Mic Skills: The Miz vs. CM Punk

I know, and A lot of you who use WrestleZone Forums will agree with me, we always see threads about CM Punk cutting impressive promos and on other threads about The Miz being Awesome on the mic(no pun intended)..

Even in other threads where your discussing something else, there is also an odd someone posting something about The Miz mic skills and how his promos are good..

This thread is quite simple, who has better Mic Skills??

Once and for all lets hear it, these 2 have had their mic skills praised by the IWC for a long time now and I want to know which of the two do you pick??

I have to go for CM Punk!! I think he is the best WWE has had in a long time...I don't really see The Miz compared to Punk when it comes to in-ring ability either, but as for Mic Skills, Miz has got it, but I think he is top 5 in WWE...Punk is just too hot on the mic especially since his turn...he may be boring, but that is what is golden in his gimmick, it's what he says that you have to really listen to and maybe if you did, you'd join him..but seriously, he doesn't need to shout a phrase to get heat, like Miz does...Punk just has to talk and he will get instant heat...He is pure gold at the moment and I just see him getting better and better!!

CM Punk wins this one for me. The Miz may be good when it comes to working the stick and I am always entertained when I watch him he isn't as good as Punk. Punk is by far the superior mic worker. Since his heel turn he has been able to work the crowd like so phew others can brag about in the WWE today. When you hear the crowd's reaction you can just tell they flat out how hate this guy and probably truly wish for someone to kick his head in. While The Miz is also great at getting heat he just doesn't have that extra edge to his character that Punk has.

CM Punk's character is a radical cult leader who tries to force his way of living on to everyone because he believes that is how life should be lived. Punk plays this role so well that crowd absolutely despises him, and boo him every chance they get. While The Miz may be entertaining to listen too what is his character he plays? Is he just an awesome one? Miz is a cocky heel and he does a good job at it, but Punk has a character that just works so well for him and his mic work is the sole thing that has made his whole gimmick come to life during the coarse of his heel run.

In my opinion, The Miz is definately better on the mic. While both he and CM Punk are better than average, there are some times when Punk absolutely bores me, as he often speaks with little to no personality. The Miz, on the other hand, has a character that allows the audience to play along.

But when you look at the time all 3 have had in the business, it's pretty amazing the Miz is in the top 3 of the biggest wrestling organization in the world. I feel in time Miz could surpass both of them, but at this time I feel Punk and Jericho are above him.

CM Punk wins this for me. The guy is in touch with his character and since he is actually StraightEdge, his character is natural for him. When you grasp your character in this way, its hard not to dominate the mic really. Miz is getting there but right now Punk is the man on the mic.

Both are equal to one another in their way. It's just proportionate to the roles they're playing.

Right now, CM Punk's doing his thing in Smackdown acting like one the top heel there, and Miz is just reaching his deserved spot on the RAW Roster as a heel there. But both are playing their roles splendidly.

In closing, there's something to be said about CM Punk and The Miz: They're two of the best talkers around, and considering you got Jericho and Edge in the same company, that's saying something.

Note: I left out Sheamus since he's not quite at their level just yet. He's good, Irregardless of that.

I have to go with Punk, but it's really close. Punk has been gold since his heel turn, and is able to get the most heat of anyone. However, Miz's promo on Raw this past week was amazing in my book. One of the best he's done. He's slowly going up the latter. By the end of his career he will be in the top five guys who have ever been on the mic. Up there with The Rock, Jericho, Cena, and Austin.

If you're asking which one entertains me better, it's Miz. Both are exceptional at playing their respective characters. Miz pulls off that arrogant little SOB that you just want to slap everytime you see him. Punk manages to make you loathe him for being who he is.

It's not a fair comparison, with the characters being so different. But pure entertainment value, I give the edge to Miz.

as an aside....."irregardless" isn't a word.

CM Punk, because he's capable of eliciting a response without the need for catch phrase after catch phrase, and he's more of a throw-back to the wrestlers of old when he is cutting long-winded promos that tell stories.

Miz gets heat because he's an overly obnoxious prick (he has to scream he's awesome, for Christ's sake) – CM Punk gets heat because he comes off as a prototypical heel (I'm better than you, despite the fact I had to cheat to win, and here's why).

I’m going to have to go with CM Punk here, just. His promo’s have been outstanding since his heel turn, nothing bad can really ever be said about his promos. The Miz is certainly right behind him though. I couldn’t really rate one above the other right now but taking into consideration the feuds and higher level skill that Punk has been displaying get’s him just in front of Miz.

I only really see 2 people above Miz and Punk in terms of speaking on the mic and that’s Jericho and Edge. Cena’s great, Orton’s great but these 4 guys always, ALWAYS have the crowd hating you. Not even Orton was getting the kind of heat they get when he was with legacy other than the Wrestlemania 25 build up.

In closing, Punk > Miz.... for now.

THE MIZ IS NOT GOOD ON THE MIC!!!!

He has charisma, yes. And he has massive amounts of personality but he doesn't know how to use his skills to advance a story, or his opponent. All The Miz knows how to do is insult whoever he's facing.

While Punk on the other hand is absolutely amazing, he can get whatever he wants over, and unlike The Miz can portray either a face or a heel.

While I'm an admitted Miz mark and his promos have been gold lately, Punk has been nothing but platinum since his feud with Jeff. His work just reminds me of an older time... a better time.

