NorCal answers Wrestling (and all other) questions!

Thinking of starting up my own blog/site on the ancient world (and history in general).

A nice of mix of interesting, well-researched episodes from history and some silliness thrown together with book/film reviews, videos, facts, quotations etc.

I would read the shit out of that.

Speaking of, how close are you and I (so, mostly you) to being ready for our next couple episodes? Someone semi famous is interested in them. Kind of. Like in a "if I mention it at the right time, there is a 67% chance she might check them out" way.

Like we discussed a while back, The aftermath of Greco-Persian, The conflicts after between the C-States which enabled the rise of Macedon, and thus, Alexander. I figure the entirety will be a two parter, then our next two in a few months will be Alexandrian exploits.

We should try to streamline the best we can.

1. I got small complaints from some that the last one was a bit deeper of water than many could handle

2. Its not particularly interesting.....well it IS, but not for our audience or the comparative events before and after (our last shows, plus the big guy coming up next)

So we should try to streamline and get from point A to point Z19 in 2 1/2 hrs total im hoping. Like 75 minutes per show.

Then in a month or two, we do two episodes (at least) on Alexander, then a show on the Diadochi after that.....

Then. Rome. Which im guessing will be at least 8.

I don't know about more than two episodes on Alexander. It would get very repetitive very quickly - he won here, he won there, he conquered here, he conquered there.

As for Rome... We could go on forever. So many different things to look at.

that's why I figure we end up going at least 6, 8, maybe 10 episodes

Early-Punic War/Hannibal's Legacy/Marius vs Sulla/Pompey vs Caesar/Octavian vs Antony/Julio-Claudians/the High Empire/Third Century Crisis/Tetrarchy-Constantinians/Barbarian invasions and western collapse/Eastern reconquests and Rise of Islam

There's eleven chronological headings covering 1500 years...

I think early/ punic wars would have their own episodes. Id like to cover the conflicts with The Etruscans and The Kingdom of Rome, the mythic origins dating back to Troy, The hills of rome, and Cincinattus.

But yea, you got it roughly laid out the way id like to do it.

Ahem...TOURS!

I also look forward to the rest, as well as the usual guests and podcasts. Glad to see you almost back :)

Don't worry, NSL. Tours will be dealt with at some point.

Just not under the heading of Roman history.

Just making sure it's not forgotten lol Also, this may be a personal preference, but there's no need to limit the shows to 75 minutes. I listen at work, and the ones that I always found to be the best are the longer ones. But that may just be that I have the time to listen to it straight with zero interruptions.

Depends what you count as Roman really.

For instance, there was a Romano-Visigothic governor at Cueta in North Africa who helped the Muslims cross to Spain, while Constantinople had holdings in Italy right up until the 1070s.

That said, there had been little Roman about Gaul for 200 years by Tours.

Well if we want to get HYPER TECHNICAL the Roman Empire technically lasted until about 100 years before Columbus sailed the ocean blue :lmao: (which is goddamned insane, and one of the first things that drew me to an interest in history)

But for our purposes and for the listeners purposes, I would consider it far from a "roman" discussion.

The Roman Empire's still going strong, brah!

But I suppose you eggheads wouldn't read about that in your text books.
