Glass Ass: The OFFICIAL JGlass Thread

I skipped most of Raw and Smackdown (just like I have for the past few weeks now). I can't imagine Extreme Rules will suddenly be any better. TNA's been better again lately, but neither is great.

Oh, I'll probably still watch too, I'm just not very excited about it. I do pray to the wrestling gods that after Extreme Rules I never have to see Brock vs. Triple H ever again.

Seriously. I had enough of Brock/Trips after Summerslam. I think the match I'm most "excited" about is Show/Orton and that is only because I've been on an Orton kick for some reason as of late.

Probably because Orton has been bringing the house down since Mania, despite what that New Jersey Raw crowd had to say about him.

I'm not really excited for any of these matches, though I suppose Cena/Ryback could be decent if Cena is healthy. And Triple H vs. Lesnar will be good, but seriously, let's see something else please. Lesnar has been back for a year and he's had two different opponents.

I watched most of the last episode of Impact this morning, D'Lo is fucking terrible, & I think the World Title picture would be more interesting if they were building toward a AJ/Angle/Bully Ray triple threat title at the next PPV instead of Sting/Bully Ray, though I remember hearing that AJ lost some match & now can't compete for the World title for a year or some nonsense, which of course would mean my idea wouldn't be able to work. Aries & Roode are really the best thing going in TNA right now based on what I saw.

Smackdown actually has been entertaining the last couple of weeks. And at least in the UK and Ireland version they've cut back on recaps a little. Impact has been "eh" but Thursday's episode was good. I've not enjoyed Bully Ray's reign at all, I find myself missing Jeff Hardy and Ace's and 8's need a kick in the ass again. These have all came together to get me back into ROH a lot more lately who this year have grasped the concept of a consistently entertaining wrestling show. ROH Wrestling, NXT Wrestling and Japan keep me going right now.

I just watched "Barton Fink." The title comes from the main character's name; he is the guy that stares at you uneasily every time Sam posts. I hope these words (Sam, Barton Fink, movie, etc.) arrest the attention of Sam.

I didn't deduce any underlying messages or themes in the film; I just understood and followed the superficial storyline. If the director intended to have deep, alternate meanings and interpretations, then I'm just missing them. Eraser Head was even easier to ascertain the possible meanings. With "Barton Fink," however, I don't get it.

What did you get from the film, Sam? Did you extract anything meaningful? Maybe the director intentionally made it ambiguous and wanted the audience to draw their own interpretations. I did enjoy the movie, I just don't understand it.

This is perhaps a little presumptuous of me to believe you have a good understanding of the movie based upon your choice to have the character featured in your avatar. I'm sure you like the movie, though, and understand it. I'm curious as to why you chose this character for your avatar. Barton Fink is a writer that wants to appease the middle-class, common man. Sam, you have a professed expertise in writing, so I wonder if you, to an extent, sympathize with the charterer. I might be off-base here, but I'm just trying to understand why Barton Fink is in your avatar. The penchant for writing thing is the most obvious parallel between you and the character in the film. You probably just have Barton Fink in your avatar because you like the movie. That would make sense.

So, what do you have to offer me Sam? Any commentary on the movie? Did anyone else watch the movie? Maybe I should give it another viewing and try to extrapolate my own theories and interpretations. I don't know.

This will not go well with the fluidity of the post, but I thought of something else that I wanted to say. The ending scene was nice. I didn't completely get it, but it was nice. Poetic, I guess.

Looks like I scared him off.

As if. I was just in and out of things all day yesterday, and while I was probably showing up online for most of the day yesterday, that's probably because I just left my laptop open and WZ up.

That said, I did see that post, and I almost responded to it, but I had nothing witty to say so I didn't. I almost watched Hyde Park on Hudson yesterday, but passed on it. It got some pretty bad reviews, but Roger Ebert liked it, and he's generally my go to guy, even if he's dead.

Maybe I'll give Last Watch a watch this week.

Since we're talking about movies now, I watched The Perks Of Being A Wallflower last night, good flick overall, one of the better "surviving high school" movies I've seen in a long time.

Saw it Thanksgiving weekend and enjoyed it thoroughly, even read the book afterwards which I liked the better. My only complaint from the promotion of the film is that it made it seem like Emma Watson was the main character and most important person of the film, probably because she was more famous then the other two actors but still.

Have you ever seen the Cape Fear remake with Robert De Niro and Nick Nolte, Jglass?

I have not. Has Scorsese and DeNiro teaming up though, so how bad can it be?

High school has changed a lot since the 90s, hasn't it?

Actually, I really can't make fun of you (too much) considering I haven't been in high school in half a decade and my interaction with high school students is already perplexing. I didn't realize people actually used "yolo" in everyday speech.

One of my favorite De Niro Scorsese collaborations. De Niro plays this deranged convict and rapist with a thick southern accent. Max (De Niro) was just released from jail, and upon his release, he uses the system to get revenge on Nolte's character (the former public defender, who used dirty tactics to throw De Niro in jail) and his family. Not as good as the more popular and praised De Niro/Scorsese films, but still enjoyable. Oh, and if you ever decide to watch it, I promise you the main score will be stuck in your head for days.

Speaking of Scorsese/De Niro, any thoughts on the duo of Scorsese/DiCaprio? I still love Gangs Of New York, but Daniel Day Lewis stole the show in that one. I didn't have a big problem with The Aviator, and I enjoyed Shutter Island......until the ending. :disappointed:

Gangs of New York is an extraordinarily well done film that gets better every time I see it. Of course Daniel Day Lewis steals the show, as he is wont to do, but DiCaprio did a fine job as well. It's one of the few films I've seen DiCaprio in where I manage to forget who it is playing the role and only see the character. That's not a knock on DiCaprio, most major actors suffer from that sort of thing,

I liked Shutter Island, even if the ending was a somewhat obvious twist, and thought DiCaprio was pretty decent in that. I doubt DiCaprio will ever be able to play muse to Scorsese like De Niro could, but he's certainly a more than suitable replacement.

Can't comment on The Aviator as I haven't seen it. Heard I don't have to.
