What is the fucking deal with hating on the Kinect?

I am willing to wager that most people in here haven't even used it for any great amount of time. I, on the other hand, make a job of selling to people and it is an amazing piece of kit. Let's not forget that this piece of hardware allows you to play games without the use of a controller. What was only a pipe dream 25 years ago is not a fucking reality.

So, it is a very good nomination for biggest Mark Out.

I have one word for you, Dave: EyeToy.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eyetoy

Playing games without controllers already happened. The Kinect is not new, and it's just a way of attempting to cash in on the motion-loving casual market Nintendo was trying to court. The Kinect may be good, but it is in no way worthy of being the BIGGEST markout of the year.

Seriously, all this sounds like is the hatred of a new product from a Wii fanboy.

So what if the Wii started this craze? Does that mean that it should be exclusive to them? Of course it doesn't. Microsoft have taken on the Wii in their own market and I would say that they have bested them.

The Kinect is utterly amazing. Use it for a couple of hours and I guarantee that you will change your mind. I fully understand that people can feel free to comment on my choice for biggest mark out of the year but since it is completely subjective, I would say that you are way out of line.

Though wasn't it announced last year? I've seen it in action, pretty impressive.

Is it good? Yes. Is it the brand new piece of technology you claim it is? No, it's an updated Eyetoy. That's what I'm getting at - You're claiming it's something completely new, when it isn't.

So, it is a very good nomination for biggest Mark Out.
1. We marked out at it in May of 09. Since then, there has been no marking out.
2. Since the original reveal and all the cool things it did at E309, the quality of the product and what it does went WAY downhill. Where's that Milo thing that everyone loved at E3 09? Oh yeah, that was faked and isn't happening, because Kinect can't do it.
3. Sony did it a decade ago with EyeToy. Microsoft took their idea and used technological advances to make it less shit. So even then it isn't revolutionary.
4. The game quality hasn't met the price point of $350 US plus games ($150 US for Kinect and $250 for system).

Kinect isn't total shit, but all the hype that Microsoft put out with it has not even come CLOSE to fruition. Hence biggest disappointment. In time it might kick ass and deserve some props, but until they develop quality software and meet the INSANELY lofty standards THEY SET THEMSELVES, it's a HUGE disappointment.

OK, let me restate my claim.

The Kinect is well worth a mention for Mark Out Moment of the year since it is the single best piece of hardware or accessory to come out this year, in my opinion. Not only has it revolutionised the way Microsoft and their competitors will go about business for the next couple of years, it took what the Eyetoy did and completely blew it out of the water.

That is a completely fair claim, and now I'd be willing to accept the Kinect in the category. however, this is still for Markout moment - Natal was introduced a year ago, so that can't be the moment. Using Kinect For The First Time could be though.

I feel that the 3DS announcement is a bigger markout moment because of the technology packed into a handheld device. It's unprecedented: Adjustable 3D sans glasses, graphics rivaling (topping? can't remember) that of the Gamecube. Augmented Reality. Massive third party support, with a veritable laundry list of massive names backing and franchises set to be a part of the 3DS. On top of that, two series' I thought would never return, Kid Icarus and Mega Man Legends, are both announced for 3DS. That's huge.

Couldn't agree with you less.

1. I marked out when I was able to set it up and finally get to grips with it. Just because something is announced previously, it doesn't make the mark out when you get it physically, that much less. Do you think that Lee wont mark out when the next Zelda game comes out? Even though it has been announced previously? Of course not.

2. I couldn't possibly comment.

3. It is revolutionary. I guess that the Wii wasn't revolutionary either because it basically uses motion sensors like the Eyetoy did? Of course it was revolutionary! You have just reduced it down so much that you cannot see past the fact that Sony brought out a shitty piece of hardware 10 years ago that barely worked and flopped to fuck.

4.You're seriously going on about game quality and it has been released for less than a month? Come on, man.

