To be honest I don't think the forum administrators have access to the forums FTP, it would be a little bit of a stretch for them to link the avatars from the image hosting sites as images do tend to be taken down.

If you save the pictures and then upload them, they should be fine.

Yes. However, sites like tinypic or imageshack are known to take the image down if it is overusing their own bandwidth. Which is why uploading to your own ftp would be a safer situation. However, seeing as is an affiliate with the actual WZ site, I don't think the current forum administrators have access to it.
