For anyone wondering about the Government budget stuff...

I believe I'm correct in saying Gordon Brown's last act was to cut his own pay. As Cameron had already said he'd take a percentage cut, it was reduced further. It's possibly bullshit, but that is spectacularly excellent bitterness in action.

Knowing congress, they'll still be paid in full. As will the President. And all other politicians. Just the working class people who need the money to pay the bills will have their pay cut.

Fucking politics.

Won't the military be retroactively paid for the hours they put in during the closure?

Besides, these things last about 4 or 5 days most, hell, most of us were alive for the last one, and probably didn't even notice.

Last year, Pennsylvania (state) workers didn't get paid for about 3 or 4 weeks, before the Governor got his head out of his ass and and allowed for them to be paid.

Granted federal isn't state, but no matter what, if it means people (who might live paycheck to paycheck) don't get said paycheck, there's a major problem.

Keep in mind with the last one there were actually two of them. One was about 6 days and the other was 6 weeks around Christmas. This isn't as cut and dry as it seems.

yea, but that wont be til the first, if its resolved between now and then. What are people supposed to do in the right now?

and the fact they are retroactively paid makes this whole thing ok?

Older veterans also. My uncle served in WWII and lives off social security (which will be the next big battle. This is just the dark match for that one) and his VA benefits. He's in poor health but hey, the GOP has decided that defunding Planned Parenthood is more important than taking care of the people that have fought or fight for the country so it's all ok right?

It's probably going to suck. I don't understand how the military is considered non essential myself. It doesn't make it OK, but it's fucking politics, and this is the system we're stuck in.

Social Security has been butchered to all hell and back. It resembles nothing of what it was orginally meant to be. LBJ fucked that whole thing royally when he made it apart of the general fund instead of keeping it separate like it was supposed to.

I don't put too much stock in the Planned Parenthood thing. That's simply the Democrats trying to save face with their constituents when they ultimately agree to something that will piss off their party base. The Republicans throw some shit out about how the Democrats won't agree to reduce the budget, in the end both sides save face.

Both parties can't afford for anything to begin, let alone be drug out. I'd be shocked if something isn't agreed upon in the next 5 hours.

I'd be willing to put a bet down against that.
