NFL Football LD, 2013/14 Season

This Dallas defense is starting to rival the Saints D from last year as being historically bad. This is the second time in three weeks they have given up over 600 total yards of offense. They've had some big injuries but damn.

Fucking Titans. Seriously. And Locker is hurt again? Which means potentially more Fitzpatrick? Fuck that.

Hopefully Locker is back for the Thursday game and the Titans get back on track.

Locker is likely out for the season so he's not playing Thursday.

Well so much for that. Fitzpatrick is a bum and Rusty Smith has very little NFL experience. I hope they go out and sign someone.

Fitzpatrick played great today and is easily your best bet over some free agent they could grab off the street. You really think a guy like Vince Young or Matt Leinart would be an upgrade?

The only thing Fitzpatrick has over Locker is his average yards per pass is a little higher.

They've both thrown 4 interceptions but Locker has played 3 more games than Fitzpatrick and has thrown almost twice as many touchdowns.

Fitzpatrick has 5 fumbles in 4 games compared to 3 by Locker in 7.

Fitzpatrick's QB rating is 76.0 compared to Locker's 86.7

Although not a huge difference Locker is completing 60% of his passes compared to Fitzpatrick's 56%

Locker averages about a yard more a carry on the run which again isn't a huge difference.

So Locker's stats may not be largely better than Fitzpatrick but it's still enough to make a difference.

And yes I would take Russell over Fitzpatrick. That's how much I don't like Fitzpatrick.

I'm sure there's more to it but when Manning comes frantically toward his center and points and yells I can only imagine his center thinking, "No shit, I'll block the guy clearly in front of me if he comes this way."

That was the craziest set of early Sunday games I've ever seen in the NFL.

And people say cold weather football sucks.

Get ready for free agency Cutler, because McCown is looking like the goods.

Lol. The Bears may not resign Cutler but it won't be because they want McCown as their guy. He is one of the better backups in the league and is playing extremely well right now, but he's still a 34 year old with a career qb rating of 75.8.

The offense looked good but that defense is a nightmare. Yet somehow, we're only a game out of the division lead.

A late bloomer who's finally getting some good coaching, perhaps.

If the Bears don't re-sign Jay, then that's a pretty decent endorsement of Josh as their guy. He doesn't have to be their long-term solution, but if they want to win games "right now" and Jay isn't there, McCown can clearly get it done. That QB rating is getting a nice shot in the arm.

They don't have anything better on the horizon- nothing in free agency (Jay will be the best QB available this offseason) and you never know how a draft pick will work out. So, they let Jay walk, start McCown for a year or two, and develop a draft pick QB the old-fashioned way. Plus Forte, Marshall, and Jeffrey have been building a rapport with McCown over the last few weeks-- anybody coming in won't have that.

I'm not saying he's going to take them all the way or anything, but the guy is getting it done consistently. Unless he comes unraveled over the next 3 weeks, I'm fairly sure he'll be their next year if Cutler isn't brought back.

Just to piggyback on my last post, doing some late reading I found an interesting tidbit about Marc Trestman that I was unaware of until just a little while ago:

NFL.com said:
Rich Gannon was a 36-year-old journeyman quarterback without a single season over 60.0 percent on completions when Marc Trestman entered his life in 2001. Less than two years later, Gannon won the NFL Most Valuable Player award with a career year and a completion percentage of 67.6.

I had heard about Trestman being a QB guru of sorts, but I either hadn't heard or just didn't catch that specific part of his history. I'm neither a Bears fan nor do I care what they do with their roster, but I'm just calling this one like I see it. McCown has looked great, and, with my knowledge of Trestman's work bolstered a bit, I honestly think Josh has got a future as the Bears starter should they pursue that arrangement.

That's why they would let Cutler go. McCown's performance plus his price tag after this season won't be nearly as high as Cutler's, who will probably be headed to the Browns or Jets. The Bears can draft (or trade for) a young QB and groom him while McCown takes the snaps.
