Favorite bands that no one else has heard of

Excellence of Execution
I was driving home the other night, and this thread idea hit me.

What are some of your favorite bands that most people have probably never ever heard? Give the basic genre they fall into, what other more popular/mainstream bands the sort of sound like, and what is your favorite song by them or what you think would be a good song for someone else to use to get into them and any other information you wish to provide.

Band: Sinch
Genre: Rock
Sounds like: A lighter sound of Staind
Favorite Song: Something More
You should listen to: "Something More" or "Sails"

I heard "Something More" one time on the radio and fell in love with it. I picked their first CD up at Wal-Mart for $6.24 and it was the best deal I've ever made. The lead singer's vocals are not that great, but they really fit in VERY well with the music. There is nothing unique necessarily about this rock group, but they do what they do very well.

Most of the bands I've taken a shine too probably won't sit well with the majority of the WZ community, I am a musician myself, so yeah.

Minus The Bear-
Being that I'm from Washington and have an affinity for indie rock, these guys fit the bill mighty nicely. Whether it's the orchestration of the guitar parts, the beatiful tapping riffs, the catchy songs, or the amazing production, these guys are the total package as far as I'm concerned. One of my favorite bands that always seems to do no wrong for me.

Copeland
Some people may have heard of them, but I have a feeling that the majority of posters around here haven't really frequented the Militia Group catalog and wouldn't get down on this anyway. However, I'm posting about what I like, so these guys are in that category. I love the songwriting, plain and simple. At first the vocals seemed a bit whiny and desperate, but then I realized that this music was something I have to be in a specific mood to really listen to it. Just like when I listen to Pantera I typically am working out and am not getting ready to nod off to sleep. Mostly because Pantera makes me want to get up and break windows and stuff.

This is tough cause not many people even in New Zealand have heard of.
Ill start with a more well known band and go from there.
8footsativa.jpg
Band: 8 Foot Sativa
Genre: Death Metal
Sounds Like: Pretty hard to say what they sound like
Favourite Song: Season For Assault
You Should Listen to: "Season For Assault" "8 Foot Sativa"

There music was used on an Episode of Monster Garage, These guys are one of the two premiere Metal bands in New Zealand, They aren't played much on New Zealand Radio but they are occassionally, the newest album is out soon.

49331_logo.jpg
Band: Sinate
Genre: Death Metal
Sounds Like: Death Metal
Favourite Song: Beyond Human
You Should Listen To: "Beyond Human" "The Last War"

These guys rock, the Drummer Sam Sheppard is arguably the top Drummer in New Zealand, these guys are from Auckland, Sam Sheppard lives somewhere near me, A mate of Mine knows the band, Hopefully he can get me some tickets to actually meet these guys. They also were on the opening act for Slayer when they came to New Zealand.

Band: Chuganaut
Genre: Hard Rock
Sounds Like: They aren't your typical band
Favourite Song: Party Geek
You Should Listen to: "Party Geek"

These guys are a band that is just awesome, great band from the Waikato, Interesting lyrics and singing style but These guys are a nice and unknown band, but they are awesome.

I going to go with a my friends band- Awake Without
they're a local band that havn't been able to do alot of work on their albu because they're currentlly looking for a drummer, their old one left
check out a couple of their songs http://www.myspace.com/awakewithout

I don't think alot of people have heard of this band but anyway, Amphibious Assault, it's actully Fallon Bowmans band (the origianl lead guitarist from kittie) it has a Industrial metal sound, pretty bad ass, check it out http://www.myspace.com/amphibiousassault

Quite a few of my favorites no one has likely ever heard of man.

Fear Before the March of Flames - They've probably become more well known over the last year or so due to constant touring, but I've been a diehard fan since their first demo came into my hands from a friend of mine who originally turned me onto screamo. Fell in love with the music instantly, and these were the original guys to do it for me, along probably with bands like As I Lay Dying and Circle Takes the Square. You've probably heard of As I Lay Dying, as they've sold out pretty bad to the Headbangers Ball crowd, but CTTS are still very unknown, and IMO very underrated.

