Go Green Ranger Go! Official HGR Thread

Real quick note on the Hogan anthology... The guest hosts for this set are really annoying. Mean Gene and Jimmy Hart may be two of the greatest icons in the history of wrestling, but I don't think they could pay me enough to believe they give a shit about the things they're saying. These guys are selling me on Hogan's career worse than Big Andy sold that Stunner to Steve Austin last year...

Do you like Cena?

Do I like John Cena...? That's an interesting question that I've been asking myself a lot more lately. He's one of the few huge names in the industry that I've been able to follow from DAY 1 of his career, so I've certainly followed him over the years. And I will say that on the whole I've loved his career, without a doubt. The original Edge/Cena feud is one of my all-time wrestling rivalries, and it re-sparked my interest at a time I was sort of fading out.

When John Cena feuded with the Rock all of last year, regardless of the fact that I was a HUGE Rock fan during his prime, I backed John Cena. I thought he brought it much more to that feud, and Cena really sold me on WrestleMania 28. That moment Edge came to the ring to tell Cena he needed to take things more seriously is one the more memorable things that have happened in recent years.

Cena provides memories, both good and bad that we'll probably never forget. I respect the hell out of him, even though that statement has become more cliche than lowering a shoulder following an Irish Whip. But right now, do I like John Cena? No. I loved him again around WrestleMania, and was extremely excited going into that match. His loss isn't what ruined it for me either. Ironically I started losing my thirst for Cena when he started winning again - I know, ridiculous. I was in attendance at Extreme Rules this year, and I watched Brock Lesnar literally break Cena's body. Normally when Cena "hulks up" a crowd goes crazy. This time it was just ridiculous. I think the collect "sigh" in the arena was more due to Cena becoming "business as usual" once more...

I like Cena when he's interesting. Running through the roster and being WWE Champion used to be interesting to me! But I've watched him for so long that another high profile win just means nothing. Now I'm more interested in the story he can tell. Money in the Bank was ruined for me because of a CEna win. Extreme Rules sure as hell killed the story because of a Cena win. I don't hate John Cena, I'm just incredibly bored by what he does about 90% of the time. But, unlike a lot of people, I am always willing to get him another shot if I feel he's being taken in a fun creative direction. I have to watch every week anyways, I might as well do my best to try and enjoy him...

I think HGR has the most recognizable haircut of all the main page writers. If it wasn't for the fact that Isenberg looks like Seth Rogen/Milenko and Mark Madden is a fat turd, he would be the most recognizable guy there

This puts me in an awkward position due to my "anyone that doesn't like Hogan but loves Cena is not smart" belief system.
I'm coming around on Hogan. I wasn't alive during the 80's, making it really difficult to fully experience the hype of Hulkamania. At least I'm trying...

Hi, friend.
This is where it starts, people.

And this is where it will inevitably end:

This is an idea I've been toying with for a Book This! mini-series for about a month now, and I thought I would pitch it to you, the other crazy people.

In 2007 Chris Benoit was found guilty of murdering his wife and son, before himself committing suicide. It was later revealed that a long history of concussions had led to Benoit experience severe dementia, likely leading to the mental break that casued this tragedy.

What if, in light of this incident and taking into account the laundry list of other wrestlers who had died suddenly or committed suicide, the US Congress passed a bill outlawing professional wrestling within the United States?

I've been thinking about it a lot, and through some research I think had Congress suggested this the perfect storm was there to potentially pass such a thing. The industry was painted in such a negative light at that point, following the deaths of Eddie Guerrero and so many others. Cheers of recklessness, drug addiction, and apathy for safe working conditions were being thrown around like candy at a parade. Normally, the US' Republican party and right-wingers would be against such a bill, but nearing the end of 2007 the party was desperate to save face and attract all sides as Obama looked poised to take the upcoming election. Linda McMahon was also readying her bid for the Connecticut Board of Education, effectively shutting her lips on the matter if she planned to move forward in politics at all.

I'm not saying it would have happened, nor is that the point of this thread, but the potential was definitely there at the time. The question then becomes, if such a bill were to be passed banning "sports entertainment" from the United States, how would the industry move forward? Would we see a surge in the UK and other European nations, as well as Japan? Or would most of the big names from the WWE and/or TNA find it too difficult to relocate their families, and end up changing careers?

Given that the WWE would have had at least a year before a passed bill (which would have taken months, if not longer on its own) to go into effect, it's safe to say they could have put on WrestleMania 24 before being shut down. How do you think the WWE would want to go out?

Blah.

Killam kinda looks like me in his new main page photo. I've been told by Theo that I look like his little brother. That means Killam looks kinda like Theo's little brother and that makes him ok with me

Thanks? I think?

I really don't need validation, I just want people like SNS to go the fuck away and stop wasting his life intentionally trying to make mine more miserable. He's a fucking parasite, and he's ruining what little time I actually get to spend on here.

Clever

You brought everything that I have said upon yourself. It is pathetic when people fail to see flaw in their own actions and just assume they are attacked for no reason. Until you finally grow enough as a person to realize this is your way, a small amount of me will pity you.

I wasn't trying to be clever. There wasn't any hidden meaning behind the statement; I really do want you to go away.

Great. You win. You've humbled me and shown me the error of my ways, or some shit. Now go away.

If you keep up this attitude I can't. I am going to have to follow you around and point out all of your flaws until you change them. That's what a good mentor does.

I think it's cute that you believe you could actually mentor me. If I wanted help becoming a better poster, I'd ask somebody like Lee. Or Naitch. D-Man. Crock. Hell, even the bastard child of Haiku Hogan and Dagger would help me more. If I wanted somebody to learn from as a critic, I'd ask KB. If I wanted to be swift as the coursing river, and mysterious as the dark side of the moon, I'd ask Coco.

But as I don't want help hating everything about myself, and being a general nuisance to people that are trying to enjoy their time here, I'm not asking for your help. Good day, sir.
