How I Met Your Mother

He got the role after playing such a great womanizing jerk on Harold and Kumar goto white castle. It just proves how much of a great actor he is that he can do that even though he's not attracted to women.

Yeah I can sure give him props for that. He was having that role for years also(7 years).

Also you are saying he has come out of the closet before he got the role right?

Not so clear on when exactly he did that but it had to be before the first Harold and Kumar came out.

Are you 100% positive on that?

Where could i read just about this? I'm really interested to know.

is there any good sources that cover this issue? Maybe some interview or something?

I have been told that more focus is on Barney as the series' go on, and that he becomes funnier and funnier. Is this true?

Barney does get funnier and funnier, and the show does build around him a lot more, but it doesn't shift to him primarily. It's still all about Ted in the long run.

Also, to those wondering exactly when NPH came out: http://www.people.com/people/article/0,26334,1554852,00.html

November of 2006.

All caught up on the 7th season now, and here are my thoughts.

I hate to say it, but I just don't care about Marshall and Lily anymore. Jason Segal plays his character wonderfully and is probably the funniest person on the show at times, but the character of Lily Aldrin irritates me to no end. I don't care about anything she says or does and it negatively effects Marshall since their so intertwined. I don't care how much they move, until that baby comes and Lily starts showing some likable characteristics, I don't care what's going on with them.

The "Broath" episode was probably one of the worst episodes in the series to me. The whole prank thing felt so forced and contrived, ridiculous beyond belief. However, the dynamic between Quinn and Barney is pretty realistic. It makes total sense that Barney would fall for a stripper and seeing him exhibit signs of a normal male is sort of refreshing. Nobody would really be excited to know that their girlfriend is out making money by showing off the goods to other guys.

Also, I'm totally sure that Quinn is the one Barney is getting married to. It makes sense; they moved in together awfully fast, they said I love you pretty fast, it's totally plausible that they will end up getting married quickly. It fits in with the, "I will quit stripping if I get married" thing that Quinn said too. However, I'm not convinced that the wedding will go off without a hitch. I have a feeling that at the end of the episode, Barney will end up with Robin.

The Trilogy episode was masterfully done. Lots of laughs, excellent story progression.

All in all, it's been a great season so far. I haven't been this invested in a sitcom in years.

Good episode last night.

I'm glad they finally went back to the casino scene with Barney and Marshall (and the Ducky tie). I was starting to think that the writers thought we would forget about it. Also, Marshall smoked a cigarette and in season 5, future Ted told us that Marshall smoked his last cigarette the day his child was born.

Quinn left Barney and said she needed "time to think" while Robin was flustered when Ted wanted to talk to her and said it really wasn't a good time.

What I think happened is that Robin left a voicemail on Barney's phone telling him that she loves him and still has feelings for him. That's why Barney had the weird look on his face after listening to his voicemail (not because Lilly said she was going into labor but because off Robin).

It could just be that Robin was frantic because she was going over to Lilly's to take Lilly to the hospital for the baby, but I think it's something to do with Barney.

The finale, will be in two weeks (1 hour long, Magician's Code parts 1 and 2).

We know we'll see Barney's bride but will we see The Mother? Also, could they pull a fast one on us and have the bride end up being some random girl that Barney is scamming as a rebound after Quinn (if she does break up with him)?

Finally, remember that the bride asks to see Ted shortly before the wedding ceremony. Maybe that's " a good time" for Robin to finally talk to Ted. I dunno, just a thought but I'm still sticking with Robin as the bride.

Should be fun to see how this plays out and to see if we see the mother at all or just the ominous yellow umbrella.

Now that I am FINALLY completely caught up (after never having watched before, I started watching it from the very beginning on Netflix streaming about 2 months ago, and finding alternative methods to watch this season up through episode 21) I can start commenting on this show...

No way that Barney gets married in the season finale. I think the bride is Quinn, but she is going to leave him at the altar, or Barney is going to get cold feet, either way the wedding isn't going to happen. this pretty much guarantees that season 8 will see more Barney/Robin romantic tension, and the whole Ted getting around to meeting "mother" will probably come to it's inevitable conclusion. It kind of has to. Season 8 will be take place in 2012-2013, and future Ted exists in 2030. His children look to be in their mid-teens, with the daughter maybe 16ish, and the son about 14. Now, if you start at 2030 and backtrack, the daughter couldn't have been born any later than 2014, which means they have only a very limited time left chronologically for Ted to meet his wife, fall in love, get married, and get pregnant. The clock is ticking. My prediction: We will either meet the Mrs. in a few weeks during the season 7 finale, or very early in season 8.