1. No one said Microsoft (and Sony, for that matter) can't copy Nintendo, since they now realize Nintendo was on to something. Microsoft is doing something different then Wii, which is respectable. Sony, on the other hand, came out with PSWii.
2. We can comment, and we can all agree that we disagree with your opinion. I'm not knocking your liking it, I'm knocking your marking out over dated technology that we marked out for last year.
3. I can't use Kinect, I don't have a room big enough to have the TV, Kinect, and 100000 square feet of room needed for adequate gameplay.
4. I don't know about you, but I don't find having to jump around all over the place fun VIDEO GAMING. I'd rather actually have a controller.

I would think I did give a fair counter to the biggest markout. Nintendo made everyone mark out like they never marked out before with their 3DS portion of E310 press briefing. The 5 minutes or so of constant 3rd party announcements (to go with Kid Fucking Icarus, Star Fox, and Ocarina of Time 3DS), I'm surprised Nintendo Fanboys didn't flood the entire world with Jizz.

My favourite Peter Monolie in quite some time: "Someone left Milo on and as I walked by it went "Hello Peter! You look tired!" - it recognised me and saw that I was tired."

Fuck off, Peter. You're a cunt.

Good point. I just see marking out as marking out at a reveal, not first opening the box. To me you're marking out AGAIN when you first use it. 2nd markout isn't ever bigger then the reveal markout.

2. I couldn't possibly comment.
because everything I said is true. Milo was the biggest thing they demoed, the biggest wow of it all, and it was revealed to be not real.
No, Nintendo was revolutionary because of the motion CONTROLLER. Microsoft isn't as revolutionary because they took something IDENTICAL to Eyetoy, and upgraded it. Kinect is, and will always be, a MUCH better, more technologically advanced Eyetoy. That's not knocking them or the device, it's just fact.
4.You're seriously going on about game quality and it has been released for less than a month? Come on, man.
Yes I am, and for good reason. Wii had great games as soon as it came out. Kinect doesn't. Kinect also has nothing to appeal to the Hardcore gamers yet. Wii did (Madden, Zelda, Red Steel). The only thing Kinect has was some attempt at a fighting game that according to reviews is unplayable.

I haven't played Kinect, so I won't comment, but I don't think it's unreasonable to say its the biggest mark out - it's That being said, it's too expensive and Microsoft lack the likeability to make it anywhere near as much a hit as the Wii.

Annnyyyway, haven't bought much this year, but lets have a looksee.

Nintendo Exclusive of the year - It missed the cut by about ten days, but I'm nominating New Super Mario Bros. Wii anyway. It will almost certainly be Donkey Kong Country Returns though.
Sony Exclusive of the year - Not played on anything, but the graphics of Gran Turismo 5 should probably be rewarded
Microsoft Exclusive of the year - Halo:Reach probably
PC game of the year - My mate Simon bums Football Manager 2011, so that
Multi platform game of the year - The only new game I've bought this year is Vancouver 2010. I like it, you probably don't.
Biggest "mark out" of the year - Seeing Goldeneye and then Donkey Kong Country get rereleased
Biggest Dissapointment of the year - Not buying any computer games.

Nintendo Exclusive of the year:
Super Mario Galaxy 2.

Sony Exclusive of the year:
Heavy Rain

Biggest "mark out" of the year:
The announcement of the Nintendo 3DS and everything with it.
Mega Man Legends 3.
Kid Icarus: Uprising.

((Also, on a personal note, I was just browsing Wikipedia and noticed that they're making a Steambot Chronicles 2. I'd add that to my markout list if it wasn't apparently announced for PS3 in 2007, and I'm probably the only person in the world who played the original. :lmao:))

Here's a new Microsoft Exclusive of the year nominee (one that Dave would love): Kinect. I'd say it was the best thing they put out all year.

I think the mark out moment pretty much depends on who you are. I marked out when I got Pokemon Dark Lugia or something like that for the Gamecube. I don't mark out when a game gets revealed. I only mark out when I buy or get the game as a present..

I was just kidding about kinect Dave, sorry. I have never played it, but I didn't have a mark out moment so I just felt like saying that.

It saddens me that Mass Effect 2 is not getting a lot of mentions. That game was absolutely incredible.

No lyin'.
