Dude...no offense, but the Ultimate Warrior contributed absolutely zero to the wrestling business. Possibly the most overrated wrestler of all time, who's title reign went over about as well as the Shockmaster.

None taken, I don'tactually like The Ultimate Warrior, charisma is all he had, but he did make a difference. The guy beating Hogan is a turiningpoint in wrestling history, but perhaps more for his opponents.

It just gripes me a bit that people go on about kayfabe being ridiculous and that it should be ignored, except when it suits them to say otherwise. You personally do not do this, but that was what I was getting at, I think.

Well yeah I agree it was a huge deal for him to go over Hogan, but that reign is more known for being an epic failure then it is for being historically important.

I've probably switched back and forth between the two atleast once at somepoint in my voting, but I've been trying not to. I've taken up the Slyfox philosophy of pro wrestling lately; that is, the bigger the draw/importance/contribution to wrestling, the better the wrestler. I've become sick and disgusted by the technical smarks who think Bret Hart was more popular then the Rock.

I'll of course continue voting in the tournament, but at this point I by no means am taking the outcome seriously. The only tournament ending result I've really agreed with thus far was HBK winning the original one.

Fair enough. I mostly subscribe to the Slyfox theory, but some of it is on personal enjoyment - I'd rather watch Dynamite Kid wrestle some luchadors, but I'd rather employ Dave Batista.

As for the bitching etc. I've just remembered that the guy I was backing, Santo, went out in the second round to Austin, and I didn't moan at all, despite the fact that of the 60 odd people voting against him, only tdigle and NSL bothered to actually put up an argument.

Meh, I've come to expect it by now. This tournament isn't about who's better, who was more solid in the ring, who had more of an impact on the business, etc. This tournament is about which IWC favorite is currently still in the tournament, and they get bonus points for being active.

Edge is IWC darling, he's an active wrestler, and thus, goes over guys who are much more deserving. If you were to start a wrestling promotion, with ANY guy in wrestling history, I'm not sure Edge would even crack the Top 100.
This would have never happened had y'all voted for Liger. He would have easily taken out Edge.
Don't blame it on me. I voted Liger.

Once Chris Benoit beat Sting because Sting apparently didn't know how to climb a ladder, and Triple H beat Hogan because Triple H was an inferior wrestler (true reason given), I quit taking it seriously. I have fun with it, and enjoy seeing how things go, but I don't take it seriously.

Liger over Lesnar? :lmao:
Only if we're discussing who was a better worker.
It was meant to be fun.
Then why are you throwing such a fit about it? I have fun with it, why can't you?

The more you think about it, and the more you try to refute it, the more sense it makes really.

I have a qestion I've wanted to ask you about this for ages. I appreciate that you think Batista and Cena are the best around today, and I'm inclined to agree, but on a personal level is it always the most popular guy that you yourself like? Cena is great, but I'd rather watch a hell of a lot more people than watch some of the other popular guys today.

No, not at all. I can't stand Triple H, and HBK bores the hell out of me. And on the flip side, I love watching AJ Styles and Shelton Benjamin.

But, and this is what people don't understand, there's a difference in quality and personal enjoyment. I recognize that Rey Mysterio back in 2005 and 2006 was arguably the best in-ring worker around, but I hated watching his matches. And I also recognize that Shelton Benjamin isn't as good of a worker that Triple H is.

There's a difference between who you like and who you think is good.

I'm pretty much exactly the same, although I do struggle to see the good in some people who I know should be good. Randy Orton being the classic example, I just don't get anything remotely positive from watching him perform.

I was having trouble falling asleep like a week ago, so i went on youtube and found an Orton promo and I fell asleep....

Orton works a much older style of wrestling. He's much slower in the ring, and outside of the RKO, doesn't use many flashy moves. And thus, he puts the crowd popping moves in the hands of the face, helping them to get over with the fans in the match.

Randy Orton's job is not to be aesthetically pleasing, it's to make the face look aesthetically pleasing. And I think he does a very good job of it.

welcome to heel phsycology 101 ladies and gents...

I read every single post in this thread and have came to a few conclusions.

1. The entire IWC and WZ can be counted on to make stupid decisions nine times out of ten.

2. Christian beating Stan Hansen, Benoit Beating Hogan, Liger beating HBK, and Edge beating Austin goes to show you that there really is no intelligence in who people think is the better wrestler. It's simply a popularity contest. And it sucks.

3. Steamboat Ricky officially won my respect tonight. Not that he was trying to or cares, but he's really showed me that even a mod can get pissed off and vent. And BigWill is unbearable to deal with when shit goes his way.

4. This entire Forum has taken sort of a nose dive since I've been here. I scouted the forums for well over a year and hesitated to post simply because the people that were in charge seemed to have a certain standard for posting and frankly, I just didn't want to make an ass of myself by posting here. But the bottom line is that if you like wrestling and talking wrestling, then this is the place to be. But if you don't like drama, politics, and the occasional power trip from a mod or three, then you need to take yourself elsewhere.

Now, I wonder what Fortress of Worditude Will's going to conjuer up to put Edge over Undertaker. Because he could write the second coming of the Bible about Edge and my ass is STILL voting for Taker.

I completely disagree with what I put in bold. Liger has been, at the very least, just as important to this business as Shawn Michaels. So, whatever you do, don't try and lump in that victory with the others. Liger's camp used no dirty tactics whatsoever to get that man over. Give me your reasons why you think that his winning is nothing more than a popularity contest, and I'll gladly argue with you.

That win was the exception to the rule and that went over well also. LOL. But yea. Other than Liger's stunning upset, most of the wins late in the tourney have shocked me. And Liger is MORE important to his part of the wrestling spectrum than Shawn Michaels. The world could have done without Shawn Michaels. If Liger would have ever 'lost his smile' in Japan, then it'd be a headline story in his heyday. So THAT win brought some life back into the tourney, then Edge going over Austin, Benoit beating Hogan, and RVD beating Savage and HHH put the entire tourney's validation on life support.

Contribution should have minimum relevance really, seeing as this is a kayfabe tourny... but meh, I'm over this Edge thing. It's just for fun and games and I can't fathom why people are having kittens, writing essays and handing out red reps just because someone has a different opinion. I guess what with the recession and all, there is an increase of people without jobs/lives...
