Night of Champions - No Disqualification - Triple H vs. CM Punk

CM Punk’s fervent quest for answers will lead him to an intense confrontation with WWE’s Chief Operating Officer at Night of Champions, where The Straight Edge Superstar battles 13-time World Champion Triple H.

On an explosive WWE Raw SuperShow, Triple H admitted that he wouldn’t be satisfied by simply pinning Punk’s shoulders to the mat for a three-count. Therefore, using his power as a WWE executive, The Game made the contest a No Disqualification Match. The Second City Savior agreed to that high-risk stipulation, under the condition that The Game must resign as WWE COO if he loses.

Competing in the ring for the first time since his cataclysmic encounter with The Undertaker at WrestleMania XXVII in April, The King of Kings would have at one time admired Punk’s anti-authority attitude. However, trading in his D-Generation X gear for a pressed suit and tie, the outlaw-turned-executive intends to silence the self-proclaimed “voice of the voiceless” after months of mouthing off. (WATCH)

Even though Punk’s Undisputed WWE Championship victory at The Biggest Event of the Summer was the result of some questionable officiating by The King of Kings himself, The Second City Savior nevertheless basked in the adulation of his screaming fans at the STAPLES Center after defeating fellow WWE Champion John Cena to become the sole bearer of the illustrious prize. Yet, the self-proclaimed “voice of the voiceless” was soon viciously silenced by The Game’s longtime friend Kevin Nash, who charged the ring and laid out Punk with his iconic Jackknife Powerbomb, a maneuver that has destroyed many a foe during the 7-foot former WWE Champion’s storied in-ring career.

Struggling to recover following “Big Sexy’s” unexpected and unprovoked assault, Punk was defenseless as Money in the Bank winner Alberto Del Rio cashed in his WWE Championship opportunity to capture the title. The following night on Raw, the WWE COO affirmed that he had no idea why his longtime friend Nash chose to attack Punk moments after his Undisputed WWE Championship Match. Nash, however, told a different tale altogether, saying that the order to “stick” the winner of that momentous bout came via text message from The Game’s cell phone – and presumably from The Cerebral Assassin himself.

Punk was dissatisfied with the Kliq members’ conflicting stories, and continued to disrespect both men despite their many accolades. Fed up with the silver-tongued Superstar’s verbal jabs, Nash – now officially signed to a WWE contract – challenged Punk to a match on the Aug. 29 edition of Raw. Triple H made that match official for Night of Champions, but The Game later dropped a massive bombshell on Nash, Punk and the entire WWE Universe: He would face Punk himself at the prestigious pay-per-view event. Nash, on the other hand, would ultimately be fired from his WWE contract after being implicated by The Game as the sole person responsible for the SummerSlam hysteria.

Can CM Punk overcome The King of Kings and force him to resign? Or will Triple H end Punk’s inquisitive campaign with a Pedigree?

didnt see this comming...i love that twist...this is going to be an awesome match. what do you guys think? did any predict this might happen? i honestly thought it would be nash vs. punk...got blindsided by this, but this is a great move by wwe, i miss seeing HHH wrestle, and this should boost up ratings pretty drastically in my opinion...good job wwe

The only reason i kind of predicted this was because i read a spoiler a while back about the WWEs future plans and shit and it had CM Punk and HHH going at it.

I really think its unlikely that Punk wins the match. Kind of a you cant upstage the boss, he's in charge. Plus not to mention the unbelievable amount of nepotism towards HHH that has occurred the last 6 years.

On the other hand, though, it could end up like a Austin/McMahon thing where Punk runs amuck all over the WWE.

Unfortunately i was not surprised by this due to the fact i read a spoiler a few months ago, but had i not this would have been a pretty big change. My only question now is what happens to Kevin Nash?

ugh.

way too early.

If they play this wrong, all of this will have been for nothing.

This match should not have been made at least until after Night of Champions...

nash is going to interfere in the match i bet so HHH gets the win without people thinking "of course he won hes the boss" but i guarentee Nash will play a part in the match...possibly it might become a triple threat match since HHH and nash are having some "problems"

This is a classic case of WWE not letting an angle develop. HHH-Punk should be a Survivor Series, if not Wrestlemania match. Now it's at a filler PPV? I think they wanted to save it for a big PPV but panicked when Nash didn't go over on the Raw after SummerSlam. It's cool we're getting the match, but it's clear that they're making up plans as they go.

