Just by the comment they leave...and sometimes the post you made. Many times I can tell by the post that gets repped, whether its supposed to be green or red.

I'm pretty sure I once received a gray rep comment that said "fuck you". I thought that the individual was making an indecent proposal to me. So I took it as green. Afterall, I'd fuck me.

The king of gray rep is some poster named "Mr. X." He never leaves any comments, but you sure as hell find a lot of rep from him if you look at the rep comments for regular posters.
