Hotline Miami is the hardest game I've played in a long time. Somehow it will keep you playing through a thousand retries. Probably the fact that it has a great soundtrack and on the three hundredth retry you got just one room further - so close!

People watch cutscenes on YouTube rather than playing a game? Wow. Just wow. And regardless of what old games did, cut scenes are the norm these days as well as good graphics, fluid gameplay and an engaging story.

This guy knows what's up. The music is what kept me playing over and over again.

As much as I am enjoying Sonic Transformed, since the soundtrack of Skyward Sword popped up on a random play through of my music, I am getting a serious hankering to play something from the Zelda series.

If it was not for the lack of compatibility between the Wii U and the Gamecube, I would likely have already started Windwaker. Might go with Twilight Princess as I feel that it gets overlooked at times. It has a great end battle that is only beaten to my favourite by Ocarina of Time and had it been harder it would have been #1.

Worst part is that people are now jumping to his defence, Fez wasn't my thing but it was a great game to most and did exceptionally well during the Steam Summer Sale but Fish acts as if all the hate he's gotten for all this time is totally unwarranted.

Fact is: he's a whiny little fuckwit diva who is unfortunately quite talented in game design. He'll be back. Bet on it.

I just find it a step backwards because Adventure mode in Melee and Subspace Emissary in Brawl were both ace.

I loved SSE and how they created a storyline connecting all of the characters together, great cutscenes without a single line of dialogue too. Unfortunately I wasn't very keen on the gameplay, felt like a watered down Kirby game (same guy made both) and horrible enemy design. I'd have much rather had them fighting enemies from Nintendo games like goombas and metroids over shitty generic purple subspace things.

Agree with you that gameplay is more important than graphics. But cut-scenes are a necessary thing for games these days, it's become a story-telling medium. Which has been the best part of games in the last few generations. The death of Aerith or the unmasking of Revan (SPOILERS) could only be done in games and they're two incredible moments, even though I'm not a Final Fantasy fan. Don't use MK as an example, those guys couldn't write their way out of a paper back.

Y'know, there are games out there that tell great stories via cutscenes while still having great gameplay. It's not an either/or situation.

As for Nintendo, that's a dumb move. If they're worried about the story being ruined, people only see those clips when they specifically look for them. If they're worried about money, Smash Bros. doesn't sell for it's story mode. I may consider just getting the game second hand, cause I was really looking forward to the story mode, and I don't want to pay full price without it.
Again, it's a fighting game. the cutscenes are not at all important.

It's not like we're talking an adventure game where the gameplay is very story driven. It's a bunch of Nintendo characters fighting each other (along with a Capcom guy).

And I'd much rather they put the big story moments actually IN THE GAME then make it a stupid ass cutscene.

Exactly. Terrible enemies, story was nothing to write home about, and gameplay itself was terrible. People act like the single player mode was great, yet when the game came out that was not at all the sentiment of the majority. Smash Bros style gameplay is not suitable for adventure/platforming games.

That being said, I'd love to see them just put out a single player adventure game like Subspace Emissary as a standalone game. Or even a DLC pack (like Nintendo did with New Super Luigi U). Focus all your energy and disc space on the one mode, instead of having to split your (limited compared to the competition) resources.

If they put the cutscenes and adventure mode in the game, people would complain that it doesn't look as good as it should. Wii U discs don't have unlimited storage capacity. Put it all to good use by using it all on the gameplay for the modes that people actually give a shit about.

I disagree that cutscenes are at all important. A cutscene isn't part of a videogame - it's just a movie cut up and sprinkled over a videogame. It's like if you were watching a film and they went, "Oh, you know what? We can't really put this across in visual/audio form. Here, we're just gonna put the script on screen and you can read that for a few minutes."

What's more, animation and graphics have come to the point that even people who've clearly walked into the wrong building - Naughty Dog, Hideo Kojima - can tell a story within the framework of the game. They still refuse, and we end up with shite like Metal Gear Solid 4, which may well be more movie than game. Of course, Naughty Dog invented 'incredible action setpieces' where all the player is doing is holding forward on the thumbstick, so they can go fuck off to Hollywood too.

Edit: Oh, and Phil Fish would have got less abuse if he wasn't such an ********, but it's got to the point that he comes across as mentally ill, so maybe leaving the industry is actually best for him.

I've been seperated from my current gen consoles for nearly two months and I'm going crazy. I just want to play the Last of Us so badly...

Nintendo has just unveiled a new MiiVerse community for announcements relating to Eartbound.

My body is fucking ready!

Gonna be downloading some Action Arcade Wrestling 2 later. Looks pretty sweet.

That looks like the biggest ripoff in the history of video gaming. It looks like total crap.

My apologies to total crap, it looks much worse then that.

If it's in the same state enxt year I'd be worried but really it's not had any big games (that beign said I've got a nice collection building).

That's a pretty abysmal number even for a pessimist. When are the system selling games coming out? Like how much longer can Nintendo afford to depend on the 3DS?