Plus, if you notice, that's where I got my name from. xFearBefore the March of Flames. Here's one of their best songs below..[sorry about the song being set to random Kingdom Hearts crap.]
Fashion Tips Baby - Fear Before the March of Flames

Aus Rotten - The group who's lyrics are in my sig, and simply put one of the best hardcore punk bands of all time. Whether it be their absolutely true anarcho lyrics, their raw emotion and energy, or the simply melodies that can be dissected from any of their hardcore songs, they just straight up kick ass. They broke up back in 93...damn shame.
Apathetic - Aus Rotten

Those are just two of the top of my head. I'm sure I'll return again with some more bands you've never heard of.

Thursday
People have probably heard of them by now. They are amazing. A mix of screamo, hardcore, and punk. One of my alltime favorite bands.

Brand New
This is my favorite band. The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me is one of the best Cd's ever made. They range from quiet acoustic to screamo to everything in between and it actullay works.

Maylene and the Sons of Disaster
I saw them a couple of years ago and I was amazed. They have the former Underoath frontman leading them. They are a Southern rock/hardcore band and their new CD II is unvelievably good.

Some of the best local bands are The Sophomore Attempt, who are kinda like Taking Back Sunday and Demorior, who are crazy death metal.

Weren't they the ones who sung "The Quiet Things that No One Ever Knows"? That was a pretty good song, once I got used to listening to it.

I'd have to say my favourite band are The Paddingtons, they're a local band but have a record deal with Mercury. They're just an indie/pop/rock band but they're something about them that just makes them that damn good. They're playing a free gig in September in the city' biggest park so I'll finally get to see them live, becaus usually their gigs are over 18s only. Honourable mention goes to my gutar teacher Dave's band Shindigg also.

Here's a vid of The Paddingtons, not sure if there are many indie fans here...

Nile

This band is amazing, definitely a one of a kind. They have such passion for Ancient Egyptian culture and they do such an awesome job coming up with their lyrics and the power and speed and intensity of their music are bar none in the Brutal Death Metal community.

best song ever

The Berzerker

This band has been toned down with some of their newer stuff, but some of their older stuff is without question the most brutal and hardest stuff that any band has ever produced. Most of their songs are short, but a 2 minute song from these guys feels like a 5 minute song from most other death metal bands. The drummer had a blast beat of 19 bps and he could reach that intensity on both hands.

listen to the power of this band

Crematorium

Just like The Berkerzer, this band is all force, brutal force. They have a little more melodic style then other Death metal bands, but they still deliver pure force, even though their songs are short.

Yeah damm right, minus the bear are brillaint, saw them live about a year ago when they did a small tour of the uk.

So bands that i like that no has heard of...

Hot Club de paris
Brilliant indie punk rock styling's with a touch of comedy.

Dry Kill Logic - Rot

Reverend and the makers
Brillaint stuff, Arctic monkeys sounding with more of an electro feel to it.

Reverend and the makers - heavyweight champion of the world

haha i love how i know half these bands (brand new, thursday, minus, and fear before)

but if you want a band to check out it's gotta be At The Drive-In, if anyone is familiar with the mars volta, it is their previous band and they are completely badical. Style i would call i guess alternative/post hardcore.

If you wan't a softer indier(is that a word?) band then check out the shins, cool ass band.

Two great bands there Ghana, I've been a fan of At the Drive In for ten years now, it doesn't get much better of an album than Relationship of Command---just classic songs like One Armed Scissor, Pattern Against User, Enfilade, and Arcarsenal. One of the best hardcore/screamo-type bands ever.

The Shins as well have always stunned me, got turned onto them from a scene in the movie Garden State (beautiful film, by the way) where the song New Slang was playing. Absolutely breahtaking song. Fantastic album as well.

Isn't At the Drive IN called Mars Volta now?

I liked that one song of ATDI that was semi-popular, always planned to pick up one of their CDs but never got around to it. As for Mars Volta, I've seen them live twice with the Chili Peppers as they always tour together, and they always put on a pretty good show I guess, it's just weird in such a big environment such as the 20,000 seat Bell Centre. They'd be good in a smaller club, i don't see them as a big venue band.

