No iMPACT! on September 9th; Online show to run instead

It's Damn Real!

The undisputed, undefeated TNA &
A report from the Wrestling Observer is noting that the September 9th edition of iMPACT! will be pre-empted by SpikeTV (with no reason cited), and that the network does not intend to air it at a different time (at this point).

No Surrender, for those of you who aren't aware, is this Sunday, the 5th, which means the very next episode of iMPACT! may not air following a PPV — a huge failure if it does indeed happen IMO.

For what it's worth, TNA does have tapings scheduled for September 6, 7 and 8th in Orlando.

Thoughts about all of this? Concerns?

It's the night of the opening game of the NFL season which is on network TV. To say that game is going to draw huge numbers is an understatement, especially considering many of them would be the same audience TNA would be after. In the best days of WWF, they were still losing by a good margin to Monday Night Football. This is smart by TNA to not air it then, but to not air it at all is stupid. Put it on Wednesday or something, but have it on, especially given that it's the follow up to a PPV. Smart thinking, bad execution. Ladies and Gentlemen it's TNA in a nutshell.

To have no followup on the No Surrender ppv is absolutely stupid. It bit TNA in the ass when they didn't air a followup Impact after last year's Final Resolution ppv. That had severe consequences such as the burial of Christopher Daniels who had been in the main event scene at the time. It shows that missing even one week can derail the momentum of wrestlers and storylines. Big mistake not to air a followup Impact IMO.

It's kinda obvious that they need to push for another slot. Maybe Monday? :p Something else o n my mind is ReAction. Will it be pre-empted too? This is a pretty bad time as its the show that kicks off the stories heading into Bound For Glory. Another slot needs to be found. But what exactly is it being pre-empted for? I don't recall Spike TV airing any sporting event. Is it some sort of award show? Raw used to get pre-empted for that Dog show and would instead air on Thursday. Whats the cause here?

Plus I asked for that day off. It would suck if the reason I asked for it gets a date change or doesn't even air.

Theres no confirmation that iMPACT wont be shown during the week. Hold off on the TNA is stupid for not airing iMPACT guys, please.

I guess its just a wait and see now.

I understand why they aren't airing the show Thursday, but they have to come up with a backup plan. Having a week and half off from television after the PPV isn't a good idea. TNA is planning on having tapings for the Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday following No Surrender I believe. I don't see why they can't have a special showing on Impact on Tuesday or Wednesday. We will have to wait and see if any announcements will be made online or on Impact this week to determine if the show will air next week. I understand why it wouldn't because of football, but TNA can't afford to not air any program on Spike for almost 2 weeks.

In my opinion I think TNA should switch to Wednesdays, because after week 10 I believe the NFL has Thursday night games weekly on NFL Network. Most of the TNA viewers are probably male 18 and up so the probably care about Football more then TNA. I know Raw goes up against Monday Night Football on Mondays but the ratings in WWE are way higher then TNA which we all know.

The show that will be in it's slot will be their show GANGLAND currently while that could change at a moments notice. Plus, it's defintely a momentum killer but the only trying to protest the ratings not their fans.

Why do so many of you automatically believe what the dirt sheets write? TNA has not said anything yet, let's you know, wait and see?

You gotta have Impact going every single week, especially the week after a PPV. It doesn't matter if it's live or not, a wrestling show has to continue on. Nobody watches Superstars either, but I haven't heard any news about them removing the show that day.

I like KB's idea of putting that specific Impact on a different day like Wednesday. But I would also suggest putting Impact on tape delay. Why not have Impact show later after the football game? I remember this one time I was watching a Mariners game and it took up an hour of SD! and they just played it from the spot where it left off and also replayed it at midnight so you could watch the whole thing. It wouldn't be so bad if Impact was shown later in the night. I mean football can't take up that much of the night can it?

As long as they have tapings, things could very well change..it's not good though, because now there is no advertisement...and say it does air last minute say maybe late night, people might miss it...Since its tapings, why not put it on at night? sometimes here in the UK we get Raw on thursdays at different times..9pm, 10pm, 10.30, 11pm, heck even 11.30?..I would still wait to watch it though...But i'm going off topic i believe..

If there is no show..then TNA have reuined their chances of making iMPACT the longest weekly episodic show in history! lol...

I am in Canada and I don't give a damn about the NFL, I care about TNA it's the only show I really enjoy every week lately as I can't stand the WWE if it's not Del Rio or Punk. So i am very dissapointed if they don't show Impact at all because the NFL is starting, what about the people who don't care about football what will they put in it's place anyway? Are they just not putting TNA because they don't want a .4 rating for TNA? I don't get why they wouldn't, people could dvr it at least.

I just don't get the logic behind that move and I hope we will get it another day.

