It's time for Shelton to capture the ECW Title

Dont get me wrong, Im a peep of Christian, but I believe ECW needs a new champion to get a new superstars career going. If it was up to me I would move Christian when the draft occurs to Raw and make him a star there, because he prooved to all of us when he was in TNA he can be a main eventer.

Anyways, I want a new fresh face at as the star of ECW, and Shelton Benjamin is perfect for the job. He is excellent in the ring because of being so athletic. He is very capable to main event ECW. I also believed when on SD he was going to become a main eventer there.

Shelton has put alot of work for years, and is deserving of becoming the ECW champ. Look at what he has done: Two MITNBs, Multiple IC titles, US champ, and Tag champ. If the WWE were to make ECW's main events a extreme rules match every week (most likely no), not only would it bring in more ratings but Shelton is very capable of going extreme. He is a huge talent.

Ever since going to ECW I thought right away, give him the title. But since signing Christian, ther were pushing him. But give it to a new guy because obviously ECW is a show to produce the future talent of WWE and to resurect the fallen talent. Get Christian out of there and give the belt to Benjamin because he is the most deserving. Most of you might say Ryder or Yoshi, but I believe this mediocre push they will be nothing more than jobbers. It time to let Shelton Benjamin show why he is the "Gold Standard".

I definitely think it's about time they put Shelton in a match like this.

Christian and Shelton have been in some really good matches against each other over the years. Adding a Ladder, which is pretty much both their specialties just brings this to another level.

I was hoping Shelton would become the No. 1 contender to the ECW Title, but I had no idea that a Ladder would be involved!

I may just order this PPV just for this match!

I like the way they've been been building Shelton up over the past couple of weeks. He's just been making Zach Ryder his bitch!!!

I was also pleasantly surprised to hear the crowd chanting Let's Go Shelton during his match this week.

This should tell people in the WWE that when they actually put him in situations where he looks good. He gets over with the crowd, and he's just not an IWC hero.

I hope Shelton wins, but just the fact that he's even getting the opportunity in a match like this shows that the WWE has faith in him again.

Personally, I like Shelton very much. He's got incredible in-ring skills. He can work an outstanding match with almost anyone. And he's paid his dues in the WWE. At this point in his career, with a string of U.S./IC titles and his tag title reigns, he's certainly ready to make the jump to main-eventing a show. The unfortunate fact remains, though, that Shelton is absolutely devoid of personality on the microphone. Every time the man gets on the stick, even the crickets fall asleep. He's just plain BORING!

To push him into the title scene as a major contender is absolutely, undeniably well-earned at this point. Still, to give him the strap would be to overlook his obvious deficiency when it comes to cutting promos.

As champ, Benjamin would need to be someone who WWE could build the entire brand around. Over the last several months, they have done this with Christian to great success. It's because he is not only an incredible in-ring worker but also extremely skilled on the microphone.

Shelton doesn't have that same ability. He's tried -- and failed -- to build a following based on promos or character development. Fortunately for him, his work-rate has amassed him quite a following. But where being champ is concerned, that's just not enough.

ECW needs a champ that can not only put on a spectacle in the ring but can cut an engaging, entertaining promo to help build feuds, develop/advance new talent and keep people tuning in. While I'd love to think Shelton can do that, his track record has proven different.

The best bet for Shelton now -- just as it has been for the past however many years -- would be to give him a solid heel turn and strap him with a manager to do the talking. That way he could focus on what he does best -- giving fans solid 3-4 (out of 5) star matches -- while leaving the talking to someone qualified.

I think Shelton is a pile of shit, have done for a while now. Him being on ECW and very few PPVs haven't changed my opinion. But him being on Smackdown and several PPVs last year didn't either. Mostly because he's not capable of producing anything other than a standard singles match.

Luckily he's the sort of man I'd want in a ladder match, so he'll at least produce something that I shouldn't instantly forget at the TLC show.

He probably should be the next person to capture the ECW title, purely because he's got more name value than everybody else, bar Christian, on that show. But in reality, somebody like MVP should be moved to ECW to win the belt first.

