I would personally like to thank Andy Reid

WZCW's Living Legend
This is about a day late...but seriously.

Whatever inspired him to make Vick the starter from here on out...I am extremely grateful for it. My reasons are threefold:

1) I have always been a Michael Vick fan...he just...he puts my but in the seat.
2) As a result, I like watching him succeed, and in order for him to be successful, he needs to be on the field.
3) I picked him up off of waivers after Week 1, and I need him playing so that I'm not forced to start Romo week.

This makes the Eagles a legitimate contender in a wounded NFC East. Yes...Michael Vick playing as only Michael Vick can literally pulled the Eagles from a guaranteed last place finish in the division.

What do you folks think of this move?

I actually love the move, Michael Vick looked pretty good so far, he played a mistake free game for the most part, and looks to be a more balanced QB than he ever was before. I know Kolb would've started, but if it aint broke don't fix it, you can always throw Kolb in if Vicks performance goes on the decline.

What made Reid make the change is the easiest part of the equation. Michael Vick through 6 quarters has played about 10 times better then Kevin Kolb has ever played (including the games he played last year, which were against bad defenses).

Kevin Kolb is nothing special as a QB, and regardless of how someone feels about him, Michael Vick is a VERY special player. I personally have always been a fan of his ability, and since he's been out of prison I have actually become a fan of the person as well. He has proven thus far that he can stay out of trouble, and of all the athletes to get in trouble with the law (there's a shit-ton of them, including a few on my Jets), he's been the only one to truly pay for his crimes.

I have been celebrating the move ever since it happened. I called for the Eagles to start Vick Week 1, and vowed to not root for them until they made the change. When they were forced to make the change, I started pulling for them, and seeing Vick play as well as he has is really one of the more heart wrenching stories of the season.

Andy Reid's job is to win football games. It isn't to play the most morally/ethically upstanding individual, its to play the guy that gives the Eagles the best chance to win each week. Personally, I can't stand Michael Vick. Anyone who thinks raising dogs to kill each other for his amusement is a good idea is seriously fucked up in my mind, and I will never, ever root for Vick. I enjoyed him in Atlanta. I despise him now, because of the off field issues.

However, from a business standpoint, taking personal emotion out of the equation, Andy Reid made the right decision. Had Kolb played instead of Vick (assume he was healthy) do the Eagles beat the Lions? Hell no. Philadelphia won that game because Vick was able to escape pressure inside the pocket, because of his legs. His mobility bought him time to find receivers. The Lions actually put on good defensive pressure, and with a normal-mobility QB, would have won that game, because of loss in time available. Kolb isn't able to buy time by escaping the pressure from the DL and DEs like that. Nor does he have Vick's rocket arm. Vick is a guy who has won games in the past. Kolb hasn't done shit. Ultimately, Reid went with the proven commodity over the unproven noob. I don't give a shit about McNabb being traded specifically to give Kolb a chance, Vick gives the Eagles a better chance at winning, period. Sorry Kevin, but you will be riding the bench for longer. The NFL is impatient.

I believe this will come back to bite Reid in the ass in the end. He traded away McNabb because he believed in Kevin Kolb. He said Monday that Kolb was his starter and changed his mind the next day. I don't take that much stock into Vick's perfomance against the Lions because it was against the Lions. What happens if Vick has two or three bad games in a row? Is he really going to go back to Kolb after telling him he's the starter one day and not the next?

Michael Vick, who had not started a game in years and was expecting to ride the pine all season, stepped in and competed at a VERY high level when his team was already down against a #1 defense in Green Bay.

The he passed...yes, passed...all day against the Lions. Dude didn't run the ball for more than 40 yards. And they were up pretty big against the Lions and the Philly D let them get back in it.

I'm not ready to crown Vick...but I'm freaking way excited...particularly because I don't have to lay my fantasy hopes and dreams on the back of Tony Romo every week.

I managed to pick up Vick in one of the WZ fantasy leagues too, the second league I do believe.Obviously I'm not a selfish mother fucker who is just thinking about his fantasy league though.

Overall I'm very happy for Michael Vick, as I for one feel he got screwed over, and they obviously tried to make an example out of Vick, making him out to be some kind of demonic dog hater.

While I don't condone dog fighting, I do understand that it is a very common practice in the south and all across America for that matter. Vick could have easily lost it and shut it down during all that time in jail for such tacky charges, but clearly he grew mentally stronger, and didn't lose an ounce of his on field ability. He's clearly taken advantage of every opportunity presented to him and I don't feel he's going to let this opportunity slip through his hands either.