Not wanting to air it against the season opener in itself is probably a smart move since that will destroy everything in its path ratings wise. Not airing it at all makes no sense. Why can't they just move it? What in Spike TV's programming is so important that they can't just move impact? Is it interfering with an episode of 1000 Ways to Die or Manswers? Show it Friday or Saturday. Heck show it Wednesday. There is pretty much nothing to compete against on Wednesdays. I hope something changes and they decide to air it. Skipping a week is a bad idea IMO. But that could also simply be because I don't want to go a week without TNA.

They should have a "special" monday night show to try and get some day after hype from the PPV and take a little bit away from Raw. Atleast air it at some point of that week, even Saturday.

First of all, I agree with those who say that perhaps people are jumping the gun to push the panic button here. Just because they are choosing to not air iMPACT at its regular day and time is not really that big of a deal. They are probably just going to show it an alternate time and they just haven't revealed when yet. It's nothing new for TNA to be slow to make announcements. We didn't even know the card of matches for Hardcore Justice right up until broadcast time, and other times, PPV cards have not been announced until the last minute. Look for an announcement the week of the pre-empted show. I'm sure at the last minute, they'll announce the show will be aired on Wednesday, or Friday, or whatever. I mean what else could it be, TNA failing to use logic and common sense to promote their product to the utter dismay of the TNA faithful? Shock and awe.

If in fact they are not following up on the PPV with an episode of iMPACT the very next week, that would be extremely peculiar. Perhaps they are not concerned about following up on the momentum of the PPV because they have looked at the card, determined it is lacklustre at best, and there would really be no momentum from it to follow up on. Maybe they are giving the wrestling fans a week to forget about the No Surrender PPV, hoping that people will have forgotten by the following week and may tune back in, something they may not do on 09/09.

Now before people get annoyed here, I am partially joking. But in all seriousness, for a show pulling in consistently low ratings from 0.9-1.2 over the last several months, missing one episode of iMPACT, if that's even the case, is not the end of the world. I'm sure the TNA fans can wait one more week to resume attempting to follow the next episode of iMPACT.

I wonder if it could be part of a storyline. Have some utter chaos at the end of the PPV and sell it further by skipping a normal showing? If it is simply a schedule thing I imagine they will simply pick another day or another option and it will not be a big deal.

Well, that seems pretty stupid. Sure, it's the football game's going to take away some ratings, but who cares? I'm sure TNA will still get a .6 or .7, something around there. Thtat's not a really big deal, now is it?

I understand the reasoning, but I just don't see the point. No reason for people to be flipping out about this though, not actually that big of a deal. TNA's done this before. Last Christmas, I belive.

I think it's stupid to judge all of this until we get an official report on what's happening. TNA is not dumb enough to keep a very crucial week of programming completely wiped off TV. What they need to do is advertise hard for a special date, like Wednesday or Saturday. That way they can still air it and continue their storylines. For what it's worth, I'd bank on it Saturday night since that's TNA's old night and it could actually increase ratings if played out right. If TNA decides to cut it completely, whoever made the decision needs to be decapitated because it's obvious they don't use their brain in the first place.

I think it is really silly on Spike TV's part not to air Impact at all next week especially after having a PPV. TNA needs follow up after No Surrender and needs all the time they can get to start hyping Bound For Glory.

I hope they will air Impact on Friday or even Saturday night if it's not shown on Thursday.

Update: A report from PWI is noting that the September 9th iMPACT! will indeed not air, and instead will be preempted for an airing of "Gangland", however, TNA will be holding a special Bound For Glory ONLINE SHOW on September 9th, instead.

It's also being reported that Dixie Carter, President of TNA, will be answering questions on the online show.

While I disagree entirely with the idea of missing a week of iMPACT! at all, I am glad that they will be airing something as a follow-up, even if it is an online-only program.

I want to point out something really stupid about all of this, which is something you should look at if you recorded thursdays impact! First off they never mentioned the pre-emption of Impact for Thursday, but also they also advertised RVD speaking about what happened with Abyss...So now you have the peoples attention to tune in to....Gangland yup that makes a hell of a lot of sense...

It's smart not to air iMPACT on that Thursday because basically everyone in that demographic that TNA seeks after will be watching the Vikings/Saints game. But to not air it at all? That's stupid. Why can't they air it on Tuesday, Wednesday, or even Friday?

The replacement is a BFG kick-off show. Okay, but it isn't even on TV. They can't even air the BFG kick-off show on TV? Damn. TNA really fucked up with this one. There's going to be a PPV, then we wait 2 weeks for the fall-out and BFG kick-off? That's stupid.

Just a reminder to everyone, iMPACT! will NOT air tonight.

In it's place TNA will be running an official Bound For Glory "Kickoff Show" online tonight.
