In Three Years:Drew McIntyre

In an attempt to predict what mid-carders with uncertain futures have in front of them, I have decided to analyze a few of their situations to judge exactly where they're going. My first subject is...

Drew%2BMcIntyre3.jpg

The Chosen One, Drew McIntyre. This man debuted on Smackdown with a lot of hype behind him, including an endorsement from Vince McMahon himself, crushing guys like R-truth and Matt Hardy on his way to taking the Intercontinental Championship from John Morrison. It was pretty clear that WWE wanted to push this guy to the moon, and quickly, but the audience (or "WWE Universe") didn't exactly, uh, care. Despite how hard he was initially pushed, it seemed like he just couldn't quite get much real heat going. After dropping the title to Kofi Kingston, McIntyre eventually became one half of the WWE Tag Team Champions with Cody Rhodes, in a reign that's better left forgotten. After losing those titles, Cody got a big push, while Drew did nothing for a while. This past week, however, he was moved to Raw via the supplemental draft.

So, in three years...

I see Drew being at least a two-time World Champion and an established main eventer on whatever brand he's on. Look, I'm actually a pretty big fan of this guy, though that wasn't always the case. For about his entire first year with the company, I thought he was absolute crap in the ring. However, over time he seems to have gotten used to the WWE style of wrestling and knows how to put on an entertaining match. He also seems to have naturally good chemistry with most of those he steps into the ring with, from Rey Mysterio to Randy Orton to Kofi Kingston. Those in charge obviously see a lot in him, but it just seems that they don't really know what to do with him. That should all change with this move to Raw. I expect an immediate feud with someone like Rey Mysterio to get things started, and that he'll move up to bigger names from there, maybe even feuding with John Cena at some point. I wouldn't be surprised to see him in the main event by the end of the year. The only problem with being on Raw is that the show is always crowded in the main event, but an eventual move to Smackdown can remedy that. I may be overreacting, but I see only greatness in this man's future.

But anyway, enough from me. Where do you Drew in three years?

not sure where he will be in 3 years but drew getting moved to raw could mean real great things for him, or it could mean bad things, but i predict it will mean good things for him now he is on raw

I could definitely see him being a multiple time world champion. I would just hate to see the WWE drop the ball with this guy like they have been on Smackdown. One of the WWE's greatest young talents right now and could be a big star.

i think he would of done great in the smackdownn main event, es[ecially with randy orton there now. a mcintyre/orton feud for the world title would of been great, but dont know if he has the experience straight to raw main event. cause raw is more the a show and smackdown the b (i know it isnt exactly, but there is a difference), he might find himself in the raw midcard, pushing main event till a return to smackdown for a few world title runs

Drew McIntyre, ive always liked this guy, he has an EPIC entrance, and could draw a lot of attention, but it isnt so much that the WWE doesnt know how to use him, its all about fan reaction, the WWE Universe doesnt care about mid-carders like we do, they only care about John Cena, Randy Orton, and all the top stars, its more the young viewers fault that WWE cant really produce a top notch star anymore like they could have a few years back, unless of course they are huge and become baby faces really quick. Its hard to be a good heel in a world where John Cena and other top stars are super heroes, over shadowing what could be the greatest thing WWE has ever seen, albeit the fact they push crap like Cole being a heel like its nothing. I see Drew becoming a top star later this year, if he doesnt fall to the black abyss by August and Summer Slam. He will in fact be a World Champion in the next three years, while also being a former three time IC Champion. He will make his Smackdown return next year during the draft, and will Dominate and take reign after winning his first World Title at WM...oh skipped over the part about him becoming MR. MITB. if that concept sticks.

if he doesnt turn face in 2011 then hes doomed with the likes of the miz and del rio ahead of him in the heel front

hes another superstar where the crowd just doesnt always know how to react, to me that means a change coming, fiery faces always work well imo

I think Drew McIntyre will be one of the big babyfaces of WWE, maybe not in three years, but in about 5 years!
I can only see big things for him and Cody Rhodes, and here are my reasons:

  • Drew and Cody are only 25 years old (the youngest mid-carders).
Drew and Cody have an awesome entrance.
They were separated from their brands (which means that Cody vs Drew will be a classic).
In three years both of them will have a tittle reign, we cant doubt about that.
Drew McIntyre will be a face, Cody Rhodes a heel.
Drew in the end of this year will be in the main event scene.
Cody in the end of this year will be in the main event scene.
    They have awesome finishers.
People really want to see both of them (Drew improved a lot, and a lot of you are starting to like the guy)

I now that in the past McIntyre was boring and stale, but two years passed and he improved a lot... (in the last SD! he really was good with RRRandy Orton). He had almost the same pop Edge did two weeks ago, and he was just fighting against Chris Masters c'mon..

