Law & Order: Special Victims Unit

Serious Mozzarella

Special Victims Unit
I just saw an episode of SVU that ended with a guy being thrown in jail for the rest of his life, for facilitating the murder of a 9 year old girl.

Apparently, he runs a porn website, that uses adult models and actresses, and dresses them up like children. Well, some guy in another state kidnapped and raped a little girl because he looked at the website and got ideas. So the owner of the website, who's never met the guy who killed the little girl, goes to jail.

This show is fucking ******ed.

But holy shit, is it ever entertaining. It's one of those shows that I can not stop watching once an episode comes on. I have a series recording set up on my DVR, and I'm thinking about getting some of the DVD sets, if they exist.

Damas y caballeros, what are your thoughts on SVU?

Here's the thing, I have seen plenty of episodes of SVU and that, alone, surprises me half to death.

Law and Order has never been one of the shows that I will go out of my way to see but my Gran used to talk about SVU and watch it every single night. For that reason, it was hard for me to avoid the show when I was staying with her. With that being said, I think that you are right on the money, Mozz. Whilst watching SVU, I have never found myself being bored and although some of the plots may seem a little far-fetched, as soon as the awesome theme music kicks in, I am hooked on a show I have no business of watching.

I suppose it helps the show that I used to have such a boyish crush on Mariska Hargitay... However, that didn't fuel my desire to watch this show. No, it was that it always managed to some up with new spins on old and played out plots. Yes, they were a little strange at time but once you started watching, you just had to see it out to the end.

Since my Gran died, I haven't caught an episode of the show except in small bits and pieces. That being said, I think it is a show that I would like to watch and if the time to catch up ever arrives, then I will most certainly launch myself into the show.

a lot of the shows come from the headlines all around the world, of course they get highly fictionalized thats why you occasinally see the disclaimer that this story is fictional, but a high number are insipired by true events.... same with criminal minds csi etc.

...Of course, I get that it's fictional. But fictional doesn't necessarily mean that a written story is immune from believability. Law & Order is set in a realistic New York setting, following the laws of a realistic New York, and because of that, the show was inconsistent based on its own rules.

Doesn't mean I don't absolutely love the show, however.

It was on all fucking day today and it usually is every Tuesday. I'm the exact same way, once it comes on I won't stop watching until I absolutely have to. The stories can be flat out fucking ridiculous at times, but I have to know how it ends. I'm the same way with a lot of Cop Dramas, but nothing holds my attention the way SVU does.

SVU is the only Law and Order show that I can even watch. It isn't a show I watch religiously, but if I can't find anything on I'll play an episode or so on Netflix or watch it on USA when they run reruns. I love Mariska Hargitay so it is even more a reason to watch it. Here and Christopher Meloni work so well together and are arguably the best on air duo of any show on television. The show is so intense that whenever it is on it draws you in and keeps you hooked.

I know sometimes the plot resolution can be a bit convoluted, but its not as unrealistic as you think. I can provide a really good example too.

My best friend was sent to prison for anally raping a 5 year old. They performed 2 rape kits on this kid and both turned up negative. Police reports also turned up nothing. The kid even said nothing happened. However the mother kept saying "Its mother's intution, I KNOW something happened". The judge threw out all the evidence that would have set him free, because she was a mother herself, and mothers intuition was a good enough reason for her to sentence my friend to prison.

As for the show, I do enjoy it, I try to watch it ever week. Though tbh, I cannot stand the character of Benson. I hate her self-righteous attitude that all men are guilty of sex crimes, they just dont know it yet. That consensual sex needs to be scheduled with consent forms filled out in triplicate and notorized and even then the majority of the time, its still rape, even if the girl doesnt know it.

There was an episode a few weeks back where this husband and wife were going to a swingers club and the husband ended up dead. The suspect was the wife and Benson was telling the wife "its ok, no jury in the world would convict you because you gave him the best 20 years of your life, a good home (which is ironic because she was a stay at home mom, but yeah SHE gave HIM the house >.>), beautiful kids and how does he repay you? Drags you to a sex club, forces you to have sex with other men for his own sick perverted pleasure.". The wife looks up at Benson and says "For your information, woman arent the only ones that get tired of the same sunday morning sex. I was the one who dragged HIM to the sex club, and forced him to have sex with other woman while I watched". I was like F*** YEAH!! GIVE THAT WOMAN A GET OUT OF JAIL FREE CARD I DONT CARE IF SHE KILLED HER HUSBAND!!

I think that Law & Order: SVU is by far the best Law & Order series because it has more interesting plots than the other Law & Order shows and better actors too. All of the main characters are memorable and I enjoy it more with each episode. Some of the storylines are controversial but the sad reality is that things like this can happen in real life and it makes you appreciate the good things you have in your life all the more after viewing some of SVU's more messed up episodes.

This'll be off topic, but

I'm willing to bet that your best friend had the worst lawyer in the history of lawyers. You should try telling him to get another lawyer and file an appeal. Appeals are made for cases like this, when shit is done incorrectly in the court room and someone is wrongly convicted.

This DOES sound like some shit that you would see on an SVU episode, where the characters' emotions get so intense about a certain subject, they start trying to convince suspects and "victims" of something that happened that otherwise no one believed happened.