Gotta go with CM Punk, because he is capable of being subtle. He can talk down to the crowd, generate that heel response, without raising his voice. He is simply better at insulting the crowd than the Miz is, because Punk seems so much more conversational about it? I am not sure how best to explain. Miz and Punk go about it two different ways. Miz is like the guy at the pep rally, getting the crowd whipped into a frenzy, only from a heel perspective. But, anyone with reasonable mic skills can do that. Miz is good at it, but going about it the way he does is easier than how Punk does it. Punk's insults seem much more prepared, and less off the cuff. With a Punk promo, you know he was thinking about it for a while, not in a he had to rehearse it to sound credible kind of way, but the I have something I have to get off my chest kind of way. It seems more natural sounding.

C M Punk, hard to tell though because I am a fan of his and I cant stand the Miz, so I may be bias. I liked The Miz and Morrison together, don't think he that great on his own.

Well, Miz is personally my favorite WWE Superstar currently and I've been a fan of his since MTV's Real World Back to NY....So I guess I have a little bias here. Miz gets the vote from me. That is not to take anything away from Punk. Both are great heels on the microphone and draw lots of heat....but Miz is basically one of the few things keeping me watching wrestling today....Both can talk but I feel he has more charisma then Punk...

This right here is very hard. I got Miz taking this for the same reason as one of guys posted before. Punk does speak with little personality a lot be regardless, Miz and Punk are elitist at what they do on the stick.

Kind of hard because while both are entertaining, both have different approaches on how to work the mic. And they are both effective.

I do have to give the edge to Punk though because he gets the Jericho "2008-present" heat where people just hate the guy. They don't like him. His mere presence rubs people the wrong and he to pour on more heat with his promos, good stuff.

But the Miz is great as well and in the short time he has been in the WWE, has already crafted his promo ability (something some wrestlers take years to accomplish and some don't even get there) and he still has a ways to go.

This is one hell of a choice to make. I would have to lean mostly to CM Punk. Both have absolutely amazing microphone skills. And either one of them could really be superior to the other in one way or another. But this comes down to a personal preference. It's not because I hate listening to The Miz. But simply because I love to listen to CM Punk that bit of a notch more.

CM Punk has entertaining promos. And sure The Miz has as well. But CM Punk has continued to have them for the better part of his career. As opposed to The Miz who has only been entertaining to me in the 1½ years time.

I find this a pretty easy choice to make. Miz cuts good promos in the same way that Christian and Jericho cut good promos - they don't. They simply speak without stuttering, add intonation in the correct places and hey bingo, they're praised to high heaven. Their promos are competent, but appear better because they're caught in a sea of incompetence. I'd probably rank Cena above them, to be honest.

Punk, however, demonstrates creativity in his promos. I'm trying to think of how to write about the intangibilities in his promos, but I guess they wouldn't be intangibilities if I could so easily describe them. Put it this way, whose one man show would you rather see - Straightedge CM Punk or straightforward heel textbook The Miz?

I have to go with CM Punk in this poll but I do think it is closer than the poll at the top of the page would lead us to believe. I don’t think there is such a gulf in class and talent that the Miz should be that far behind but there is still enough in CM Punk that I do think he has the better talent when talking. Both guys have a natural talent that is becoming more prevalent for The Miz and is the main aspect of CM Punk’s game whilst he is injured. It is a true testament to him that the WWE have allowed him to stay on the show whilst he is not wrestling. I think they know that Punk’s words are still enough for him to be releveant and needed on Smackdown and I think that shows how awesome he is.

The Miz, on the other hand is a great heel character. He has really impressed me over the last few months with his promo skills and it caused me to be a fan of his. His charisma is really something to behold and whilst I think he is trying to eliminate the comedy from his promos, they are still damn entertaining and have really helped to get him over. He seems to be able to forge a dynamic between himself and whoever he is facing at the time and only CM Punk seems to be able to do that as well as he does.

Both of them are fine talents but I think that CM Punk just holds the advantage and it is mainly due to the gimmick that he is currently using. The leader gimmick requires you to be a great talker and CM Punk has definitely been the ideal choice for the role. It has paid dividends for him and I think that just does enough to edge out the Miz.

I think Punk winning by a lot is entirely justified. It is the same problem in all of these polls for Miz. He is simply quite good at doing something that is entirely unoriginal and repetitive, yet still effective. While Punk or Anderson or others that are truly great on the mic bring an originality, creativity and versatility that Miz has not shown at all.

I chose The Miz. I love CM Punk's mic work, but I honestly think that The Miz is better on the mic. The Miz's promos on Raw and MITB were amazing. He bring so much passion and intensity to the mic, I'm not saying that Punk doesn't but Miz just has much more passion. The Miz is more entertaining on the mic, Punk seems to be so repetitive... it's always "Straight Edge this, Straight Edge that, I'm better than you". The Miz does repeat "I'm Awesome" a lot, but it's not that annoying because it's one sentence... Punk basically uses the same promo every time.

I'm going with my savior, CM Punk. While both imo have really developed into their own since last year. I feel CM Punk gets the edge based on his ability to be distinct from normal heel promos unlike the Miz who except for rare occasions (like during his fued with MVP in January) does the same heel promos for most of the time.

He was able to use a concept like a New Year's Resolution and turn it into a idea for his Straightedge Society which is something that few people can do.

He is great in mic skills but I feel it's still similar to Jericho and Edge by saying that the fans are beneath him and his better than everybody else but unlike Punk who trying to make a movement to better people for their faults but that's why I believe Punk is better than the Miz in promo abillities but they both are at the top in WWE when it comes to the mic.

While I do think the Miz is good on the mic, C.M. Punk is better. He is so over right now as one of if not THE top heel on SmackDown! and the main reason is because of his performances on the mic. Every time he comes out, every thing he says and does gets a reaction from the crowd and it's always boos, rarely do you hear a crowd cheer for Punk after one of his "I'm better than you" speeches. He knows what buttons to push, who to talk about, and what to say to get the crowd to hate him every time he comes out.
