But that suff has nothing to do with the story. You could have all those things in it and still have serious tone to the story. I remember reading an article about the making of the game and they were quoted as saying "we wanted stephen colbert to be the president but then we were like 'fuck it your the president'" it just shows they didnt care for the story and just wanted to make an over the top game. Number 3 was over the top but the story still had a serious tone overall, especially the darker ending

A sample scene from Red Dead Redemption:

"I'm just doing this for my family."

John Marsden then massacres an entire saloon.

A sample scene from GTA V:

"Man, you're a fucking sicko, Trevor."

Michael then hires a prostitute and murders her moments after orgasm.

Silly as it is, Saint's Row is the only sandbox game that actually offers a cohesive world. Any other sandbox game, there's a total - total - disconnect between the character, and the world, portrayed in the cutscenes and the character, and the world, the player plays.

What Volition did was realise why - and how - people play sandbox games. It's not to watch a worse version of Goodfellas, it's to fuck about in the most grandiose way possible.

In fact, Rockstar really missed a trick setting a game in the Wild West and going for a stoic, reserved protagonist. If ever there was an opportunity to cast a remorseless psychopath...

I'm not arguing against it being over the top but dont solely focus on the over the top antics and ignore the basics of a game, like the map of SR4 is just dogshit to cover-up that IV is just DLC for III. Which is what pissed me off the most of that game is that they announced the DLC was cancelled and would be a full sequel then said it was an april fool's joke and then realised they had nothing and went back to the april fool's joke(which probably was a bit out of Voilition's control with THQ being on the verge of going bust)

Take away the over the top silly focus and you have GTA rip off #3523. The over the top and silliness they added to 3 (and especially) 4 was basically to let it stand up on it's own. Can you honestly say that the over the top stuff was a crutch becuase in my mind even without them it's still a great game.

Video game companies do that all the time Star Wars:The Force Unleashed II was basically DLC from the first game (or might as well have been)

We're gonna be arguing this forever. SR3 was fine as i said but the jump between 3 & 4, for me, was too great and I couldnt suspend disbelief I was just sitting there thinking 'this is stupid for the sake of being stupid'. For example, Johnny Gat being bought back(which was just becuase fans were mad) I actually didnt mind Gat being killed off it gave me a reason to hate the syndicate. Same as Carlos amd Lin's deaths in 2. As long as things are done to progress the narrative I dont mind how over the top they are. And it has to fit in the overall flow of a series

Allegedly Netflix are making a Zelda live action series.

I wish there were more details about the ideas or plans, but I am excited to see what they do with this. There are many ways they could go storyline wise & hopefully they choose well if they dont decide to just make a new adventure all together.

Yeah, who wants to sit through boring B-Movie gangster dialogue when you can just beat pedestrians with a giant purple *****. Volition took the best parts of GTA style chaos & turned it up to 11. Nothing wrong with that.

The Metroid Prime Trilogy being released on Nintendo's eShop has allowed me the opportunity to play Metroid Prime properly for the first time. I say properly because I bought a Gamecube copy of it when I bought a Wii and played through the first thirty minutes or so before never touching it again. I have to say, the motion controls are a great fit. First person controls, I'd argue, aren't really a great fit for a console with no proper second thumbstick. It's a really, really wonderful game.

Slowly getting through Majora's mask. Never managed the game before but I'm bloody impressed.

Just about to start the second dungeon. I've been taking my time with it which is how it should be.

Almost traded in my ps4 for a Wii U seeing as how it just collects dust practically since I bought it with nothing really peaking my interests out atm. I figured I would regret it once Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III come out though so I broke out the gamecube and have been playing that nonstop the last few days.

Gamecube has some amazing games that people didn't give the time of day on release. What you been playing?

I've been debating it for ages but is DMC: Devil May Cry worth a cheap buy. It's about a tenner now and I haven't really found anything else worth getting

Been playing Dragon Ball Xenoverse quite a bit lately. Love the RPG elements of it and the fighting aspects are a blast too. I was a fan of the anime growing up so going through the story from different aspect is a lot of fun.

Also got back into Fantasy Life on my 3DS. Forgot how much time I can kill on it.

My daughter and I have played Double Dash almost every day and I usually throw in Resident Evil 4, Tales Of Symphonia or Wind Waker on when I am by myself. Got all 3 at an old game store for 15 dollars.

Those recent Castlevania games are dreadful. I spoke to one of the team at Eurogamer a couple of years back - and was obviously too polite to tell him the thirty minute demo I sat through was shite.

Don't forget Silent Hill.

We need a proper good arcade footie game: a new FIFA Street or Mario Strikers.

Somebody needs to make a good non-WWE wrestling game. I'd pay top dollar for Super Mario Pro Wrestling or Everybody's Pro Wrestling or Sonic & Mario at WrestleMania.
