General Wrestlezone Tournament Discussion.

Okay, okay.. so The Rock and Chris Jericho, both as cocky, arrogant and opportunistic heels.. have defeated Steve Austin.. but surely those were just flukes. And besides, that's just one Canadian.. Sam's gonna need more proo...

Oh, hi Bret, what's up? What.. you defeated Austin when you were a heel? No you haven't.. you've never been a heel, liar. What, you have a video too?! (what's with all of you bringing videos)

Well, thats a really great tribute Bret, but it doesn't really showcase You and Austin's history. And besides, you weren't a heel when you first faced Austin.. I'm gonna need more proof.

Wow. You really were an arrogant, prick of a heel. You constantly whined about everything, but I gotta hand it to you.. you defeated Austin on multiple occasions, as a cocky, arrogant, opportunistic heel.

But, Bret, you were also a much bigger star.. Austin wasn't in your league.. so surely Austin never stood a chance, even in his Prime. (like he was) So you don't count, maybe if only there was someone less popular, and not nearly as big of a star as you wer...

Oh, hey Owen, how are things? What, you defeated Austin, too? Get out.. ANOTHER Canadian?! I'm gonna need proof.

Yeah, but, okay Owen that's a bit much. It was a 10 Man Tag Team match - in Canada - and you, as a heel, opportunisticly hooked Austin's tights. I mean, come on.. got anything else?

austin-neck-being-broken.jpg

Okay, okay that was pretty vicious and aggressive.. Hey, just like Edge can be. Interesting.

So, I guess there's truly only one thing to do..

Yes, Rock, yes.. lets sing him Goodbye.

Oh yeah, that was really vicious and aggressive, he botched a move! :p
You also forget to mention that Austin still won that match with his broken neck.

Austin should go over Edge for sure. Austin has the glowing recommendation of Vince McMahon, who called him the greatest WWE superstar of all time. His popularity speaks volumes. He won 6 world titles before the brandsplit, many of which were when the odds were stacked against him (unlike Edge who does it with the odds stacked in his favour).

We have the man who carried the company damn near single-handedly through a very intense period of competition against one who "carries" one of two (well, 3 now, including ECW) rosters through a period of monopoly.

Austin FTW.

More then Likely I'll be down for the next few days,b ut the staffers will be posting the Semi Final Matchups for this years Wrestlezone Tournament this afternoon...hopefully.

For the 2nd year in a row, the winner of the year before has made it back to the final four. Other then that, 3 of the men are first timers to this stage of the game.

I'm also glad to announce that all of the Canadians are out of the tournament, instead, we have an Italian in Bret Hart, Two Floridians in Jericho and Edge, and one man from Hell, The Undertaker.

Now If I can be serious for a moment, we are near the end. Take into account that these matches are the 2nd match of the night for all of these wrestlers, as we are now into the King of the Ring Style portion of the tournament.

Bret Hart vs. Chris Jericho
Edge vs. The Undertaker

One of these men will win the Tournament this year.

Bret Hart will get my vote from now on. I think he deserves to win this. Although Undertaker winning would be good as he won last year as well. Jericho and Hart would have an amazing match here, and I'd love to see it when both guys were in their primes. Damn it'd be great. The Undertaker should destroy Edge, but he probably won't. Jericho/Hart will be close, but Hart is amazing.

I agree with you on most things when it comes to wrestling. One thing we seem to disagree on is Bret Hart. Then again, I disagree with mostly everyone on him. By my standard, Bret Hart is extremely overrated. I'm hoping for Jericho, who is vastly more entertaining in all aspects of wrestling, to go over. As for Undertaker and Edge, given the recent explosion in the bar room, I think people are more determined than ever to eliminate The Rated "R" Superstar. The Undertaker is better than him in real life, as evidenced by all of their one-on-one matches (barring the one's where La Familia interfered). The Undertaker should come away with a decisive victory, and if he doesn't, Edge wins this tournament.

Going by the tournament's rules, there shouldn't be any question that the finals should be Jericho v. Undertaker. Edge and Hart had two hard fought matches, and were both very close, down to the wire. This would mean 'Taker and Jericho are fresh, since there matches were essentially squashes.

I'm a big Hart fan though, and am torn on who I'll vote for in that match. It'd be a technical showcase, and would be the exact opposite of Taker v. Edge. Edge is a hell of a competitor, but we've all seen the Deadman take him out too many times for anyone to justify a vote for Edge...Unless, they're Will.

Arguing this is quite hard when I also love Chris Jericho. After Shawn, Jericho and Hart are probably my joint favourites. In a tournament where I've voted personal favourite a lot, it made the match impossible to call by that. However, I think Hart has made more of a contribution to the business overall than Jericho has. He helped keep the company afloat in arguably the toughest time the business has seen. While I'm not arguing he drew amazingly, without him and Shawn, and a few select others, the WWE would be nothing now. Hart is also the better technical wrestler, and could use that against Jericho. Either way, I won't be upset at the outcome, but I think Hart deserves it more.

I don't think that Hart held anything together. He had lackluster feuds against Yokozuna for the title and fought against his brother. Sure, he put on good matches, but I have never, everrrrrr seen what the huge deal about Bret Hart was. I strongly believe that the company would be no different today without Bret Hart. A vote for Jericho is a vote against hypocrites, liars, sycophants, and failures.

Bret Hart puts on great matches. That's the big deal about him. Hart has had some of the best matches of the last 15 years. Hart's best matches are better than Jericho's best matches. At the end of the day, I could argue the business would be exactly the same without Jericho, because it's true. But Hart's contribution is bigger.

