Nigel McGuinness and NXT

Mr. TM

Throwing a tantrum
We now know what was probably in the line for Nigel McGuiness. I think that if he were to have instead signed with the WWE, we would get to see him every Tuesday night on NXT. I assume he would also have been partnered up with Chris Jericho instead of Wade Barrett, with the first set of NXT matches against Daniel Bryan.

But instead, he went over to TNA, where the audience is relatively the same, and he is getting chances to wrestler with Kurt Angle.

So did he make the right path? Should Nigel McGuinness have signed with WWE and been apart of this show? I tell you what, if he did, I assume the show would have been built around him and Bryan Danielson, and I felt hat would have been a tremendous honour, getting an entire WWE show built around you, instead of being lost in the mix on TNA. So I think he should have still come to the WWE, become Gus Nigel, and even had a shot of winning the entire thing.

I've actually wondered a little about this myself. To look back over things, if NXT had been around 5 months ago and this question was asked, I'd have probably said McGuinness made the right choice by going to TNA. McGuinness was pushed right away into a high profile feud with Kurt Angle resulting in a very good storyline and some of the best wrestling matches of 2009. Even though McGuinness ultimately lost the feud, his stock was extremely high and, based on how things were looking, I think a lot of people actually expected him to be firmly entrenched within the TNA World Heavyweight Championship scene.

However, McGuinness' push seems to have slowed down quite a bit since Hulk Hogan's arrival in TNA. As of right now, McGuinness seems to have become lost in the mix and seems to be reduced to the "just one of the boys" level. He goes from wrestling 20 minute clinics with Kurt Angle a few months ago to jobbing to Abyss in a minute and a half last Thursday on iMPACT! That's not a good sign.

To ask the question now, I think McGuiness may have been better off in the long run going to the WWE and become part of NXT. Like Danielson, McGuinness has been in wrestling for a long time, is well known on the independent circuit but the majority of wrestling fans didn't have a clue who he would have been. Having an entire show built around you, even though hardly any of the WWE viewers are familiar with you, and having said show be able to outdraw TNA is an interesting concept. McGuinness' presence would have only improved NXT and, quite honestly, I think it's more interesting than what they've got him doing in TNA at this time.

I think that McGuinness made the right decision. He got put in a great feud right away and is already looking like TNA World Championship material. If he had been placed in NXT he would be making a much slower climb because first he'd have to win NXT, then make it past the midcard on Raw/Smackdown, break into the main event, THEN win a world title. In the time it takes the winner of NXT to do all that, McGuinness will have likely had enough time for 2 or even 3 TNA World Championship reigns. He made the right choice and great things will happen to him in TNA.

I personally think Nigel (desmond wolfe) would have gone straight to one of the brands, wether they would have used him properly though that's another story. I'm embarrassed to admit that much like michael cole i've never seen any of these, I've HEARD plenty about bryan danielson and quite frankly I'm still waiting to be blown away by him. Desmond has definitely proved (although in a much smaller venue) that he belongs with the big boys.

I think he did make the right career choice by picking TNA over WWE. If he did sign with the WWE I have no doubt whatsoever that he would have been sent to NXT and thrown into a Feud with Daniel Bryan. But now Bryan is Feuding with the Miz.

In TNA Desmond has feuded with quite possibly one of the best Wrestlers today, Kurt Angle. I think he surpassed all of our expectations in this feud. Not only winning matches but Cutting top Notch Promos.

Side Note: 100th Post. I had to do it in one of Your Threads TM :)

Nigel made the right choice going to TNA, he had one the best matches i have seen against Angle, he will be TNA world champion at some point, if he would have gone to WWE he would been put on NXT and fueded with Daniel Bryan, yeah they would have prob been brillaint matches because they would have prob got good chemistry, but he would have been held back, where as in TNA he is used as one of the top dogs

I think Nigel going to TNA was most definitely the better career move he could've made.
Somehow I have my doubts Nigel would've been on NXT, I think as someone said earlier, he would've gone straight to one of the brands, as Bryan was offered, all thou he could've of course chosen the Bryan way, and therefore ending up on NXT.
But TNA offered him a quick launch into a great feud, something WWE most likely would not have with Nigel, as that spot looked somewhat preserved for Bryan himself.
On a final note, I think people forgot the fact that Nigel actually tried to get into WWE, but failed the screening audition, and was therefore dumped by WWE.

Desmond Wolfe is a beast Im glad he didnt go to WWE.His talent would have been wasted. The guy can wrestle his ass off & cut a good promo. In the WWE he would not get the chances hes getting at TNA.One day he will be world champ, that wont happen in the WWE.He made the right choice in going to TNA.
