I was watching lost last night got to admit im confused on why there going to make the next season the last one ..anyone know why?
anyway its a bummer to lose such a great show ..i really like the mystery in it with all the story lines in the show

The reason next season will be the last is because that was always the plan for the creators of Lost. It's not going to be cancelled or anything like that, the creators just don't want the show to drag on and become stale. Everything that's happened in the last few seasons has all been planned to build up to the ending of next season.

So just sit back and enjoy the masterful storytelling while ya still can.

I read there was 7 seasons planned in total, but the writers strike messed it up.

This is what I read is happening as season 6 will be the final one:

"On May 7, 2007, ABC Entertainment President Stephen McPherson announced that Lost will end during the 2009–2010 season with a "highly anticipated and shocking finale."[63] "We felt that this was the only way to give Lost a proper creative conclusion," McPherson said.[63] Beginning with the 2007–2008 television season, the final 48 episodes would have been aired as three seasons with 16 episodes each, with Lost concluding in its sixth season. Due to the writers' strike, the fourth season featured 14 episodes, and Seasons 5 and 6 will have 17 episodes each.[11]

Executive producers Lindelof and Cuse stated that they "always envisioned Lost as a show with a beginning, middle, and end," and that by announcing when the show would end that viewers would "have the security of knowing that the story will play out as we've intended."[63] Lindelof and Cuse stated that securing the 2010 series-end date "was immensely liberating" and helped the series rediscover its focus.[64] Lindelof noted, "We're no longer stalling."[64] Matthew Fox stated that he is the only cast member who knows the ending of the show.[65]"

LOST is my favorite show on TV. Although I will admit that I had grown wearisome from time to time about what the hell was going on. I figured that I had invested so much time in watching this show that I cant just abruptly stop. Season Three I wanted to just shoot myself because it brought up more questions than answers. Im looking forward to the final season and hoping that it will be a fitting conclusion.

Lost, like Xfear said, has been planning to end after the 6th season for a while. It has been moving like a locomotive, unfortunately we will now have to wait seven months to get to see another episode of the show. After the nuclear explosion, something big must happen. We will get 17 more episodes to wrap it all up. We will learn about the smoke monster, the comparisons between the elements of good and evil, yin and yang, whichever you want. We will learn how the statue crumbled, and why the Dharma houses survived the nuke. We will learn about Jacob, dead Locke and the man with the black shirt.
