And for then thousandth time, the Dow was at an all time, home ownership was at all time high, the dollar was steady and then the Democrats won control of Congress based on a smear campaign run by the left wing media, the same left wing media that rooted this unqualified hack we have now into office, and then everything crashed. The first thing Congress, which featured a rookie Senator from Illinois, did was pass 37 non binding resolutions and then take control of the housing market and run it into the ground. Then they got on TV and blamed Bush, when it fact, it was Barney Frank's gay lover who ran Fannie into the ground. He did so while simultaneously wiping out the mortgage debt of Rep. Charlie Rangel and Sen. Chris Dodd, both democrats.

They fundamentally changed the way that entity was run within days of taking over.

Interest rates raised as a reaction to policy, and mortgage payments on ARM's went up by about 20%. People were skipping on mortgages, and the lenders lost chunks of payments. Banks are all dependent upon each other and fell like dominoes.
