The biggest issue with the PS3 controller for me is something that cannot be modded. The Analog Stick is terribly located, and the directional pad (which is rarely used anymore) takes up prime real estate. Microsoft and Nintendo have it right, by putting the left stick in a more natural position on the controller.

A good point. Nintendo had it right - they invented that layout with the Gamecube controller. However, they seem to have forgotten the lessons which they themselves taught:

I forget about the Classic Controller, because I probably used it about 5 times. uncomfortable thing that was (at least the original one, I haven't used the Classic Controller Pro).

Easily the most comfortable controller I have ever held. EASILY.

I changed the image to use the retail version of the Wii U Gamepad.
I will reserve judgement until I hold the controller, but I think the Analog sticks are in good position. It doesn't look like the thumb will be awkward.

Turns out most games were designed to compensate for the deformed nub that is the c-stick, so not really, no. Still, it's a nice novelty. You're talking to a guy whose PS3 controller looks like this:

My PS3 controller is comfortably the best in the world, what with its concave thumbsticks and, well, concave shoulder buttons. I like my things concave. My 360 controllers remain untouched.

I've been holding off on buying those for a very long time. I feared that they would make the analog sticks extremely tall. Now that I've seen them sit on an actual controller, I'm sold.

What brand are they & where did you get them?

Can't say I've ever noticed that. Can't say I've ever looked at the codes.

I finally managed to use "Tyson Kidd in Miracle World" as a thread title.

Orb. I got them from Amazon.co.uk. You can google "Orb thumsticks", go to Shopping and hopefully find something there. Make sure they're 'sleeves' rather than full-fledged sticks. No faffing about with a screwdriver required.

2 1/2 weeks off work to recover from surgery.

I'm going to blast the fuck out of playing games.

Too many games coming out soon. My "to get list"
Lego Batman 2
Rhythm Paradise
Heroes of Ruin
Pokemon Conquest
Pokemon White 2
NSMB2

All by mid august!

In terms of games sold, undoubtedly (and it leads by over 100 million). However, Pokemon's also had 15 movies which didn't bomb.

Tomb Raider had movies that didn't bomb. Doesn't make it more successful than Mario.

Because Mario sells Nintendo consoles, Pokemon sells handheld consoles.

Average Mario game sales per year: 14.5 million
Average Pokemon game sales per year: 20 million

Combine that with Pokemon being successful in other forms of media (something Mario can't say) and it's not so cut and dry.

What's not cut and dry is that each pokemon game is released twice. So it's not so cut and dry.

Yet there are a number of successful Mario games released for handhelds, especially Mario Karts

Yeah but (until 3DS) it was Pokemon that shifted the handhelds.

All they have to do is bundle a big ass pokemon game (more content could be fit into a disc) with something like Hey You Pikachu and the kids will nut

The Mario franchise has been around since 1983, & has produced 203 games featuring it's characters. It has also produced 6 cartoons series, an anime film, a live action film, as well as a host of comics & manga series. Mario has also been featured in loads of merchandise including such items as lunch boxes, t-shirts, magazines, commercials (most notably his Got Milk ad), candies, shampoo bottles, cereal, badges, & plush toys.