Drew McIntyre will be the next Randy Orton or HHH!!
Give him a storyline with The Big Show, make him win a bunch of times... If he is a face, well let him win the feud, if not, at least give him a lot of momentum!
I dont want to see Drew McIntyre win the Money in the Bank, because of his look, he really seem to be a badass guy that can take care of the business, the money in the bank should go to JoMo or he will never be wwe champion and his crazy fans will start to complain and i just dont want to see that again!

Drew and Cody will be the two great things in three years!!

But anyway, enough from me. Where do you Drew in three years?

Three years? I'm not sure where he'll be in three days, or whenever the next Future Endeavored class will be announced. On the one hand, it was encouraging to see Drew come down the aisle and get some mic time last Friday; that they would use him to help bring in Orton with a bang could be a good thing. On the other hand, he was just a sacrifice for Randy, which reminded me too much of Robert Conway's last appearance in WWE in which he was brought out one last time for the sole purpose of being fired by Vince McMahon. Ugh.

Some people on this forum have speculated that Drew's early tenure with the company was rough because: (1) his ring work wasn't good (2) there was resentment about his "Chosen One" status (3) he didn't adequately sell for opponents. If any (or all) of those factors were real, it's understandable how his career path might have been slowed.

Now, though, none of those things are true. His work in the ring is superior; he really knows how to work a match and he's putting in more effort than ever before. I've seen his drop kick only twice, but it's one of the best around, especially given his height. He manages to work effectively against anyone; witness his matches against Rey Mysterio. It's hard for anyone to look good against Rey, given his lack of height and the fact that his opponent needs to cooperate with all of Rey's "spots"...... yet, Drew managed it well, especially when clotheslining Rey while Drew was on his knees. It could have looked ridiculous, but Drew made it work.

A Battle Royal is a great way for a performer to coast through a match, but in the BR on Draft night, no one was working harder than Drew. I loved seeing him battle his buddy Sheamus. If McMahon didn't notice how much effort Drew put forth, he should have.

Add to all of that the fact he's selling like crazy for his opponents and I think moving him to RAW might mean the company is finally ready to give him a featured role. I love his nasty personality but believe his ultimate success requires him to turn face. With the right kind of program, he could be one of the biggest heroes around.

I wish they'd bring back the program they were working with he and Kelly. I couldn't wait each week to find out was going to happen next, only to see the whole program mysteriously abandoned. But with Drew's looks, I think working a series with a diva-in-distress would be a great way to get him over.

In three years, he'll either be a top face......or slinging McEwan's Ale in a tavern in Glasgow.:icon_cry:

Drew McIntyre has the look of a future world champion and Vince himself has even called him one. Over the past year he has proven himself in the ring by improving dramitically and he can be good on the mic if he is given the chance. Drew could potentially have very good fueds with the likes of John Cena, Randy Orton and Rey Mysterio. I think he can be good as both a face and a heel but the only issue with McIntyre is that I think he needs to connect with the audience more, due to his limited promo time he has given. If anyone doesnt think Drew can be a great wrestler, go watch his performance in the smacckdown chamber match at Elimination Chamber 2011, where he dominated. It was easily one of the best performances of the night

Is that sig a young Drew?

As of today It's so easy for drew to get over by just simply attacking John Cena because hey it worked out for the miz twice when he first came to raw and now. Also somebody was right on the money when they said kids don't care for majority of roster because it's true. I don't mean any harm to kids but their a big reason why some stars aren't over because they just cling to their little share of favorites which is okay but it does hurt some superstars.

The crowd still doesn't respond to him. He hasn't given anyone a reason to care. R-Truth has. If anyone is going to be a multi time champion in 3 years, I'd put more stock in R-Truth then a guy who dropped the ball over and over and over.

You are crazy my man!!
You know how old is R-Truth?? Yes, he is a great heel and stuff, but his age dont allow him to win a world championship, and I still think that he has no personality and i for sure dont care about him...

Drew McIntyre was on SmackDown for what 5 months without a proper storyline, and somehow he managed to gain a reaction for the fans...
He will be a major star, and probably as a face, maybe not this year, but in 2012 he will be World Champion, mark my words!!

R-Truth is a moron, he doesnt care about that anymore, i think he doesnt even know where he is!!
Anybody who has an entrance that he has to sing alongside the crowd, is cheap pop!!
They dont care about Truth, they care about his song, after his feud with JoMo he will be future endeavored or he will be in Finlay's old place...