Mars Volta is an offshoot of the band after they broke up. The two most talented in the band went on to form the Mars Volta (a third former member of At the Drive In has since joined them) while the other guys formed a band called Sparta (mediocre).

Mars Volta is another amazing band though, I really dig the style that Omar & Cedric have gone into to encompass all styles of music and not just the hardcore and punk genres they were being labeled with.

Yeah i wasn't a big fan the first time I saw them live, possibly because the Bell Centre has pretty shit accoustics for that kind of music if you're sitting up in the stands, but when I was on the floor the second time I around they were much better. I got my hands on some of their music, I have to say it's great ambiance music, and I like how they incorporate various styles. It's very originial.

Heres some more...

This Bike is a Pipe Bomb
Amazing folk-punk/indie rock. The name enough should intrigue you to check them out. Absolutely amazing, their stuff is pretty hard to find, but heres a video of them playing one of their best songs, Murder Bike.

M.D.C.
Awesome hardcore punk at it's fucking most ferocious and finest. The name stands for originally "Millions of Dead Cops". Spiffy name huh? Here's one of their best songs, real fuckin hardcore people. Song: John Wayne Was a Nazi.

Big Boys
How to describe these guys? Originators of hardcore punk in Texas along with MDC, they involved all kinds of things, funkcore, skate punk, they were just crazy in every way and amazingly catchy and awesome. One of the most important bands for Austin, Texas. The first song is the one to check out here, its so catchy I guarantee you'll start dancing. It's called "Funk Off" and the second song is called "Baby Let's Play God".

The Gun Club
Amazing band thats indescribable. Lead singer died in early 90s, but they ruled in the 80s. This is their best song, and absolutely manic frenzy energy if you get what I mean. I can't even define it, punk-rock-folk-noise? Song: Sex Beat

Veruca Salt.

I don't know if many have heard of them. Popular 90's band. Nina Gordon was a great frontwoman. :)

LOOK SEE PROOF

Indie band, so cool going to be big, theyve been on mtv2 and radio1, just about to hit the manstream.

EXIT AVENUE

The best local band, destined for nothing but really good, theyve gone on a tour of America so if you are near any of the venues you should check them out.

Josh Garrels. He's a Muncie, Indiana based artist who writes a lot of Christian stuff. It's realllllllly good music, too. Not like most Christian music that makes you want to rip out your brain.

Cursed Diamond and The Dead Certs. Two local Leeds-based rock bands that are really going places music wise. If any wants to check them out, thier myspaces are;

www.myspace.com/curseddiamondmusic - Musically, sound a cross between Oasis and Black Rebel Motor Cycle Club

www.myspace.com/thedeadcerts - Bouncy music, a cross between punk and indie.

But then again, has anyone heard of 3 Inches of Blood? An awesome Canadian band that play power metal. Its great and they are great live. And not too far up themselves like other rock stars, they will stand and have a beer with you for hours!

There's a lot of em.

Heres some bands I listen to that I'm pretty sure none of you have ever, ever, ever heard of.

Defiance, Ohio

Flux of Pink Indians [don't mind the video, its random footage, the song in the backround is called "Tube Disasters"]

7 Seconds

I'm sure alot of you out there are probably well aware of this band here, but they're just too damn good for me to pass up posting one of their videos here.
Against Me!
Shit Stroll

Come on people! Post more in these threads! I love listening to random bands people recommend.

I loved seeing the At the drive-in mentions earlier on defenitely one of my favorite bands.

One band that people who really know music have heard of but not many other people have heard is Bad Brains they were really influencial for being the first black hardcore punk group to really make it big through their undeniable talent and great stage presence.

You are now my best buddy on WZ Freedom 35. Bad Brains are the shit. I listen to every kind of music really, but the most I listen to is old school hardcore punk like Bad Brains, Minor Threat, Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, etc etc. Well that and folk-punk like Against Me!, Defiance Ohio, and This Bike is a Pipe Bomb.