The producers already confirmed that Ted definitely meets the mother for the first time, at the wedding. Whether or not they show it to us in the episode or just allude to it is up in the air. Also, they've only confirmed that he meets her, they have not confirmed any more than that. For all we know, he just says a few words or is introduced to her and that's it but they actually talk and go on a date and hit it off at a later time.

I do think there's a possibility that Barney gets left at the altar. In fact, the more I think about it, the more that seems likely.

But will we KNOW it's her, or will they have him meet a few different women at the wedding, so that fans have to guess which one is her? Will it be a random thing, or will it be like with Victoria, where there was an instant thunderbolt between them (kinda bummed that she won't be the mother, she was awesome). I am worried that they will chicken out and have him meet a number of women there, so we STILL won't know, lol. But, the rest of it remains sound logically...this story is rapidly approaching it's climax.

I think they'll take the "several women" approach during the parts of the wedding they show, not giving us any clear hints of which one is the mother then at the very end, they'll show one of the women outside with the yellow umbrella blocking her face so we're left with the entire summer to guess which one the mother was.

I agree with your prediction about Quinn. I also want the woman that calls Ted to see the bride to actually be Doppleganger Lily the stripper, not actual Lily.

Based on the Star Wars Trilogy it looks like the daughter is born in 2015 or late 2014 at the earliest. That baby he was holding was pretty young.

If Robin left Barney at the Wedding for Ted, I think that would ruin the group dynamic. No man could still be friends with a bride who leaves him. I thought a while back they said Ted's wife was in the classroom as he was teaching. If it was Robin wouldn't they have mentioned she was there?

I still think the group dynamic is still weird. I didn't really like the whole Barney/Robin relationship because they were basically throwing it Ted's face back in season five and bit of this season. Part of me still doesn't like Robin as a character and I was hoping when Ted alluded to them addressing how weird it is between him/Robin/Barney that they would be some kind of drastic change that would actually make us care but it looks like they are just going back to the exact same thing the last two years.

I'm not saying that Robin will leave Barney for Ted. I'm saying on the wedding day, Robin (Barney's bride) will finally talk to Ted about her true feelings. Wasn't there an episode in season 5 or 6 where Future Ted tells the kids that things never worked out the way he wanted with Robin because of Barney but "I'll get to that?" There was something like that. He mentioned something about his relationship with Robin and Barney

Couple of good ideas in here. I especially like the one where the voicemail we see Barney listening to is actually from Robin confessing her love and where Ted meets an array of women only to have the yellow umbrella cover her at the end.

Also in regards to Barney not going through with it and getting cold feet. I think the producers said at the start of the season that he does go through with it. and "One relationship starts, whilst another one begins" Guess we'll find out in a few weeks

Anywho I was wondering if anyone had seen the pics from the final episode? There's a particular one which takes my interest

Few questions. Who is the second person in the photo? Is that in Robin's bedroom or elsewhere? What kind of reaction is that from Robin? Shock?

Good find with that picture! I have not seen it yet. My guess is that it is either Ted or Barney. Looks like the person is wearing dress shoes making the obvious choice, Barney. That would fit in with my theory that Robin left a voicemail for Barney confessing her love and so he surprised her in bed at some point.

The first person that came to mind was Kal Penn. Maybe he pops back in and he has changed his mind on the stance of their breakup. I can't see it being Barney as the person in the photo is wearing blue jeans. The setup looks similar to Marshall and Lily's apartment in what use to be Ted's room, so there is that to hang on. Either way I'm pretty excited for the season finale. I'm hoping it isn't Robin and Barney as I'm just unsure about that and that would be a stab right in the chest to Ted. I can't see Barney doing it. I'm pulling for Quinn or even Nora (who returns and rekindles with Barney).

The bride is going to be either Quinn or Robin, IMO. I just can't see it being Nora (although that would be surprise).

The episode description for "Magician's Code parts 1 and 2" talks about flashbacks to the lives of Barney, Quinn, and Robin. So, that leads me to believe that Quinn and Robin are both somehow central figures to the episode and the wedding itself. Also, I wonder if the episode name "Magician's code" means anything? The magician's code is the code among magicians to never reveal how they do a trick or illusiion. Could Barney be pulling some sort of trick or scam at his own wedding? Pulling a trick on random girl just to bed her?

Should be interesting. I think I"m more interested in The Mother and what they reveal and don't reveal, than who Barney's bride is. Rest assured, we'll see the yellow umbrella (as it was raining on Barney's wedding day) but who knows if we'll see more than that?

Here's a little squib that Carter Bays provided to Entertainment Weekly:

‘HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER’: ITS ODD ‘BREAKING BAD’ CONNECTION
What on Earth could How I Met Your Mother have in common with Breaking Bad? A lot, hopes executive producer — and self-described “big fan” of the show — Carter Bays.