No, Shelton should not win the ECW title. I'm sure his match with Christian at TLC will be good in terms of what happens in the ring.... but that is all Shelton is good at. He is BORING on the mic, one of the absolute worst when it comes to promos.... and he looks so STUPID with that yellow hair. I hope that he does not win the title because I just do not care about him. I'd even take Braden Walker as ECW champion before Shelton if that tells you anything.

I am a Shelton fan but do agree when everyone else says that he does suck on the mic.

Putting him as champion would screw a lot of the work that WWE and Christian have put into making ECW a credible brand.

We will now have 3 weeks of face vs face development (it will be just them in tag matches with Regal and Co.) into what does promiss nonetheless to be a very good match with some very good spots. I believe that is the only reason why the ECW championship will be defended at TLC: because in that context, they have the talent to put on a good show.

My prediction is Christian wins, but I can't help and think that since Taker and Cena don't seem to be losing their titles anytime soon, if WWE won't give us a surprise and crown a new champion at this PPV.

I just hope to be pleasantly surprised with some sort of storyline for the next 3 weeks that will make me care about that match in more than just a "it should be interesting" kinda way.

Cya.

I am a huge Shelton fan and i'm so glad he is getting this oppurtunity. However, how many times has Shelton been giving a push and let it slip through his hands, I really hope he capitalises on this latest push and we will see him main eventing PPVs for years to come.

All the people who are complaining about Shelton's mic skills, I agree that he is poor but that doesn't mean he can't get over with the fans, look at Jeff Hardy, he barely said a word for the first few years of his career in WWF but he was still crazy over, also, The Great Khali was World Heavyweight Champion, not sure many people would say he was great on the mic

It appears as if this is the latest Shelton push, we usually get at least one or two a year. He does jack shit for awhile, but gets another opportunity soon enough. However, there is a common theme that can be seen in all of these pushes; they fail. Sure, Shelton is athletic and can slam people and jump around and was a great 7 sport athlete in high school, but none of that really matters. He isn't a very good pro wrestler. Sure, he still serves a purpose, but he isn't meant to be even a mildly big star. Maybe it's the hair, which just looks silly. More likely, it's his lack of charisma and the fact that his mic schools have worsened throughout the years. He'll get us excited for awhile, but it'll ultimately lead to nothing and the cycle will continue.

Everyone knows WWE hates Shelton Benjamin for some reason. but everyone else loves him. i think that this is a good opportunity to give him the title. not on his first shot, but build a Christian/Benjamin feud and eventually give the belt to Shelton. IF they do this, it won't be for Benjamin's push, but for Christian's push to bigger and better titles. Don't get me wrong, Shelton deserves it more than anyone, but they are dropping the title to Shelton for christian, not Shelton. and everyone knows William Regal is wayyyy too boring to carry the ECW title for longer than a month.

Shelton is a fucking phenomenal athlete. He is probably the best pure wrestler of the last decade, above Danielson or McGuinness or whomever. But that does not necessarily translate to world title credibility. Given character and mic skills Shelton deserves to be the kind of transitional champion whom one can bill, in years to come, as a 'former world champion'. But he's never going to be an HBK, much less a Cena, unless he seriously works on his mic skills and general connectivity with the crowd.

I have to agree, I really think this is Sheltons' time to shine on ECW now, Christian has kinda had a nice long reign but I think it is time for him to move on. This would work perfect because Christian could then enter the RR to win and challenge on either smackdown or raw for the title, moving him straight into the main event status, giving us something new to watch on those shows at Wrestlemania

Shelton Benjamin has failed at every push he's ever gotten. He's boring, his character just doesn't have that "It." They've given him numerous pushes on every brand for every title and he just doesn't do well. He's destined to mid-card, no matter how talented he is. The crowd just doesn't care about him anymore. I find him incredibly athletic, a damn great athlete. Maybe give the belt to him, test run. To see how he works as a world champion.

