The Awards are going to be funny as shit this year. At least five of you in here are going to have a shit fit when you don't win Rookie Of The Year.
As sad as this statement is, tdigle is right.
Honestly, I created this thread because I legitimately wanted to know the real categories of the EOY Awards, but I also thought it was a fun way for us to make up ridiculous categories and post who we feel should be the winners of them (i.e.
M.I.A. Poster of the Year = Tenta). In typical WZ fashion, we have been completely derailed and I just had to sift through 42 pages of jokes, campaigning for ROTY, arguing, banter, and some other funny shit.
If we're gonna talk about real categories and who should win, I'm just going to say that I can't get upset if I don't win (or get nominated) in the ROTY category with guys like Razor, Savagetaker, Phoenix, Dave, Lariat, and the other 2 billion incredible rookies that joined the forum this year. I know what I've done on this forum since January. And what I've done is nothing more than
the best that I could. I love wrestling, I love having people to bullshit about it with (even if it's on a computer instead of in person) and I love posting my thoughts on here and getting responses.
It's obvious that the EOY Awards is nothing more than a popularity contest and there's nothing wrong with that. So I'm not the "most popular rookie/n00b" on Wrestlezone... big deal. I'm not losing sleep over it. But why is it such a big deal? I know I've grown from someone who just knew a thing or two about wrestling to a completely well-rounded, strong poster in many of the different rooms on this site. I've earned the respect and backing of guys like IC25, Norcal, Becca, jmt225, and others... And in my opinion, that's plenty of recognition.
I'm not going to say garbage like "If I don't win ROTY I don't give a shit" because that is total horseshit. I've busted my ass all year to try and gain that accolade and I actually do care about it. However, how can I be
that upset if I lose, considering my competition?? As far as I'm concerned, the rookies of 2009 make up for about 80% of the best posts and most rational thoughts that have been put on this site this year. I contributed as much as I had time for and I really feel that I made an impact, so I'm happy.
So as far as I'm concerned (and back to one of the original subjects that I was aiming for when I created this thread), if there was a category for "Most Underappreciated, Overlooked, Easily-Forgettable, Dark Horse Rookie of the Year," I think I'd take that award. And if I win the real ROTY award, I'll be happy as fuck. But if I walk away with nothing but respect from my peers on this site, even though it won't taste as sweet, I can't help but still appreciate that anyway.