“I think that’s on a whole other level and it’s incredible. And what I like about this [past] season especially was that you didn’t really realize the journey you were watching until the last episode. And I feel like this season, we [also] aimed for that,” he says. “Who knows if we hit that mark, but there’s a journey that’s been going on, especially for Ted. And I think it’s been a little subtle this season, but it resolves nicely at the end of the finale.” Don’t worry, he assures, half of Ted’s face doesn’t get blown off. But our minds, however, will be blown.

“We sort of return to the bookend nature of the wedding. That comes in half way through the finale. We return to the future wedding,” he says. “The finale was initially conceived as two episodes, and we put them together because we felt there’s a nice flow to it.” And just as many surprises as when we first saw it.

“It goes to some interesting places. There are some surprises that pop up over the course of the hour. Some old faces reappear, some new faces appear — and some things will be irrevocably changed on the show.”

Nice article on the interview SDS1582.

I'm just wondering who the new and old faces will be. We can assume that the new faces could possibly be the Mother but that's not for certain. But the old faces, well that could be anyone really. There have been any number of characters who have had significant roles in this show Victoria, Nora, Kevin, Don, Zoe, Stella.

Does anyone think these "old" faces are gonna have a significant input into the outcome of this finale or are they just going to be playing cameo roles.

I think we will see the return of Don and Kevin at the end of the episode, just to start another love triangle with Robin for next season. And we will see Barney marry Quinn without any problems.

I agree with you on the old faces, but I also think that Barney's father will be back, likely James (Barney's half brother). I think there's a small chance that Cindy might somehow return (don't forget, she is or was the mother's roommate).

As for the new faces, the main one of course, is probably the mother in some capacity. As I have said before, I think the mother is Barney's half sister, Carly. I think we might meet Carly (interestlingly, the only family member of Barney's that has been mentioned on the show but never introduced; makes me very suspciious that she is the mother).

Another possible new face could be a completely different woman that Barney marries AND also a new love interest for Ted. Remember, he meets the mother at the wedding, doesn't mean he immediately starts dating her right after that.

The show isn't on TV tonight. God That sucks, really wanted to see the story continued.

Yes...but you get a full hour next week Monday, so that's gotta make up for it, right? Unfortunately, then it's no more until fall. Sadness.

It does seem rather suspicious, doesn't it? We have gotten episodes about Barney's brother, mother, father, Bob Barker, etc...yet they have deliberately ignored Carly...even with Marshall's siblings, you have actually seen them in an episode or two. Yet, Carly has been completely absent. However, it wouldn't make a whole lot of sense for Barney to be getting married without Carly at the wedding, would it? I know I would find it hard to believe that Carly would skip out on her brother's wedding, so it seems likely that she would almost have to be introduced at that point...coincidence?

Yeah. Probably. If Mrs. Mosby is just Barney's sister, than all the goobledygook about fate and destiny and all that is turned into a matter of sheer convenience. Barney is one of his best friends, it stands to reason that at some point Ted would meet his sister Carly anyway, without 8 seasons of fate and destiny. I think Carly was put in there as a deliberate red herring for people to speculate on.

Good point about the Red Herring. However, it all seems to add up but isn't blatantly obvious to the casual fan. Most fans probably don't even remember that Barney has a half sister (father's side). The thing that does it for me is that Barney's dad mentioned that she's a university student living in New York (what a coincidence). Remember, Future Ted said that the mother was in his class the day he taught his first class... hmmm.... Also, I'd have to go back and re-watch but I think Barney's father seemed to imply that Barney has never met his half-sister before. So, I could see a scenario where Barney's dad shows up at the wedding with Carly ,and Barney and Carly (and Ted) meet for the first time.

There is one episode where Ted tries to be evil Ted. He goes out to a club with Barney puts drinks on another guy's tab and hooks up with a hot married woman. He reveals that the mother saw him and was there that night. That means Barney could have hit on his half-sister that night as well. Ewww.

I was pissed too that it was not on this week. I was really looking forward to the finale tonight but didn't pay any attention the TV listings. Oh well, something to look forward to for next week.

Hey! It's Paul Heyman.

One thing to remember, and based on some of the hints we have gotten the finale this will be true, is that the wedding takes place in the future. So anything they show us in the finale in the "current" timeline could be different than what happens at the wedding. Also, they may not show us the entire wedding, just enough of it to keep us happy but to also leave open more questions, like the identity of the mother so that in the series finale (presumably next year) they can go back to the wedding and reveal the mother. Season 8, can fill in the time period between tonight's episode and the wedding.

In other words, Barney could be engaged to Quinn in the current storyline but actually end up marrying Robin (and they could show us how it all happened, next season)/