Bret Hart has had far greater superstars to work against. I'd also argue that Shawn vs Jericho at WrestleMania 19 was better than Bret vs Shawn in the ironman. And, for as positive a contribution Bret Hart has been to the WWE, he's had an equally negative contribution. The screwjob and the bitchfest the Hart threw are surely not positive things. Meh. I don't want to argue this right now. VOTE JERICHO!

I was going to mention both these guys best matches were with Shawn, but then I thought I'm pretty biased haha. Both these matches are good for different reasons. Jericho and Shawn wouldn't have been able to have that match continuously for an hour, just as Bret and Shawn had great matches other than the Iron Man.

Actually, it could be argued Montreal was the major kickstart to the McMahon heel era, which as we all know, led to the Attitude era, one of the most prosperous times the WWE had ever seen. VOTE HART!

If people vote Hart I hope it is for proper reasons and not "he throws the best suplexes" which cropped up in his match with The Rock. 'Taker has this one in the bag though.

Taker vs. Jericho should definetly be the final. Both had easy matches last round while Edge and Hart had really tough matches. Undertaker has also won most matches against Edge and I think that Jericho is more than capable of beating Hart.

A Jericho/Undertaker final would be great. I'll be pulling for Jericho in that match but at this point it's going to be near impossible for anyone to beat the Deadman.

How Jericho has got to this stage is beyond me. He's really just been lucky with who he's drawn and in what matches so far. He's finally run into a brick wall with Hart and I would bet my life that he won't be going any further.

As for Undertaker/Edge, well, there's video evidence of The Undertaker kicking the piss out of Edge on numerous occasions. The only way Edge actually managed to beat him one-on-one was make it Edge's specialist match and set a new record for underhanded tactics and run-ins used in one match. A win for Edge here would be positively ludicrous.

Bret Hart is easily the best professional wrestler out of everyone that's left, and deserves to win. He's by far the best champion out of the four, made the most impact, and has had by far the best matches. And he also has plenty of experience in winning tournaments.

Hart beating Razor, Perfect and Bigelow in one night to win the KotR, and Hart beating Sting and Benoit in one night to win the WCW Championship > Jericho fluking wins over Rock and Austin.

Undertaker will obviously win though. How can anyone beat someone who always sits up?

With great difficulty. I'm told that Bret Hart did it though, so he's my favourite to win the whole tournament. This will mean that Bret will have won the tag team tournament (with Jim Neidhart), the legends tournament (which is oh so legitimate) and the WrestleZone tournament all in one year. Triple crown much?

Not really. the Rock and Austin > Sting and Benoit. It's not how you win them, it's whether you win them or not. Also if Jericho has already beaten RVD and now he has Hart. Beating RVD and Hart would be less impressive than beating The Rock and Austin whilst Hart beating Rock and Jericho is about equal to beating Sting and Benoit.

Let's hope that nobody applies the logic that Hart is just much better than Jericho, otherwise both those theories just fall apart.

I like Jericho. I have his t-shirt. I sometimes even wear his t-shirt. The Hitman takes him out though.

Yes, let's hope that. Or if someone was smarter and claimed Jericho < Rock and Hart has beaten The Rock already so Hart is better.

hart should win, but if someone writes Hart wins because he is a better technical wrestler then I will be forced to vote Jericho.

You can't use the so and so beat so and so logic. It doesn't work at all. Jericho lost to CM Punk, who lost to Chavo Guerrero, who lost to Santino. Does that mean Santino is better than Jericho? Of course not.

You have to look at each match individually, and I think that Jericho will be in a better position to beat Hart after his having a realatively easy match against RVD while Hart had a brutal match against Rocky.

I got into this tournament late, but I must say, the debates here are just a pleasure to see. Is there a bracket somewhere for me to see how we got to the Final Four?? By the way, in case you didn’t already know, I’m voting Jericho all the way. Y2J!! Y2J!! Y2J!!

The thing is, this is the strength of the IWC. We can have heated debates on a number of subjects and know that it means nothing. I personally love the tournaments on here including this one. I think that people are entitled to vote for whoever they like and I don't try and sway them in any way. This is mainly because their votes count just as much as mine and I won't vote for someone and then criticise someone else for voting against my choice. I really look forward to seeing the next round though.

Congratulations to Bret The Hitman Hart, the winner of the Third Annual Wrestlezone Tournament. In winning, Bret Hart has won the equivalant of a Tiger Slam here on the forums, within the last year winning the Tag Tournament, Legends Tournament, and finally capping it off with the Wrestlezone Tournament Crown.

I'd like to thank everyone for participating this year. I think it'll be one of those things I go on saying for as long as I do this, but this year was bigger and better then the last, with far more participation, and far more quality posters getting in on the action on a regular basis.

It's been a fun 4 months running and setting this thing up, but I couldn't do it without everyone else. Without everyones participation, it wouldn't be worth doing. Thanks to everyone who voted, and more importantly, actively participated.

I will keep this open for another day or so, so any final thoughts, post them in here.

Also, we will be doing the WZ Tournament Awards in the Bar Room for those interested and brave enough to venture in there.

Right Now I have
Best WZ Tourney Poster
Best Match
Biggest Travesty
Biggest Upset
Match Outcome that Changed the Tourney.
Best Individual Post

and of course the Worst Wrestlezone Tournament Poster.

Again, Congrats to Bret Hart for joining the Undertaker and Shawn Michaels as Wrestlezone Tournament Winners.

Also, I take any suggestion for next years Wrestlezone Tournament, I think I have something in mind, but it maybe too early.

Thanks to everyone.

Make Lesnar a one seed next year is my suggestion and just give him a bye until the gimmicks. ;) I'm not a fan of Bret Hart, so it's not too exciting that he won, for me. Congrats, though, to everyone who supported him. I lost all interest really when Lesnar was sent packing. My early prediction for next year's winner: Hulk Hogan.