After getting a first hand look at Jacksonville last week during my Charger game I feel Vick will continue his dominance through the air, and on the ground. Hopefully after another strong performance this weekend he will be able to cement his spot as the eagles starting QB and continue on with his great season. As I truly believe he deserves it, after being put through so much adversity, and coming out on top stronger than he was before is truly remarkable and I really hope he keeps it up as I'm sure he will.

This can only be looked at as a good move. I don't care about what he did and blah blah blah, that has nothing to do with him playing now. What I do know is that the Eagles O line is complete shit. Would you want your franchise QB, who is coming off a concussion, playing behind them? I don't think so. The fact is Michael Vick has the mobility to get out of trouble the way Kolb can't. Vick got sacked I believe 6 times against the Lions. Imagine how many times Kolb would have been hit and sacked that game.

And the facts are that while Vick has that element of elusiveness to him, he has also shown that he is more accurate than ever. That was something that was lacking when he was with the Falcons. He never really had that great accuracy to make him one of the top in the NFL. Now, its only been one game so no reason to get too excited, but Vick is playing at ahigh level, and gives the Eagles the best chance to win. So you have to go with him.

Vick has to be the starter for the Birds at this time. People can say all they want about Kolb being the "future" of this team, but why can't Vick be that same future? Vick is ony 4 years older and hasn't been put through the physical punishment most players of his age have because of his time off. He clearly is still in great shape and looked to be in top form the way he was moving in and out of the pocket when it collapsed against the Lions. I think Reid and the front office are going to use the next few weeks with Vick at quarterback to seriously evaluate whether or not they should open up the options of signing him to an extension and possibly cutting ties with Kolb with teams like the Browns already contacting the Eagles for a possible deal. If that were to be the case, I definitely see Philly drafting a QB in one of the first two rounds next season.

I've always been a Vick fan and he looks better then ever. He still has the 2007 Michael Vick athleticism and play making ability but he is also a much better passer right now then he was before his hiatus from the NFL. I never liked Kevin Kolb and didn't think he would be anything special so I thought trading McNabb was a horrible move, but that move can be salvaged if Vick continues to play like he has the last couple weeks. Very good move by Andy Reid.

Sure, he made the right decision at this point, starting the clearly better QB. Kolb looked pathetic against Green Bay before he got KO'd and has done nothing at all yet to prove he can be even a capable QB in the NFL. Vick has proven that he can be a playmaker and has shown that he still has it.

However, this doesn't mean that Reid and the Eagles didn't fuck up. If they were really all about starting their best QB, they wouldn't have traded McNabb before the season. Wasn't the whole point of trading your best QB to prepare for the future that you were actually going to give your young guy a shot? If they aren't starting Kolb, they might as well have not traded McNabb in the first place. It's just silly.

I would imagine that Andy Reid and company would suggest that they thought Kolb was better than McNabb in terms of being the starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles. There was a lot of talk about how Donovan "lost the locker room" and that Kolb had much more support of his teammates, particularly the young guys.

They may have thought that, but it was clearly a mistake. I'd rather have a guy that's taken my team to the NFC Championship 5 times and been a high end starter for years in the NFL then a completely unproven and not overly talented guy.

They did whatever they could do to try and rationalize it at the time, but if the reason they did it was because they truly thought they'd win more games with Kevin Kolb than Donavon McNabb this year, then they have no common sense whatsoever.

Disarray,

If Donovan was not well-liked in the locker room, then how effective was the team going to be? It's all about team chemistry. If your leader isn't well-liked, the skill players aren't going to play as hard for him. While Donovan might look more talented on paper and on the field than Kolb, Donovan McNabb isn't going to single-handedly lead them a Super Bowl win. Remember when they cut T.O.? Yeah, because he was a locker room distraction and no one liked him. Would they have been more talented if their #1 receiver wasn't Todd Pinkston? Yes...they would have been. But obviously, it wasn't worth it to keep him.

I haven't heard anything about McNabb being disliked, it was more about a lot of players, especially younger ones, getting behind Kolb. It wasn't like McNabb was completely hated in the locker room and he certainly isn't comparable to TO in that sense, it was just that a lot of the guys thought that Kolb was the better option moving forward, and apparently Reid and the front office felt that way too.

But the thing is, if you're all about winning this year, then you keep McNabb for one more season, which was the last of his contract, I believe. If you're about building for the future and going with the best liked guy in the locker room, then you go with Kolb.

The only way you go with Vick is if you realized you messed up previously and are forced to make a change.
