Grand Slam Champion

Actually The Intercontinental Championship represented the unification of the WWF North American Championship, Held by Pat Paterson, and the [imaginary] "WWF South American Championship" in a [equally imaginary] "tournament in Rio de Janeiro". Thus the "Intercontinental" means that it represents both the North and South American continents. Wouldn't the World Title be the one that represent all seven continents?

I think it depends on how literally you take the wording. As much as I despise Santino Marella, he gave a really good line during his second run as Intercontinental Champion, where he said "This title means that I am the champion of all land-masses that rise above sea level!", which, technically, would be correct.

So, if you want to continue with the exact wording like that, the "World" champion is the champion of all land-masses as well as the oceans.
