruto is a pile of unmitigated shit.

On a more positive note; I watched Gankutsuou: The count of Monte Cristo recently, and despite an abortion of a final act it still managed to bring the number of worthwhile anime I have watched up to four (Discounting Ghibli movies and episodes of Pokemon featuring Charizard).

How so? I've probably watched about 40 something anime series, and it's one of the most well written series I've seen.

Yeah; this isn't true. In a more rational frame of mind I'd be quite happy to concede that Naruto is a solid kids show and that many people may like it... but by no contemporary Western standard is that show well written, even compared to the quagmire that is most of the rest of anime.

Naruto is probably the most didactic mess of a show I have ever watched. The assumption is constantly that the audience is stupid, and needs every plot and character element carefully explained to them multiple times. Seriously, it's not uncommon for episodes to feature extensive flashbacks of things that happened less than ten minutes ago. Possibly the most fundamental rule of quality writing is the notion of show don't tell, and Naruto fails at this harder than any other show I can think of (except possibly Pokemon, but even then only maybe). In Naruto characters spout expository dialogue non-stop. Even when they're supposed to be twatting one another they just can't shut up explaining the plot and breaking down their character to the audience. That's basically a dictionary definitions of bad writing.

There's nothing anywhere in the show's first two arcs that could be held up as an example of quality writing or storytelling.

That's not even getting started on the show's roster of one dimensional and frequently unlikable trope characters, it's lazy dependence on flashbacks as a substitute for character development, its choking abundance of filler material and its complete lack of any kind of narrative direction or focus right up until the end of the Chunin Exam arc (roughly where I gave up on the show).

Even the action is decidedly mediocre when held against its contemporaries in the tournament fighter genre (none of which I've watched to be clear, but I've seen clips).

There are few things that annoy me more in children's television than the assumption that children are stupid. Full Metal Alchemist was popular with children and adults alike, and it didn't feel the need to constantly patronize them. It felt confident enough to introduce complex multi-dimensional characters who behave with subtlety and nuance, and it wove a narrative that dealt with interesting and borderline complex themes. Naruto deals with no themes or issues and perpetually insults the intelligence of the viewer. FMA was well written, Naruto was not.

I'm going to take this with a grain of salt since you're are describing the anime and not the manga [since repeating plot elements are very limited].

Naruto Shippuden is generally accepted as being more mature and more intelligent. Have you read enough of that to give an opinion on if it's an improvement or not?

I was under the impression we were talking about anime?

I don't think I've read a manga in my life - perfectly plausible that the comic would be less shit, I wouldn't know. And no, I've never touched Shippuden. I watched the main series up to the end of the Chunin exam arc, then gave up when it became apparent that I was going to be subjected to another mountain of filler. In truth I only got that far because I was stuck on holiday with no friends local and nothing to do but stream videos on Youtube. In retrospect I am amazed I watched past the point where Naruto wins a major fight by farting.

I was talking about the series in general, and I always use the canon when I do. The writing doesn't usually change across manga to anime; the filler and flashbacks are merely a way to make the series longer so Viz Media can get more money.

Interesting that you'd use the Pokemon anime as a comparison though; that series is unique because the games are the canon; the manga is spun off from the games, and the anime is spun off from the manga. As long as they keep churning out new games, that anime will never stop.

So Harthan, how is MTG coming along for you? Any interesting ideas?

I'm running with a U/B Zombies deck right now. It's not the best but I've achieved some success with it. When I have a little more money in the pocket I'll probably build a new deck post Ravnica, once the meta adjusts.

I wanna see Derpy in flight school

Yeah, this would be really awesome. Just more Derpy in general. I hope they get over the little PR scare they had in Season 2 and give us more Derpy.

You guys are forgetting the episode "Griffon the Brush-Off". Pinkie and Dashie are pulling pranks all around town, and when RD wants to prank Fluttershy, Pinkie steps in and says no. Then, Pinkie orchestrated all the pranks on that bitch Gilda for being mean to Fluttershy.

Gilda is a bitch

Gilda IS a fucking bitch. Fuck that cunt.

I guess that's one instance of Pinkie Pie being protective of Fluttershy, but I don't really see them as being super close friends. I mean, Pinkie doesn't really have super close friends, she just has a shit ton of friends on an equal level. Whereas I think Fluttershy is really close with Rarity and Rainbow Dash and less so with the other ponies.

It's because bronies are best efedders.

Maybe on another All-Stars or something. It'd have to be non-canon.

...hey, Harthantastic

...actually I'm high so I've got nothing, uh... purple's a neat color how awesome is aries

Aries rocks. I should watch more TNA than I do, really, because he's so awesome.

Haha... Shotaro things AJ is the best pony ever. That's pretty hilarious.

AJ is cool, but not best pony material. I feel like she'd be last on a list of how many people consider her best pony.

So this is yet another Bronie HQ? Are there three of them now?

We'll talk about ponies here. But we'll also talk about anything else. DEAL WITH IT.

At least I got some recommendations from you guys.

I haven't really seen much Naruto, but what I saw when I was younger. It was okay.

I'm not awesome enough to have my own thread. You have to be a 10 on the scale of awesome and I'm ony a 9.5647937.

Try a Goblin deck dude. I ran Goblins this past weekend at FNM and at Gameday and kicked so much ass.

Freezing's good if you like watching hot women, violence, and gore. Only 12 episodes, crisp HD animation, no English dub though.
