Guardians of the Galaxy

Also...

The gave us Thanos in the movie for a good bit of time. That was something I was expecting for a post-credits scene for this movie, or something dealing with Ultron. So, the fun gag of Howard the Duck was more than fine in my eyes.

I did not know Thanos was played by Josh Brolin 'till I looked it up. I can't tell if hes full cgi or not.

I'm hopping on the bandwagon late. I had very high expectations for this movie given the hype surrounding it, and I was not disappointed. Funny, charming, great action sequences, and fantastic visuals all made this into one of the most thoroughly enjoyable moviegoing for me, superhero movie or not. The acting was excellent all around, and Ronin was one of the best villains I've seen in a Marvel movie in quite some time.

My favorite part of the movie was actually a Batista line:

When they're sitting in a circle, talking about their plan, and Batista asks when they established (something, I can't remember what) and Quill says, "We established that like, three seconds ago!" and Batista nonchalantly replies, "I wasn't listening then, I was thinking about something else." Had me in stitches.

Batista was arguably the funniest character in the movie. His bit when he calls the team his friends. especially Gamora, laughing maniacally when they crash into the Dark Aster, his drunk fight with Rocket and when Quill gets his cassette player.

"Surely what he searches for is of great value. What is it?"

See's it.

"You are an imbecil!"

Just caught it. Very fun movie. Captured the spirit of a comic book very well and shows that not every comic book/superhero movie need to be brooding grim Dark Knight reboot to be a good movie in this day and age. Batista's character and Rocket Raccoon were the funniest. Loved the I have a plan scene with all 5 of the guardians.

The Howard the Duck thing was very hit and miss. Most people don't even know who that character is and were left with wtf questions. But it fits into the tone of the movie as a being a comedic space opera and a nice Easter Egg for those familiar with the character.

I think the success of Marvel movies is that they don't take themselves too seriously. People watch them to have a fun show. Every movie feels like a Sunday morning cartoon where the plot involves the world being in peril but the heroes always save the day in the end. Basically a Michael Bay movie without the nonsense and with a decent script. I hope the franchise continue on this comedic route to be an alternative to the likes of Star Wars and Star Trek in the same genre.

I loved the movie; my girlfriend took me on my birthday the other day. Can anyone point me to where I should start if I wanted to read the comics?

I don't follow the comics but from what I read elsewhere you can start with the rebooted version from 2013 that has Iron Man in it.
