New Program Idea!!... Well technically "old" program idea!

So i was looking up some Macho Man promos now that hes gone... and i stumbled upon this video...

Now why don't they do this storyline now! with some slight twists! Its an amazing idea, have a young guy be friends with a mani-eventer and when said guy wins the WWE Championship! there could be a problem in their friendship and jealousy could level up on the top guy and lead to a heel turn or it could be a delusion of the young guy and have him turn heel and... well it could lead up to what you saw in the vid! and its great for the PG audience!! They can understand it and relate to it! and the older fans can also get behind a good up and personal feud!! if done correctly it would make for an awesome and interesting program that could cement said young star into the Main-event!

the questions:
1. Could this program work today?

2. If so with what modifications?

3. Which two "superstars" could work in this program? (remember to try and make it a rising star or future star with an already settled main-eventer)


In my opinion it could work like this: Now that Zack Ryder is broskis with Cena, push Ryder and have them win the WWE Championship eventually! Have Ryder team with Cena in matches and have Cena start bottling jealousy towards Ryder for holding the tittle, then one night have Cena snap and turn heel! Have a program and after a few matches between the two have Ryder beat Cena and have Cena apologize and said that it was stupid and blah blah blah shake hands, hug, idk etc. etc.... pretty much what HBK did after the Summerslam match with Hogan to turn face again! This would make Ryder a huge star and a permanent main-eventer and also WWE would only turn Cena heel for a short period of time (3 months max) and turn him back so they can still sell all their merc!

so yeah thats the thought!

I for see you getting alot of negativity for this thread, but I will defend it by saying i would love to see that kind of program today.

With whom you ask? Quite easy you've already said it yourself... Ryder and Cena.

Both could make it work. Except I would have Ryder turn on Cena by getting paranoid that Cena is jealous of his newfound success, even though Cena guided him to his spot. Could make for a great program.

As weird as it is to admit, I think you have a really good idea. That's not the weird thing, though. What I'm having a difficult time admitting is, is the idea of Ryder winning the strap. I mean, as far as faces on Raw he could build, the only people that they have it would work best for are Chris Masters, Kofi, and Zack Ryder. Now: Chris Masters hasn't shown enough mic skill to carry his weight in this situation, the ship has sailed for Kofi, and that leaves us with Ryder as the best choice. Ryder winning the WWE Championship? I'd have to see it to warm up to it. Ryder getting a rub off of Cena? I think it would definitely turn him into a more main stream star. I mean, Cena can't build heels, but maybe he could build a face.

On Smackdown, you have other options like Daniel Bryan or Ezekiel Jackson (and he's a stretch,), but I still think Ryder would be able to pull this off.

I remember when that segment happened. I was a big Randy Savage fan, as he and Piper were my all-time favorites even then, but I was still mad that Savage turned. I was really enjoying the pop that the Mega Powers were getting, and I wanted Savage to turn it around and be nice to Elizabeth, again.

Granted, I was just a kid, but the majority of WWE fans are kids and they would warm up to Ryder quick. Honestly, I think your idea is pretty good.

you just stumbled upon this clip, first off, i hate you, you just made me feel hella old. This clip is where I can pinpoint the moment i was hooked and i became a wrestling fan for life. On to your questions though... I think it could work today, I'm not sure it'll come off as smooth since so many guys today sound so scripted, BUT if they can get past it I could see it working. I think it would have been tailor made for an E&C reunion but alas, that won't happen because of Edge retiring. I do not see it with Ryder and Cena just because I don't EVER see Ryder becoming the 2nd biggest star in the company like Macho was to Hulk. The guy has some funny promos on youtube sure, but come on now, you guys are putting him on a pedestal that he hasn't done anything to deserve. You may as well have the story with michael cole and cena since they are backstage buddies too... This type of program would have to be done w/ guys like Cena/Orton or Miz/Cena or something, two TOP guys of the company to really get it over, otherwise it just becomes another mid card story that'll be forgotten. I think Orton Cena would work and you can have it with the Nexus or something beat the living crap out of orton, have Cena come out to save him, have the two form an alliance and eventually have them fight over a title again and set up a huge match between the two with Orton the heel and Cena still a face. Have these two already done this? yea, more or less, but if done properly and more importantly over time it could still work and help set up a huge WM match between the two that will ultimately suck but will sell a shit load of tickets and ppvs haha

I think the E's most recent chance to do that would've been with the Miz and Alex Riley but they missed that chance because Riley getting jealous at this point would have to be forced.

