Gamers unite -HQ

They're not so much ignoring them as pursuing technology that doesn't lend itself to easy ports, whether it be because it's underpowered or just unusual. If Nintendo could launch with a Call of Duty or a Grand Theft Auto, they would. As the Wii proved, if they gain the popularity, the ports will come regardless - even if they're shit. The presence of Skyrim - on the go, no less - in the trailer is interesting.

The question therefore is, is it worth buying a dedicated console just to play Nintendo's output? Or is this a unique enough experience to warrant a purchase? The answer for me is an unequivocal yes, particularly if this is them folding in their home console and their portable into one device, which one can only imagine it is, or will at least become.

The first question is "Can I afford a 2nd console?" and for most people that's going to be a no. Then it's a straight choice between Nintendo's catalogue and everything else. If they launch into an established generation with a weaker machine that can't play modern games, they're going to get killed again.
Regarding the casuals, this isn't the Wii. Look at the controller, it's not a casual-friendly thing, it's clearly for gamers and I think it's going to come back to bite them because the gamer market (Nintendo fanboys aside) have already invested in their console of choice.

I want Nintendo to succeed and I really wish they'd just build a traditional machine for once, so they can have their catalogue and the other games. In an era where console exclusives are rare, Nintendo's catalogue is their best weapon but not when faced with all the games they're missing out on.

They're obviously banking on the portability being enough of a unique selling point that people will want to buy one. It's unlikely Nintendo are going to catch the lightning in a bottle that was the Wii again, but go back twenty years and one could have said the same thing about the NES. They've certainly positioned themselves a lot better than they did with the Wii U, which even enthusiasts such as myself who love the thing are still absolutely baffled by.

More expensive and less data to be held on the cartridge than a disc or DLC.

Modern cartridges can hold up to about 128GB of data. Gears of War 4, to pick a random example, has an install size of about 70GB. They're also not appreciably more expensive than discs these days, i.e. not enough to actually affect the price of games.

Carts are economical to produce nowadays. And the removable storage is better than ever. Expandable storage is a thing too.

It's probably just my inner Sega CD/PSX fanboy then. I just always thought cartridges were better on handhelds.

My friend has it so played a few games, an hour and ahalf later and I didn't notice the time go.

The platformer I played was the best.
