Big Will's "take" on Survivor Series 2007:
The Matches: Overall, in general, I'll go down each match & list what I felt was both the good & the bad. Some matches might get one more than the other.
E.C.W. Championship: Triple Threat: C.M. Punk v. John Morrison v. The Miz: First & formost, if you're gonna have any type of additional man match, on a "Survivor" Series card, then why not make them all elimination type matches? It'd at least somewhat go with the gimmick of the night.
So, the good portion of the match, was that it was nicely done & well put together. I didn't think, I didn't assume, I knew that the three of these men had the capability of making something great happen. And while it wasn't exactly "great" it definately wasn't boring. I think this match did exactly what it was suppose to do. It got the crowd into it, more toward the end, but none the less.
The bad portion is that this match was completely predictable from the moment Morrison & Miz won the Smackdown Tag Team titles. W.W.E. might be repetative, but they aren't THAT stupid. They're JUST caming off a gimmick where two guys are Team Champions together, but one wanted the single's gold the other has. Therefore, they weren't about to give the E.C.W. Championship, to either of the now current Tag Team Champions.
Diva's 10 Women Tag Team Match: Mickie James, Maria, Torrie Wilson, Michelle McCool & Kelly Kelly v. Beth Phoenix, Jillian Hall, Melina, Victoria & Layla: Again, completely stupid to not just make this an elimination match, but I suppose W.W.E. is trying to go with their strength's instead of their weaknesses & dispite a couple people's disagreeing.. Four of the Diva's in this match, aren't valuable "wrestlers." (3 of which, alone, on the face side)
So, the good portion is.. the match at least tried to showcase every diva's good & bad talents. And it set-up what was well assumed, which was Mickie James v. Beth Phoenix, assuambly next month.
The bad portion is, too many bad apples, mixed with good ones, make the good ones go sour. What that means is basically put, did anyone else notice that the normally, or overly average (or good) female wrestlers, kinda botched & missed moves during that match, with other good female wrestlers? Its like if you mix one bad diva in with several good female wrestlers, the bad diva corrupts the whole bunch.
(Raw) Tag Team Championships: Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch v. Hardcore Holly & Cody Rhodes: The "special" bonus match for the night. (for those who don't go to wwe.com to find out sooner, anyways, I suppose) My only question, why not just do a Tag Team Tormoil? Again, it'd be a "survivor" type of thing.. eh, I suppose thats why I'm not on the creative side of things.. I mean, pfft, who'd wanna try & use ALL your talent for a top 4 p.p.v., right?
So, there isn't a lot of "good" for this match, but if there was a silver lining, it'd have to be that at least Cody is somewhat coming along better with his wrestling ability. Holly & Rhodes just don't make a good team though, they don't have "sync." I'd have to say that I was at least surprised to see Murdoch attempt his version of the Canadian Destroyer again, although it looked like nothing more than a simply flip pin.
This match had filler written all over it. (A few matches did, but this one wasn't even advertised) So, when a match is more or less tossed in, how often do you see the Championship switch hands? Yeah, a couple times, but not very many.. & besides, why give the titles to a vet & a rookie, when you can keep them on your best team, in the whole company??
Survivor Series Elimination Match: Triple H., Jeff Hardy, Kane & Rey Mysterio v. Umaga, Mr. Kennedy, M.V.P., Finlay & Big Daddy V: The match already started off lop-sided, due to Matt Hardy's "injury" keeping him from competing.. not that he'd need to, with Triple Dominance on the same team.
The good portion is obviously this match was packed with talent, & was a nicely done Survivor Series match. If they would've just packed the rest of the card, with similar-like matches, they might of sold better. (more elimination matches, not equally based talent)
To me, the bad portion was Triple H.'s team winning. What did it prove? Where would they go with it? They have the perfect opening, to allow Triple H. to lose to someone, possibly Kennedy, & instead, he gets taken out before Finlay?! The match went almost exactly how I pictured, until Big Booby V dove onto Kennedy, ultimately costing him his spot in the match. But I was more upset, that Triple H. (more or less alone) fought back from a 5 on 2 disadvantage. I just don't understand why they wouldn't of put over Kennedy.. apparently he's really screwed himself over within the company???
The Great Khali v. Hornswoggle: For those who love to NOT read, you'll be thankful of my review for this match. There wasn't anything to this thing, there was never suppose to be, apparently.