Great match, can't wait to see Triple H in the ring again. I'm sure that Nash will intervene in this match or the whole Kliq will show up something along those lines but no matter what happens, it will be a great Main Event.

They should have saved this match for Wrestlemania. Let's face it Austin's chances at facing Punk at 'Mania are slim. And they were doing great building up the rivalry between Punk and Triple H. They should have made it more personal and saved it for Wrestlemania with a long ass build up. And if Austin gets cleared to wrestle Punk then they can just book HHH vs Punk for the Rumble or Elimination Chamber. Personally I'm not a big fan of this decision.

I will admit it was a nice twist that I didnt see coming yet but come on WWE dont rush this. I thought everything pointed towards this match being at Survivor Series, not a B rated PPV. Now if the reason they did it was because they have no confidence Nash can go for 10 to 15 minutes then I can understand this. However, I believe HHH has to be the heel in this match for it to make Punk more crediable and unless HHH turns heel in the next two weeks then it will be face vs face.

I do like the unpreditability but I was assuming at the next PPV or maybe Hell in a Cell that Hunter would screw Punk and beat him senseless with the sledgehammer making him a heel and leading to a match at SS. I agree with the poster above I dont believe Punk wins here, he should but he wont. If HHH wins clean I will be pissed. The only way I can see this working now is Nash costing Punk the match, that way he doesn't look week losing. This will allow the fued to continue wih Punk hopefully winning at Surivor Series.

Completely agree with you. While Nash is a big name a much bigger match would of been Punk vs HHH (very similar to Austin vs Mcmahon - although the comparison has been done to death) I think both matches should have happened, however, I think that HHH and Punk happening first makes it all the more underwhelming... I think / HOPE this angle will continue tomorrow.

And I want HHH to simply squash this big-mouth whining idiot. Its not realistic anymore, and its not enjoyable anymore. I guess this is how its gonna play out

HHH having a back and forth match, Nash will come to interfere, resulting in Punk loosing the match. HHH will continue to ask Nash to leave the ring, and Punk will continue whining that HHH and Nash are working together.

I guess WWE want Punk to keep whining all the way to Wrestle-Mania, somehow leading up to Punk vs HHH, with HHH revealing later that he was behind everything, or there are more people behind this.

Something in me wants HHH to just shut Punk up. How much more can they squeeze out of this angle??

See, I don't know. The more I think about it, the more I wonder.

Of course it's "early," but we're forgetting about John Laurinaitis here. I think he plays a HUGE factor in all of this and I think that there's much more to this story of "talking to the board" than WWE is letting on just yet.

Perhaps Nash and John Laurinaitis are working together along with either Stephanie or Vince for something much bigger. A new "Corporation" of sorts with an nWo twist. It would honestly make sense. ESPECIALLY on the fact that they all know personality wise, Triple H wouldn't go along with it unless it was his idea and he was leading the pack. Let's be honest, Hunter is not a follower and hasn't been for over a decade..

I think we're jumping the gun and we might just end up being pleasantly surprised.

I see this more of Nash screwing Triple H now at Night of Champions.

I for one think this was the right call, because there was no way they could have kept people entertained for another 2 months. I mean i already could see this feud losing steam because they pretty much did the same promo from last week tonight just added 2 mins of punk fake puking (which by the way was hilarious). At the same time people this is just the beginning for these two and we will multiple big level matches including most likely a hell in a cell match. It makes perfect sense for HHH to step in now after being called out by Nash, but at the same time the constant questioning of his manhood by Punk. I will say i dont see either man winning clean at night of champions though, Nash or somebody will interfere on HHH behalf and I would bet we see HHH snap on Punk afterwards.

Well I kinda like the twist for Night Of Champions with HHH vs CM Punk. Then maybe Punk vs Nash at HIAC or Vengeance. After that Team HHH vs Team CM Punk at Survivor Series which leads to the big payoff at Wrestlemania 28.

We still don't know where Johnny Ace figures in all of this and we could see the full-time Return of Stephanie. So lets see what happens before we jump the gun.