Well, I think that is exactly what WWE is planning to do at TLC: Have Shelton Benjamin capture the ECW Championship. I mean, when Shelton was on Smackdown, he was literally the face of the mid-card. He was United States Championship for 7 of the 11 months that he was on the brand. While he didn't defend his title a whole lot, he's still one of the longest reigning U.S. Champions. When he was traded back to ECW, I thought he would win the title, since he didn't get to do so during his first stint.

Shelton Benjamin has won many titles in his 7+ year WWE career. He's a 3-time Intercontinental Champion, a 2-time WWE Tag Team Champion, a former United States Champion, and a soon-to-be ECW Champion! A very impressive resume. He's one of the most entertaining superstars in the ring... I just wish he was better on the mic. Besides the fact that I'm more of a Christian fan, I want Christian to be champ over Shelton for the simple fact that he's better on the mic.

Shelton Benjamin has proven in the past that he can make a great champion if he's booked correctly. He has what it takes. I think winning the ECW Champion will really benefit him, and maybe ECW. If he can do a good job as ECW Champion, who knows... he could very well be on his way to winning the WWE Championship or World Heavyweight Championship in the very near future.

Hey guys!

I just want to say that although I am a big Shelton fan and do agree with everyone when it comes to his weaknesses (mic) and strengths (athletic ability)...as opposed to all the other Shelton fans, I hope he doesn't win at TLC!

If they want to make Shelton a credible champion they have to make a big deal out of it and create an interesting storyline. I feel that just 3 weeks isn't gonna be enough for that.He should only make it on his 2nd or 3rd try at the title....

The truth is, we still don't know how serious WWE is about making him ECW Champion. But I do hope he gets there eventually. And considering he does get it and Christian is moved out of ECW at the draft, we will also get some new fresh feuds such as Shelton vs Regal.

I would have no problem with Shelton winning the ECW title at the TLC ppv. My only problem with this is like everyone else is saying. His mic skills are terrible. I just find him extremely boring. He is on of the best in ring workers in the WWE (in my opinion) and he can keep up with the best in the business.

If he had better mic skills, I would say he would probably being on Smackdown or Raw competing for one of the top titles. But should shelton win the title? No i don't think so, just because of the mic factor.

Yeah, the ECW title seems custom made for Shelton Benjamin.

The ECW title goes on two types of wrestler:

1) Young guys who need a upper midcard title to bring them to the next level and

2) Old guys that were never really good enough to get to the main event, but are still decent and over.

Guess which category Shelton falls into.

If you're the thinking the former, you're wrong. Shelton is never gonna win a world title and it's time for everyone to realise that. He's just not good enough. He's had some decent matches, picked up some big wins and held a few titles. But the man has the charisma of a plastic bottle and mic skills that are just as bad. You will never make it to the main event without some kind of charisma and/or mic skills.

And the ECW title is put on the veterans who are missing that one key component needed to make it to the top. So yeah, it suits Shelton well. And I hope that, after all the high spots and jumping off stuff, that he manages to get the ECW title.

When Christian said this match could steal the show, I couldn't help but agree. Hopefully they let this match run its course and let them work their magic. I would have no problems with Shelton winning the title at TLC. Shelton has seemed to upped his game since moving to ECW. He is ready for the ECW title. Christian is the clear cut face of ECW and it is time for him to move on to bigger and better things. I don't see Shelton winning the match. I do however see him having a fantastic showing, along with Christian. And this won't be the last time these two will face off. Maybe Shelton captures the title at Royal Rumble or on ECW. If Shelton were to win the ECW title, it would be odd come WM, to not see him in the MITB match.

I can see this going either way and I would have no problem with the outcome. Shelton is deserving of the ECW title and Christian is deserving of bigger and better things. As I type this out I keep thinking of new scenarios. If Shelton wins, I think there could be a strong possibility that Christian could win the Royal Rumble and would allow him to move to Raw or SD, while Shelton claims Christian's spot as the top face of ECW.