The only good thing I can say that happened, is Shane McMahon returned, apparently heel, & Finlay saved Hornswoggle & seemingly turned face. I loved both. Its good to see Shane, & maybe Finlay is gonna get some type of small push out of this deal.
This "match" had way too many bad points to name them all, so overall shit should likely cover it. I have NO clue what anyone was expecting, & I suppose that could fall under the good portion side of things, because I think everyone thought this was so stupid to begin with.. that noone was let down. Oh at as far as "Shaq" goes.. what the hell? All the Miami fans should've knew he wasn't gonna get up & do anything. He hardly does anything, anymore in basketball, why would he wanna attempt some "Shaq-Fu" on Khali? lol
W.W.E. Championship: Randy Orton v. Shawn Micaels: Everyone knows the stipulations, almost everyone believed something regarding a screwjob would happen.. & it did, I'll get to that later.
The good portion of this match, was I honestly highly enjoyed it. I'm a true H.B.K. fan at heart, & to me, Randy Orton does NOT have the ability to carry the main heel spot on a roster.. but overall, I loved how Shawn Michaels took practically everyone's finishing (submission) move, & botched it like crazy. He screwed up the sharpshooter, he reversed the ankle-lock, (which to his credit, I honestly thought he could've broke Orton's ankle far more than I ever thought Angle could've done it to anyone, just because of how badly it was done.. lol) & finally, if there was EVER a "sin" in wrestling, H.B.K. did it.. when he used the Crippler Crossface!!! (I about shit myself, I couldn't believe it, I loved it though)
Now then, remember how I said the people got what they wanted in the form of a "screwjob?" Well, look at how the match ended. H.B.K. could've easily "won" with a Superkick, like he normally does, but he had to pull back at the last second, knowing he'd lose if he hit it.. & ultimately, he lost anyways. SO, what did everyone get? A screwed up stipulation, that ultimately lead to SCREWING the fans out of a most likely better match.
World Heavyweight Championship: Hell in a Cell: Batista v. Undertaker: The match that everyone was waiting on, the entire night. And yet, if anyone felt there wasn't gonna be a screw job outta this match, because Edge hadn't showed up the entire night prehand, you were kidding yourself.
There was NOTHING good about this match. Taker & Batista have had far better single's matches, than watching these two attempt to pretend there isn't a huge steel structure around them. Neither of them used the Cell, more so then what you could do yourself in the SD v. Raw game.. which is lift your opponent up, & toss them into it.
I have no clue if Edge was under the ring, or in a cameraman type outfit. He was wearing what looked like a cameraman's outfit, & (duh) he had a camera. I think his re-debut could've been A LOT better. He attacked Undertaker, like assumed, & why? Probably because he'll end up blaming Taker, (Kane's brother?) for what happened to him.
Surprise Match of the Night: Shawn Michaels v. Randy Orton. Thankfully, "I" didn't set my standards high on assuming H.B.K. would win. I ran a scenerio in my head that he could, but honestly felt him not being able to use the Superkick was gonna be his doom.. &.. it was. However, what makes this a match of the night for me, was the fact that Shawn Michaels showed the world that he can be technical, as well as high flying. (Did everyone else see the Asie Moonsault?! Normally he does a side flip backwards, not a full on backflip)
Letdown of the Night: (tie/same match) Hell in a Cell/Edge's return. I was looking forward to at least some time of better interaction between Taker/Batista & the Cell.. & I had hoped for Edge's return to at least feature him coming out in wrestling gear, to music, & either attacking someone, or cutting a promo. Either would've been better than what he did end up doing, which I assume was play cameraman most the night.
Overall Thoughts: At least the p.p.v. went 10 minutes short of the 3 hour marker. I was really pissed with spending $40.00 on a 2 hour, 15-30 minute p.p.v. when it's being advertised as 3 hours. (card, CARD is subject to change, not the f'ing time limit)
It wasn't the "worst" p.p.v. of the year for them, but it wasn't close, or even remotely close to being worthy of being one of the top 4 p.p.v.'s that they put on, either. Overall, they need to just rename their shows, because they're no longer what they used to be. Next thing you know, the Royal Rumble won't have 30 guys, & it'll be an elimination chamber match to determine the #1. contender for Wrestlemania. (NO, thats NOT a good idea)
