NorCal answers Wrestling (and all other) questions!

Why are so many people willing to accept the myth that the top babyface eating shit from the crowd at every PPV and in every smark town is the "new normal?"

Cena was a fun ride and a glimmer of hope after a down period post-Attitude. But I think people are ready to move on.

Because that has become the new "smart" thing to say. People need to learn how to separate individual circumstances and judge case by case. Either that, or let their balls drop and not fear leaving the baby blanket-knee jerk behind.

Its a totally different scenario this time, since no one is claiming Reigns "cant wrestle".....He just isn't getting over.

I get the sense that being open to an actual emotional reaction is seen as low. God forbid we take taste-makers' rejection of Reigns as a sign. As we all know, and as I read regularly here, crowd reactions have nothing to do with one's potential to make money.

Fucking wannabe sabermetricians or some shit.

Listening to Mark Madden on JR podcast was telling.

Listening to them both rattle on about how IWC people hijack all the shows and ruin them, and everything is all their fault......

What even IS the "IWC" now? Do you mean....the over one million subscribers to the network that pays the WWE bills? Since, you know, the Network is on the fucking internet? Or do you mean.....99% of every paying customer in every seat in the year 2016, since every single one of them is on the internet in one way or another every day? If they do it at every show, and they are paying you for the network...You know, the Network, that is internet based, and is your main business model... are they perhaps just a bit more of your core audience than you think? How long is the "vocal minority" excuse going to be viabe?

It makes me wonder if the great wrestling minds of yesterday are really THAT out of touch with how things are now. You know who is in a similar, if not older age group? Much of the top brass at WWE.

Is that why the network feels to under-realized and haphazardly put together?

Then they turn right around and talk about how Reigns' booking and push has been an absolute and utter brutal failure.

Ok, but I thought everything was all the fault of the mean internet fans hijacking the shows?

I wonder what excuse there was when people shit on Shawn Micheals male stripper gimmick in the mid-late 90s. I don't know, maybe sometimes things just suck and people don't like them?

There is something of an idea in the higher ups that we are not allowed to not like something, especially in the main event. The absolute ruining of Roman Reigns as a character is just the latest example.

It has been around for and been ignored for a good long time, leading eventually to the hijacking of shows because they refused to listen when it was just rumblings.

Now they are an almighty Catch 22 situation - do they listen to the hijackers and change the show, potentially have them do it again when it is not warranted or do they continue to stick their heads in the sand, leading to things potentially getting worse?

They, both Creative and unreasonable fans, really have created a mess.

But it is a mess rather easily rectified - follow the NXT example.

Book a good show and let strong characters develop.

I think a MAJOR sign is Triple H (the heir apparent, and someone much closer to the "internet age") responds to criticisms of the quality of raw with "Well....the show is three hours long...so..."

In other words...yea, it fucking sucks but what do you want me to do?

The same IWC that are downloading & listening to wrestling podcasts & reading dirt sheets & blogs, or watching NJPW on AXIS TV, the same IWC that are the reason those two fucking grumpy old morons still have jobs in the business, & are still somewhat relevant? Yeah, stuff like that is why I stop listening to JR's podcast.

Yea I likened it to when Cornette goes off on everyone for "exposing the business" when he is the industry leader in shoot interviews :lmao:

And has a podcast in which he *gasp* regularly exposes the buisness & is the guy that was doing shit like this weekly ON MONDAY NIGHT RAW!

Here is the email I sent Jim Ross. He is very good about responding to them on his website, so im excited to see what he has to say.

In your latest podcast, Mark Madden and yourself seemed to really want to take "internet fans" to task. I found this disconcerting since without the internet and fans who use it, no one could hear your podcast (that I love) or read Madden's columns....Or contribute millions of dollars to WWE via the WWE Network for that matter. At what point does it become acceptable to assume "internet fans" are no longer just a vocal minority? The WWE's main business model is an internet-based network. After all, the little girl(and grown men) who dresses up like Bayley discovered her the same way the "vocal minority" discovered guys named Kevin Steen and El Generico. I think a time is nearing to stop using "internet fans" as a scapegoat for why some wrestlers and angles never get over.

It seems to be a given in the professional wrestling world that you take your fans for granted.

They will all watch regardless of what you give them. And then it is their fault when they don't like what we give them.

And if it not their fault, its the talent's fault. And if it is not the talent's fault, it's... our fau... it's the fan's fault again.

"Oh its all just internet fans hijacking shows!"

Huh, once upon a time, vocal feedback regarding wrestlers and angles was known as being over or not being over....

"No its just internet fans!!!

Now let me tell you about how great the WWE Networks numbers are!!"

"....but isn't that on the internet? Wouldn't it mostly be the same people?"

"Quiet, you"

Would a three-hour Raw work better, if only 2 hours made it to TV, and that first hour was Network-exclusive, and utilized some of the lesser built talent and storylines?

It would also work better if they got Stone Cold and Mankind out of retirement, and brought the Rock back full time from movies.

And that's just about as realistic.

USA's parent company pays them for three hours, so until the contract is up, three hours is what they will give.

I think the people who are eagerly anticipating HHH taking charge are in for at least some disappointment. The business is going to have to take a major shift to appeal more to not just the "internet fans" but the more adult fan base in general. Plus, things like that take a great deal of time. It's not just going to be a 180 overnight. Talk about a way to alienate the majority of your fans. Plus, where's the guarantee he's taking over?