Nash turning on HHH? i cant see this, but it is a good theory...

but the Corporation comming back does sound logical now that i think about it. I know Vince probably went behind the scenes because Linda is going for senate...but having a reformed corperation does sound like the way it might go with HHH leading Johnny, Nash, and someone else who may come into the picture.

ok this is way to soon. Why not have the nash vs punk match have triple h come out and interfer and cost punk the match or just after the match just pedigree punk.I can see nash interfer with this match but I can see him messing up and costing HHH the match or somehow with a huge twist have nash come out and end up being with punk like a bodyguard type role.Yeah I know it would not make no sense unless punk is just like I just wanted to shake up the WWE or something to that nature.I just really wish this didnt happen at NOC.I am just guessing they dont have confidence in the card for the Buyrate and figure HHH vs Punk will raise them.

it can't be in survivor series for heaven's sake.. remember the rock will be the main attraction at survivor series.. like what happened at wrestlemania 27..

i am pretty sure CM Punk will have something good at wrestlemania 28.. and remember WM 28's main attraction is the rock vs. john cena..

people seem to forget that this is not going to be the blow off end of a feud match. They have not rushed anything and have simply opened up more doors with where this angle could go. It wont be the last time these 2 meet and it is just going to be used to build to something much bigger. Maybe a HHH heel turn? maybe nash screws HHH? HBK might even feature! Remember his promo with punk a while back? there is alot of ways this could go and it will be a bigger draw than nash vs punk so im happy.

I do however feel like this was not the original plan. I dont think nash is hurt or anything but maybe the E feel he isnt capable of taking part in a PPV match at this stage in his career and with his broken down knees?

It was a great move by WWE as it surprised the fans.I personally see triple h turning heel.Atleast thats what i hope

thats how i felt as well, i dont think Nash would be able to put on a good length match, it would have to be a quick match due to his knee conditions. this is why i think HHH is now against Punk...Nash wouldnt be able to go the distance for a PPV main event match.

Why do I have a feeling this is just gonna end up with HHH and Punk getting together and forming an alliance.

The reason I think this is simple.

At MITB, Punk won the title, the NEXT night Vince is relieved of his duties and HHH becomes the new COO (this is the first part of the alliance. HHH got all the leverage he needed to get Vince out because he knew his ego would get the better of him. HHH is the one who instigated the board to pull the plug on McMahon).

At Summerslam he obviously screwed Cena out of the title only for Nash to come out and screw Punk which in turn let Del Rio win the title. HHH's face told the whole story he didn't expect that to happen. The next night you hear Nash has a text from HHH's phone but it supposedly wasn't HHH. The next week Johnny Ace tells HHH that Nash has been in an accident only for Nash to screw Punk again.

This tells me that Steph is the one who texted, pulling the strings for her dad and they also have Johnny Ace in their back pocket (everyone knows Johnny Ace has been kissing Vinces ass for years).

This week HHH switches the match for him to face Punk instead of Nash, sounds to me like HHH is protecting him from Nash.

My guess is HHH and Punk are in cahoots, everything before MITB was perpetrated in advance by them to get Vince out and HHH in, the whole Punk leaving with the title was a plan by both men because as soon as Vince was out CM Punk was signed immediately afterwards. Steph most likely found out and used Nash as a hired gun to keep the title off of Punk.

Maybe this will all lead to a power struggle angle with HHH and Punk vs. Vince and Nash with a HHH vs. Vince match at WM for control over the WWE. Anyways that's what I'm leaning towards. I know it looks like its just HHH screwing with Punk but I don't see it going that way because that's what Punk said the whole time, why would they tell the fans the storyline in advance (unless things aren't what they seem).

I have to say I'm excited for this match, but I'm also very curious if the WWE's pay per views as of late are going to actually hurt them come Mania time as far as the infamous buyrates are concerned. WWE has been putting on some good shows, MITB and now NOC have pretty big matches with CM Punk which I am sure will get a lot of viewer, but given prices of ppvs, I wonder if by time Mania comes around people are going to skip after having spent so much already.

Either way, this is going to be a good feud, though it feels rushed. I felt like Punk HHH should headline something bigger, but we'll see, WWE has kept me on my toes as of late and I love it, so I'm on board with this.

should have been held off this Survivor Series or at the earliest Vengeance or Hell in the Cell. have Punk feud with Nash til then and THEN have Triple H attack Punk after a match and set it up for Survivor Series because now I bet we'll see Punk vs Triple H until Survivor Series and all you IWC wanna be "experts" are going to bitch about it getting stale yadda yadda yadda. sit back and enjoy the ride. i will.
