Gamers unite -HQ

For PS/Xbox players to slag off PC gamers for focusing on graphics rather than gameplay is pretty hypocritical, especially when both Sony and Microsoft have spent the last decade trying to match the graphics capable in a PC and have moved increasingly away from varied gameplay and depth in the process.

And yet at the same time, they look down their noses at Nintendo for not putting cutting edge graphics high on their priorities, even when certain games on the Wii U, such as Arkham City, were as good looking and perhaps had better gameplay than any of the other three versions.

So who here is gonna play Elder Scrolls Online? I told myself I wouldn't, but then I accepted my fate.

Tamriel, I'm coming home this April.

The idea of having to sign up and potentially pay more to get the full experience still irks me.

I am a massive Star Wars fan and I have yet to give The Old Republic a go yet. My guess is that I will do the same with Elder Scrolls Online.

Come to think of it, I am still yet to complete Skyrim...

We don't treat graphics as the single most important thing, but we can tout that performance and graphics wise the games you play on console play and look better on PC.

Ok i should rephrase. Obviously not every PC gamer I've ever ran into treats graphics with the utmost importance but most do and that's what i never got.

Especially when we have a good amount of the same games released on consoles ported to PC, and of course we have the PC exclusive games too.

While there is a lot of exclusive PC games I love such as Cry of Fear and the ones with promise(Overgrowth if it ever comes out), and the bad ones(Gone Home), my general feeling is that if PC has a game that is absolutely fantastic then eventually it'll come to consoles. Hell the only game I consider of that caliber is The Witcher.

And yes for graphics cards it's imperative to have a good one. It improves performance just as much if not more than the graphics quality. With a higher quality video card you're talking about improved FPS and rendering just to name a couple of things that a new graphics card can improve. Right now my video card I have I spent $150 on, a video card mind you that I bought 2 years ago that still blows the Xbox One and PS4 out of the water. We've had the hardware capability for games on Xbox One and PS4 for years already, it's just that developers haven't had the technology with the older consoles to do so.

Imperitive? Maybe but spending $150-250 on one that may be outdated within 3 years? Bit excessive don't ya think?

So in reality we're not spending more than a console gamer would considering the console gamer needs to spend just as much to have all the capabilities a gaming PC can provide.

True. Honestly never considered that.

Have a huge feeling this might be the one MMO that won't go F2P upon being completely crushed by WoW but rather will give it considerable competition that The Old Republic couldn't. On the topic of that....

Don't play The Old Republic unless you're willing to pay the monthly subscribers fee and even then the game's not that good. If you play for free then be prepared to get access to not even 1/6 of what the game gives - you gain less money for quests, can access substantially less storage, its harder to level up, considerably less loot and raids available and you can only use the public chat system once every 90 seconds. The game emphasizes the greed of EA and considering it had a $300 million budget you'd expect more. Gameplay is the same basic MMO gameplay. If you're a Star Wars fan then give it a shot but I'm not sure it does the series much justice (There's tonnes of fanboys on the game ready to defend it though).

Perhaps, but my 2 year old video card plays games just fine all things considered. I won't upgrade that likely until games start requiring a shit ton more. I can play most games at Ultra or High settings, so until my video card gets dated enough that it can't even handle any new games or the card itself dies. I don't upgrade for the sake of upgrading unless I have no choice.

PC gaming is more about freedom. Having the ability to put graphics settings on what I want to get a framerate I'm happy with, depending on my hardware. Plus the plethora of games that are modable, and the much larger library of games. PC gaming isn't without limits of course but in general it allows more freedom/customazibility than consoles.

Though I am coming to appreciate consoles more lately (I am getting a PS4). Something about sitting down on a couch/bed/chair and grabbing a controller is starting to appeal to me a lot. Also my girlfriend actually wants to play video games with me so a console and a second controller is looking like something I will be pursuing a lot in the new year.

Can't we all just play video games and not worry about what console we play them on? It seems like a pretty petty place to draw a line.

...I didn't like skyrim... Gets me a TON of shit from my friends because of it too :(

I went to the bookstore yesterday, can anyone explain to me why on earth there's 200+ page books detailing the plots to Battlefield 4 and AssCreed 4? Wouldn't the BF4 book just be pictures of explosions and buildings falling over??

I know that the plot for BF3 was abysmal. By that, I meant it made Black Ops's plot look outstanding.

You haven't noticed there's always an assassins creed novel when the game comes out? I haven't seen the Bf4 one but I always see the assassins creed in big w

I have a friend who thinks Black Ops had a very good storyline. I have a friend who needs a slap.

I think I'm just more surprised that they can manage to spread out the plot that much so it manages to fill a whole novel length book. I remember seeing an assassins creed book last year but I thought it was either backstory (like the halo books) or a summary of the entire plot up until the end of AssCreed 3, not just one game in a franchise. Battlefield having a book though... Man that just doesn't click with my brain...

If spec ops the line had a novel version I'd read the hell out of that though.

Ooooh I played a PS4 yesterday for an actual play session instead of just loitering around at the game store - that controller is AMAZING.

I must be the only person in the world who didn't/don't like Skyrim.

I like the exploration of it but that's all it has going for it. Everything else is just style over substance. Except the combat. That's just total shit.

Gamers are stupid and people know that.

For a Call of Duty game Black Ops had a pretty nice plot I thought.

If spec ops the line had a novel version I'd read the hell out of that though.

That wouldn't give half the effect the game has. Since the majority of the game is a breakdown of modern devices in gaming; choices, extremely standard controls, senseless killing.

The game is fantastic but it only works as a game.

The "release a novel of a computer game" trend seems to be one gathering a lot of steam, especially when Rome II: Total War releases an historical novel based, from what I can see, on the character you play in the tutorial and the tutorial alone.

Unsurprisingly, as a reader and writer of history, I see no real need make up stories set in the past as there are plenty of stories that actually happened that are as good, if not better, than most things that writers make up.

Battlefield 3 had a plot? More importantly, you played Battlefield 3 for the Singleplayer. Multiplayer is where it is at, yo.

Though in the talk of Console vs PC, I enjoy my Console more for Multiplayer gaming considering the Console community are all playing on the same box so no one's bragging about rigs (cue filthy casuals.) While modding is fun on singleplayer games, on Multiplayer games you get cuntags who use aimbots and other hacks to ruin the game. Not to mention, It's far easier for say guys like Yazloz and others to join a group chat and get into one server than the clusterfuck of trying to join a Valve server and hope we can stay on the same team.

Tldr: I like PC for Singleplayer games like Dragon Age, Fallout Etc. But for games like Battlefield I stay on my puny, casual Xbox.

Okie dokie, anyone know of a book that has the same punch and impact as Spec Ops? I just wanna read something... :p