I don't see it happening. Shelton has be known to tease us IWC with these title matches, us hoping he will finally win the title. (I hate Shelton but I'm referring to the IWC as a whole) And his record in big ladder matches is not good, E.G MITB.

The only window I see a possible Benjamin title win is because Christian has held the title since Night of Champions I think. He's got to drop it eventually so he can move on to bigger things. So we'll see.

WWE is missing the boat on Benjamin. His "The Gold Standard" gimmick (mostly a rip-off of "The Natural" Butch Reed, another blond African-American, who was himself a rip-off of "Sweet" Daddy Siki, but I digress) would go perfectly with a mouth-piece. Bring in Vickie Guerrero to act as his manager. The guy would gain massive heat instantly and only have to worry about carrying matches in the ring, which he's MORE than qualified to do.

On his own, though, Shelton is going to be a tough sell if WWE plans to put the ECW title on him. He's over with the crowd while he's in the ring, but as soon as he steps behind the microphone, it's dead silence. That's simply not the kind of guy to put the belt on.

Clearly WWE likes Shelton... A LOT. The man has gotten more opportunities to improve, strut his stuff and carry belts than the vast majority of others performers on the roster. Every time, though, he proves he's still lacking the "it" factor to move to the next level. As much as I'd like to believe otherwise, experience is making me start to believe that if he hasn't found that by now, he's never going to find it.

I Don't understand why the wwe has not given him the title yet. He is so athletic and should be on raw in the wwe title picture. A program with Super Cena would be great. Of course he would not win but he would get eleveatd to a higher level. But he should at least get th ecw title.

I Don't understand why the wwe has not given him the title yet.
He's not over enough. There's several guys more over than him.
He is so athletic and should be on raw in the wwe title picture.
Athleticism doesn't matter. Well, it does, but the main picture is getting over, and whether Shelton's morbidly obese or super athletic, it doesn't matter because......... he's not over.

A program with Super Cena would be great. Of course he would not win but he would get eleveatd to a higher level. But he should at least get th ecw title.
You like the flippy flip guys, don't ya? That's a little extreme. He's been on Raw, and he floundered. He's been on Sd!, and floundered (well, he did fairly well). He belongs on ECW until he improves.

With that said, if Christian looses the title, Shelton is a suitable guy to win it.

No, he shouldn't get the belt. But he will. While he is an amazing athlete in the ring, he is purple gorilla shit on the mic. However, there's nobody else credible enough on the ECW Brand to hold the belt other than Dreamer, Christian, and Benjamin. They're about to start prepping Christian for a brand switch, Dreamer's off eating chocolate donuts somewhere, and nobody else is ready to hold the belt. So by default, Shelton will get the belt. While he deserves a title run for his effort, he shouldn't get it based on his talent. But somehow he's over with the crowd. So if Chris Benoit can get a World Heavyweight Title run off of pure in-ring talent and fan pops, then so can Benjamin.

No Shelton should not win the title, he's not a great all around person. Or atleast good on the mic. Or a poster boy. You need atleast one of those 3 to be the main guy on a show, regardless of the fact that it's ECW! But I honestly do think Christian should drop the belt in the next 3-5 months and go to one of the bigger brands, preferebly Smackdown. Too much shit racked up on RAW. But seriously Shelton is great but, nahh I cant see this happening. But it should be hell of a match!

I'm a Shelton fan and I agree with the majority of posts in this thread: fantastic in-ring ability, not-so-great on the mic. After seeing him on ECW, I do think his mic work has improved over what it was. Yes his racial stereotyping of Yoshi was childish, but it was spoken with confidence and got a laugh from the audience. I also liked his "Black & Decker" comment on Zach Ryder.

I hope this face v face feud has some legs, as I think Christian could help Benjamin lift his mic work and I would like it to end with Benjamin getting the title and Christian moving on to better things, just not at TLC.

They're hyping it up themselves, and the thing is, it has the potential to be a terrific match. I just hope they're allowed to put everything on the line and make this the show-stealer it could be!
