This is Chris Jericho, the first Undisputed Heavyweight Champion in WWF/E history against a great tag team wrestler. i won't take away from Hayes because he is a great tag wrestler but this is a singles tournament and Chris Jericho is one of the best singles wrestlers around today or of the last ten years. This man is a six time world champion and has pinned all of them, John Cena, Stone Cold, The Rock, The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels and the list goes on. Chris Jericho knows no bounds and this is simple for any wrestling fan:

i dont think hayes has ever held a major singles title

Hayes is awesome and just a fan guy to watch. However this is Chris Freaking Jericho. He is the best in the world at what he does and Hayes is not. Hayes is a tag team guy who was fun to watch and rather entertaining. Jericho can do it all should take care of Hayes rather easily here. A Liontamer should knock Hayes out here.

Chris Jericho will get my vote here.

Jericho was the first WWF Undisputed Championship, and he has more title wins around his waist. Hayes was an amazing tag team competitor, but he doesn't have as much title wins around his waist like Jericho has.

Vote for Chris Jericho.

I know I'm just begging to be called an idiot here but I have to give it to Michael "P.S." Hayes. Now a days Edge is considered the ultimate oppurtunist but that title had to belong to Hayes back in the day. He would constantly beat men that no one thought he could. I see him sneaking past Jericho, by no way a clean victory but a victory.

People seem to think Chris Jericho is overrated, a terrible champion etc. No matter what your thoughts are however, there is no way that Jericho does not walk away from this match the victor. Since his return to wrestling, Jericho has hardly slowed down at all and has secured himself a place in the Hall of Fame with an absolutely stellar run at the top, no matter your thoughts on the man.

Most of the acclaim that Hayes recieves stems purely from his time in the Freebirds, and putting some Skynard over his entrance. Sure, he had great feuds with the Vin Erich's but very little in the way of Championship gold, something Jericho has in spades.

Jericho wins.

While I'll give Hayes, he was a good tag team wrestler, and that's about it although, he's only held 1 singles competition title, rest was purely tag team championships, and while it was a lot of championships, I don't think that is gonna make any difference against one of the greatest wrestlers WWE has right now, one of the greatest on the microphone in the company right now, perhaps ever.
And Jericho, is so damn versatile that he can wrestle any kind of match, has held any kind of thinkable championships, he's the one with the most Intercontinental championships, I mean really what is there left for Jericho to truly do?
Hayes is the current booker of Smackdown, I'll give him that much, but that's not what's gonna make him win this match, cause I could easily counter with the fact that Jericho could become one of the greatest commentators or general managers WWE ever could cough up. or has coughed up in YEARS.

Jericho is without a doubt gonna pull this one off, having Hayes tapping like a girl.

The best support I can give to this was when Jericho faced Ricky Steamboat last year at Backlash, granted this was Steamboat who had been retired for so long but he still had it and gave Jericho a good run for his money but Jericho still beat him. To me, Hayes is not even remotely a shadow to the Steamboat that Jericho faced last year, let alone the one who faced Savage at Wrestlemania III. That's why you can't vote against Jericho, if he can beat a Steamboat who still was decent last year, or The Rock in his prime and Austin who just went beyond his prime, Hayes has no chance.

Simple as in my honest opinion, Jericho wins this for good measure.

Hayes was a legend in tag team wrestling... not as a singles star.

Chris Jericho pretty much speaks for himself. Some say he's just entering his prime RIGHT NOW... and this is years after he defeated Stone Cold and the Rock in the same night to become the... well, you know.

Jericho all the way.

JERICHO!

Amazing worker who is having some of the best matches of his career when most wrestlers would be winding down. Safe, reliable, and can work as a face or heel. I cannot name a bad Chris Jericho match.

Chris Jericho is the man!

Being that we share the same name I realy wanted to vote for michael hayes but I cant vote against jericho thers just no freaking way. Jerichos a hall of famer one of the greatest all around performers of all time plus he has fozzy. Y2j all th way

Hayes was a great tag wrestler, but short of a paltry US title reign, never did anything on singles stage. Jericho is an internet darling, and will probably do better than he should in the tournament, but I don't think that anyone can deny that this match should be his for the taking. A solid match, as it often is with Jericho, but he should win this at a canter.

While it's a moot point to even post in this topic except for Post Count Padding, I find it hilarious that the Ex-World Heavyweight Champion is wrestling his booker. That's fucking mint.

I don't see any reason Jericho shouldn't lose this match. To my knowledge, he has no major injures to exploit, no real weaknesses other than his over abundance of pride (The whole angle with Mysterio's mask) and a versatile moveset, of which he doesn't even use all of anymore cause he might show up some of the other big dogs. There really isn't much else to say other than citing matches, but that's better left for the second round when he's got a closer count in the votes. Jericho should make the final 16, even though I'm stating this blindly without checking his next opponent(s).

This tournament consist of "Wrestler A in his prime" vs "Wrestler B in his prime."

Michale Hayes in his prime is no where near the singles competitor that Chris Jericho has been at any point in his career, meaning Jericho doesn't have be in his prime to beat Hayes in his prime.