As for Ryder Cena, I think it would fail for the same reason. Why would Ryder be jealous when Cena has already been champ so many times and he's already openly mouthed his support of him.

It'd need two completely new people in the title picture. Maybe in a years time if Ryder is closer to the title scene then Hawkins could play the role of jealous buddy. Personally don't see it though.

I think two guys that this could work with would be the two masked luchadores, Mysterio and Sin Cara.

Have Rey take Cara under his wing, make him his protege' if you will, and then after a couple of months Rey gets jealous of Cara's popularity and turns on him. Let them put on one hell of a 'mania match with Cara going over, and have them reconcile after the match. This could also be a great way for Rey to retire.

Jealousy among friends is one of the oldest storylines in wrestling history. Hogan vs. Savage is a classic one, largely because Savage was so paranoid in real life anyway. Another good one was Bret Hart vs. Owen Hart. Owen made his career as Bret's jealous little brother and turning on him. Larry Zbyszko made an early splash in his career as Bruno Sammartino's protege, then made his career by turning on him. On the other side, Randy Orton's program with HHH in 2004 (Randy wins WWE title, HHH gets jealous and kicks him out of Evolution) made Randy look bad and temporarily derailed his ascension to the main event level.

Could it work today? Absolutely!

Modifications? The basic story is as old as the hills, it just needs to be tweaked for whoever is in the program.

Who do you use? Zack Ryder as the up-and-comer, definitely. He's buzzing right now and a good program will take him to the next level. As for the veteran, I'd use Cena, but first I'd take the WWE title off of him for the better part of the program. Let them become friends, and I'd give them a good long reign as tag team champions, thus letting someone else clutter the main event picture while Cena is with Ryder. Eventually, they lose the tag titles, and Cena regains the WWE title. Ryder is hurt that Cena "broke up the team" and accuses him of only caring about himself, ... and turns on Cena. They face each other a few times, whether or not Ryder gets to be WWE Champ depends on how well he gets and retains crowd heat.

I think a slightly similar thing could happen with The Miz and Riley next time Miz holds the title, with Riley turning face and getting a title shot at The Miz...however it may be the case that by the time The Miz next holds the title, Riley will have a decent singles career by then.

The idea would work in todays WWE though.. Maybe Cody Rhodes gets close with Orton again and then his paranio and vanity lead to him turning on Randy setting up World Championship match.

Now can this work....yes but the twist your looking for is the jealousy working the other way. This can be done with Miz and A-Ry easily. A-Ry has been on the mic a little more and Miz is letting him. Now I don't know if I would call it jealousy but it caould eventually lead to tension between the two especially after the PPV. Id personlly like to see an angle play out in this fashion one way or another but like has been said you cant rush it and there arent to many true buddies out there anymore that are on tv all the time.

You know what your right, I can see this type of thing happening on smackdown. With a guy like Justin Gabriel ditch the corre turn face and for an alliance with a main eventer or a up-and comming main eventer like Christian. Make christian take gabriel under his wing as a sign of respect then we slowly start to see Gabriel getting big pops and finishing the matches with his 450 and Christian slowly getting fustrated about how fast Gabriels rising through the ranks. Then its some type of battle royal or #1 contenders match as Gabriel wins and goes on to face Orton or somebody but Christian cause Gabriel the match and end up turning on him saying "I worked to hard to be overlooked by you" then the battle in a grudge match that ends up being into a WHC match. This can elevate Justin Gabriel as a young new face and make Christian smackdown's top heel win win
