Glass Ass: The OFFICIAL JGlass Thread

I've decided to get into the Assassin's Creed series and try to finish it up before Assassin's Creed 3 comes out. I was watching my roommate play and the game just looks so ridiculously badass, and it's going to be even more badass when you get to kill Benedict Arnold and fuck up Lord North and what not.

Well given your record with ME I would say you have a chance, though there are 4 games to beat in like 9 days. Still a fun series with a lot of history.

On another note, I was reading some deleted pages from the AvX series and there was one where The Phoenix Five went to Avengers Mansion to talk to Tony Stark. The few members who were actually there, Hulk being the most prominent, took it as a threat. Colossus and Magik got into an argument, which was supposed to lead to this sweet brawl between the Colossus and Hulk all over town, but they had to take it out because during the argument Hulk told Colossus "You need to talk some sense into your sister before I beat it into her."

Shiiit, it's coming out that soon? Oh well, maybe I'll try to get it for Hanukah or my birthday or something.

I miss the good old days where you could talk about smackin' a bitch and getting away with it.

So, I played like half of Assassin's Creed 1, but I'm picking up the new one for sure.

Am I going to be horrendously out of the loop or are the games pretty much standalone?

You may not be 100% up to date on the present day story. They haven't released any details on that that I'm aware of so I can't totally speak to that, but you should have a basic idea of how the animus works if you played a few levels of the first. Plus the present day story isn't nearly as interesting as the historical story.

This one takes place during the American Revolution. The first took place during the Third Crusade and AC2, Brotherhood, and Revelations took place during the Italian Renaissance so aside from a a possible reference or two you won't be out of the loop.

It isn't like Magik is some innocent little teen girl. She is a member of the New Mutants with a teleportation ability. Oh yeah she also happens to be the ruler of Limbo, a powerful sorceress, and has the Soul Sword. Someone along the line overreacted.

Does the scene make any more sense in context?

I did just notice I wrote Colossus and Magik were arguing. Allow me to correct myself and explain the scene in more detail.

As I said, the Phoenix Five were outside Avenger's Mansion and wanted to talk to Tony, who wasn't there. Colossus was trying to talk to Hulk, it wasn't entirely civil, but it was nothing more than a heated discussion, until Magik chimed in and started to get aggressive towards Hulk and threatened to fight him. Hulk told Colossus "You had better talk some sense into your sister, before I have to beat it into her." Colossus responded "Are you threatening her?" and Hulk replies, "Depends, does she like getting punched?"

That was supposed to set Colossus off and then he and Hulk were supposed to brawl throughout Manhattan. My guess is that since Magik is either A) female, or B) much younger than Banner and Piotr, someone thought it would be controversial for Hulk to say that, and the scene never made it to color.

Despite its historical settings, one of the main things that has always put me off giving Assassin's Creed a go is the fact that I hate games centred on sneaking around. They can be total snorefests.

Is Assassin's Creed like that?

So far, no, not really. You do spend a lot of time trying to avoid drawing the guards' attentions, but it's not like Skyrim where you have to crouch and avoid detection by moving slowly. In this you avoid detection by jumping from rooftop to rooftop, fighting your way through crowds, and general badassery. There are some duller techniques to avoid drawing attention to yourself like blending or sneaking pass guards by hiding in the middle of a group of scholars, but it makes up for it with the parkour aspect.

Also, it's possible to play it without worrying about sneaking at all, and apparently the "one man army" approach isn't exactly out of the question. I've been trying to avoid killing people if I don't have to, but after only a few hours of playing my death count is likely approaching 100. There are all these "save the citizen" side quests where you have to help a civilian that is being bullied by the guards, and you wind up having to kill like 5 or 6 guards in a pretty epic sword fight. These sword fights aren't exactly subtle either, it doesn't seem like it would be an Assassin's MO.

I'm enjoying the game thus far though, but I'm going to need to acquire some new abilities as the game progresses to hold my interest. The fighting sequences are becoming a little dull at this point.

If I want a game filled with parkour & killing I'll just pick up the Prince of Persia trilogy for $25, & just wait for the AC games to drop in price.

Can someone explain the phoenix force to me? I read a little on Wikipedia, and watched the old X-Men cartoon's version of the (Dark) Phoenix Saga. So I know it's a cosmic entity which is incredibly powerful. But after that, can someone give me a brief rundown of what's been added to the canon since the 1990/80s?

InFamous is >>>>>>>>>>> AC series when it comes to the combination of parkour & Killing. Though the Uncharted series is better than InFamous series. The Uncharted series is easily one of my top 3 favorite game series.

I thought InFamous was even worse than Assassin's Creed, in terms of repetitiveness. I never played InFamous 2 (since I was bored out of my mind with the first), but I did play Assassin's Creed 2 and enjoyed it quite a bit. I agree that the Uncharted series blows both out of the water, though. Spectacular games.

Hmmm, mindless killing, sneaking and parkour?

I am not convinced.

And history.

I'm not going to try to sell you on the game yet since I've only played for about three hours, but so far it's been fairly amusing, although it is repetitive. They make up for it with kickass scenery though and some cool cinematics. I'll give you a verdict once I've made a sizable dent in the game.

I've heard that the original Assassin's Creed really isn't very good, but 2 was awesome.

I've heard that too, and my roommates even warned me that Assassin's Creed doesn't compare to the rest of the series. But being the completionist I am, I have to play the whole series.

Also, Barbosa...

Interesting stuff. I have seen some similar university courses dotted around the world - I want to say Aberystwyth University in Wales had a Sci-Fiction degree that included modules on Star Trek, Star Wars and some of the time-travel type elements of Doctor Who.

It definitely could be a great way to get people to interact with a whole range of subjects that they did not really know that they were interested in. Dying subjects in particular could benefit greatly - think of doing an Anthropology course with the peoples of the universes of Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who or Elder Scrolls.

Reminds me somewhat of Razor's Batman Philosophy threads and the conversation I had with him regarding the Hood (the villain in Thunderbirds) and how he needed the heroes to be heroes in order for not only his espionage to succeed but also to save his life in the process. A lot of scope.

This conversation is just quickly reminding me how many games I own that I have yet to finish. I think my PS3 has been severely neglected, actually my 360 has been neglected just as much.

And now I just added XCOM: Enemy Unknown to my list of games that have me hooked.

Super heroes and philosophy could be a great course. There's a whole series of books I always see at Barnes and Nobles that take pieces of pop culture and connect them to complicated philosophical concepts. I can't speak for all of them, but I read the X-Men and philosophy one and it was FANTASTIC.

Those types of classes, however, aren't all the uncommon. Rarer than your typical college courses naturally, but I'd say one of three or four colleges have a quirky course incorporating an aspect of nerd culture into the curriculum. Unfortunately, they are usually psychology or philosophy classes, very rarely history or mythology classes, which is what this Skyrim class appears to be. That has me excited.

I watched a few YouTube videos reviewing the game and it sounds AWESOME. Glad to hear it has the Ty Burna seal of approval. That's a game I'm probably going to wait until Christmas break to pick up (along with the Deus Ex series) because I know I won't be able to put it down.

I was messaging with my brother and he asked what I thought of it and I boiled it down like this:

Turn Based Strategy RPG with aliens, guns, oh and you get to decide the fate of the world. How do you think I like it?

Ty you glorious fucker, I have been praising the game for the last week. It really is a great game. Hard, but in a way that you feel accomplished when you beat things.