R-Truth is the new Finlay!!

Drew got a reaction in 5 months? R Truth got a reaction in 1 day. Probably the biggest heel reaction of the night, comparable to Miz. He came out the next week on Raw and capitalized on it drawing even more heat. Drew has never gotten that reaction, even when given the best story angle on Smackdown. Even when given many chances after that. R-Truth got it in one night. That is fact, I'm not making that up. Go back and watch it yourself. Compare the fan reaction to Drew this Friday to R-Truth on Monday. It's a no contest.

That's why I'm down on Drew. I don't see him capitalize on anything given to him. Swagger is getting himself over with Cole and is doing a damn good job at it. Shaemus managed to get himself over, so did Miz. Drew was given that opportunity with the best angle on SD and failed. It's that simple. He won't be able to compete with ADR, Punk, Truth, and Miz. Maybe he will do better as a face? I doubt it. Swagger will probably take his spot for that too. At least he has the goofy Kurt Angle gimmick going for him. I can see Swagger making people laugh. What will Drew do besides coming out with a generic monotone voice and telling everyone how good he is? Bleh. Not to mention the fact that he will have to compete with Rey, Big Show, Jomo and Cena if turned face. Good luck Drew.

Edit: I actually said this weeks ago on another thread discussing what wrestler should turn heel. I said Truth should turn heel (which happened) and be teamed with Drew to form a New Age Outlaws style tag team. I knew Truth would be able to get over on his own (which he is) and Drew would immensely benefit from it. I'm still convinced that would be Drew's best chance at getting over and eventually turn into a main event heel.

You must be a TNA Fan, and i really doubt that you have seen Drew McIntyre on SmackDown!!
If you think you are right, make a thread, R-Truth vs Drew McIntyre...

Cheap pop isnt the same thing as a pop by doing NOTHING!!!

Drew McIntyre top story was with freaking Teddy Long, who cares?
R-Truth was in the release list, and out of nowhere he has a push because Morrison fucked up his match at 'Mania with Trish!!
Truth isnt beyond McIntyre by any means, for me he didnt done anything to prove me otherwise!!
I hate his work in TNA, i enjoyed one thing, one thing only and it was his promo last monday and he was mocked with the What Chants (audience didnt understand what he said)

make a thread about Truth vs McIntyre c'mon boy!!

First off, I don't even know what TNA stands for or who any of the champions are in that company. Secondly you keep going on about backstage crap and cheap pops.

I'm pointing you to the crowd reaction to Drew this Friday night (or any night in his entire career) vs Truth these last two Monday's. Compare it. Stop ignoring that point. Truth got over in one night. Drew has never been over except for one spot in the Elimination Chamber. Address that point. Stop dodging your way out of it.

You don't care about his work with Teddy Long? Good. You shouldn't care because Drew didn't make you care. He FAILED with a capitol F. Just like every other angle he has been in. FAILED. Truth got the ball and now he is running with it. I don't see Drew in 30 minute television segments. Truth is though. Fell free to address that point as well.

This isn't directly a Drew vs Truth thread but it has everything to do with him. They are competing over the same spot in the company. So is Swagger (if he doesn't turn face tonight). So is ADR. So is Punk and Miz. Drew needs to get over all of them. Truth has a better chance as of right now based on what I'm seeing on television. CROWD REACTION. What are you basing your argument on? Your feelings? Get real.

The only argument you can possibly have now is to call me names and say R Truth sucks or something like a 12 year old. Go ahead, ignore the facts.

Look R-Truth is feuding with the most loved guy of WWE, John Morrison.
Second, he earns pop even in a funeral if he starts to chant "Whats Up", not for being a well known wrestler.

Drew McIntyre is 25 years old, R- Truth is 39, 14 years difference...
WWE isnt going to push a semi-retired wrestler, when they have The Miz, Alberto Del Rio and CM Punk!!

Drew McIntyre can turn face and he has improved a lot, both in ring and in mic...

R-Truth just turned heel, after John Morrison what do you think he will do?
Fighting John Cena? Ya right, keep dreaming!!
Drew McIntyre will be better than R-Truth in his entire career in three years...

He wont fight for a World Championship, R-Truth gimmick is awful, who cares about a "black" rapper? He doesnt stand for nothing, he doesnt have a personality and he is in pro-wrestling since 1997, he never accomplished nothing extraordinary!

R-Truth push was because of John Morrison behave, he is good, but he doesnt stand for money or ratings...
Next year i can see R-Truth working for TNA or a producer in WWE...

Have you seen SmackDown two weeks ago? Drew got a huge pop, HUGE, if it wasnt for Edge, he would have had the loudest pop.

Drew McIntyre vs Chris Masters - Jobber fight and he managed to get that reaction? Make R-Truth do that, and i will give up cheering for McIntyre..

The only thing that Truth has, is ring ability and he isnt the best, he is average at least.

WWE will use that last pop to capitalize and push Morrison back, and then Truth will go to Superstars or appearing once in a while to fight...
I'm sorry, but Santino gets one of the loudest reaction in every show, and he isnt getting a WWE Tittle shot, and Santino can wrestle better than Truth, he was an MMA fighter, so believe me...

McIntyre gimmick > Truth gimmick!!
McIntyre ring ability > Truth Ring Ability - Drew McIntyre vs Rey Mysterio 3 weeks ago and he sells very well, he can make a jobber look like gold!

I'm sorry, Truth can be a good heel, but he cant even get close to the top stars and as a face he totally sucked!!
McIntyre as a face... he can be good, if you read other posters, a lot of them say that Drew should become face, people want to like him, he just doesnt get a storyline, it isnt his fault!!

To be honest, in 3 years I see Drew future endeavored from the E. The problem is that he's just so...bland. His whole gimmick is that he's the "Chosen One" or "The Future of WWE." That could mean anything! It's such a weak cornerstone to build upon, and though McIntyre can look really brutal beating someone up, there are loads of guys that can do that, so nothing stands out.

Of course, last year McIntyre was shoving around Teddy Long because he was Mr. McMahon's anointed one. If that's the case, why not actually BRING Vince onscreen and have him be Drew's manager? I see McIntyre as a guy who can really benefit from having Vince build his heel status by having him at ringside. Managers these days seem to be reserved for the superheavyweight leviathans like Khali. Why not have the chairman help out some of the younger heels. As long as he doesn't constanly interfere on Drew's behalf and allow Drew to look like a threat on his own, the bump would help.

Haha you seem very hurt that your favorite superstar isn't getting pushed right away so don't be made truth is getting what Drew can't get which is a reaction. I like drew as u can see in my earlier post but he has to wait his turn but I think he has a US title coming his way soon. I just didn't understand how bashing R-Truth made you feel better about McIntyre and showed the tactics of a hater but don't cry to much because at the end of the day Drew will when more titles than truth when its all said and done. The irony drew debuts taking out truth and now who is currently the bigger star?

Wow is that what you think of black rappers. I would have though R-truth hurt someone in your family the way he affected you that bad it's like you personally hate him. U stand for a whiny kid that takes wrestling way to serious relax.

First it isnt a hate thread, I like R-Truth he is a great wrestler but not a great superstar in my view...
This thing started when a guy said that R-Truth will be multi-time world champion, in a thread about McIntyre, its like making a thread in RAW about SmackDown, its a stupid comment!!
And i gave reasons, if you can read, and i believe so, i gave reasons why McIntyre is better than R-Truth and will be better than him in his career!

And since you are with that great hopes about Truth, tell me why do you think Vince will give a World Tittle to a wrestler with 39 years that dont draw money???
I cant see that happen, since he didnt nothing historic on WWE (Christian won it, because he made his name for himself and dont even try to compare the likes of Christian to Truth)
McIntyre is fucking 25 years old, do you know what can he accomplish in 14 years at WWE?
Even Trent Barreta could be a world champion if he sticks in the WWE for 14 years!!
I'm sorry, but i can only see Truth in his last year now, because after Morrison his only option is getting after the tag tittles, which he cant win, its Show and Kane the tag champs, if Truth wins it, Show&Kane will look like Hornswoggle!!
So i cant see R-Truth as a main event, however Drew will be sooner or later, maybe later, but he will be!!

Drew McIntyre > R-Truth, and i gave reasons why, you dont have to accept it, but at least i explain my reasons and if Truth ever wins a world tittle, i will be the one to come here and apologize!!
And even if McIntyre doesnt get a world tittle in 3 years, i will also be here to apologize!!

The he stands for nothing comment seemed weird to me but I was saying relax you know truth isn't going to get the title but he should have a moment in the limelight which his now and like your aware Drew has a whole lot of a career left to win titles so whats the rush and people think he's getting fired if he doesn't get a belt so which I think is nonsense. I thought u were blaming truth for Drew's mishaps.

I am hoping that his draft to raw is the start of his climb back to where he was about a year ago. I am hoping him and Swagger team up, maybe win the titles, break up and then push Mcintyre to the upper mid card level. He can stay there for a while because you dont want to go straight from mid card to main event it wont work(see Dolph Ziggler), have him go to the main event gradually(see Miz) and than he will be successful.
