Edge's Spear

Ever since two weeks ago on Smackdown were WHC #1 contender Edge would use the word "spear" which is his finishing move as often as possible on the mic. Which the WWE universe has been into with there chants. How many spears has Edge put Chris Jericho in by now?

But other than that! Do you think that the spear is a good finisher for Edge and has it been so far? To me Edge is tall but too skinny to use the move as a finisher. For somebody to use that kind of finisher it would have to be somebody like a Rhyno or a Goldberg really in my opinion.

Actually, i don't mind Edge's spear, i agree that he may not be the right size for a great spear, but i think it is an effective move and he at least makes it look pretty good. you look at Batista's spear and although he is the perfect size for it he somehow makes it look crap. Edge on the other hand makes it look alright in my opinion, but that is just my taste. As for the part with his feud with Jericho; i think it is a quite unique idea, but maybe not a great one. Basicly Edge has prmised to spear jericho on smackdown every week until wrestlemania. then they are saying that if edge hits the spear at mania then he will win. i'm not sure that edge's spear is good enough to have that kind of focus on it. it's being built up like if edge doesn'hit the spear then he can't win. which is a lot of pressure to put on a move that a lot of people have prblems with. BUt aside from this feud i quite like it as edge's regular finisher and dont really have a prblem with it.

i think it's alright, but it doesn't look as effective when edge does it.

How can you say that, look how much damage it caused when he speared Taker in HIAC and took an entire cell panel out!!!! Looked pretty effective to me. True he may not be built like Rhyno or Batista (who makes the spear look terrible btw) but i think the speed at which he hits the Spear more than makes up for that!!!

It's not really the person performing the spear that makes it look good, it's the guy taking/selling the spear that makes it look good. Which is true for most moves.

I love how the spear is being used in the feud between Edge and Jericho. It just sets a story for the match. I can see, just as the bell rings at WM26, Edge launching into a spear at Jericho with it just missing by inches. It basically sends a message that this is how suddenly this match can end. Therefore, it adds suspense in what I think is a pretty hard match to call. It's also nice that the spear chants are catching on at live events.

As for Edge's use of the spear, I like how Edge performs the move. Okay, he's not Batista's size but Edge is no small dude. I believe he stands at about 6 ft 4 inches and weighs in at around 250 lbs. I have no problem believing that someone that size running full pelt at you and driving his shoulder into your midriff will keep you down for a three count. I mean it's not meant to cause lasting damage or knock someone unconscious. It's meant to do enough damage for a pinfall. I do concede it does look very dodgy against bigger guys like against Big Show on Smackdown recently, but usually it's performed well by Edge and sold well by his opponents. So, i've got no complaints about the spear or how it's being utilised at the moment.

I love Edge's spear. The only one I remember looking as good if not better was Goldberg's. Lets face it Batista and Show's are lame and Rhino's most of the time barely hits the guy. I love me some Rhino but it's true. Anyway like Tiger said. It's not supposed to be a knockout move. BUt let a 6'4 250 guy run at your full force and drive his shoulder into your stomach. You're gonna stay down for at least a minute. It's gonna knock the wind out of you and that's all it takes.

I like the idea of Jericho fears the Spear. it's a good idea that isn't used much that the heel is afraid of the finish of the face to the point that it will eat away at him. It's something they haven't done in a while. I do like the idea of Edge going for it immedietly at Mania but missing to show Jericho that's all it takes. I would love to see him set up for it but not hit it a few times just to play with Jericho.

Edge's spear is one of the most useless finishers in the WWE. He barely hits it with force half the time and I'm supposed to believe it can put out big guys like Batista and Big Show. Goldberg's spear and Rhyno's gore would make Edge's spear look like a hug. If he is turning face, he needs to use the Edgecution more because that's is at least a decent finisher.

I think it's all about the application. Edge's spear has been a part of the industry for over a decade, and he pulls it off perfectly. Big Show does a spear, and I think it looks terrible. So it's not always size that matters.

I think it suits him quite well. And besides, you can;t just change finishers after you've been using one for as long as he has, and he uses it well. My problem is the promos on the move. We get it, Edge, your finisher is a spear, you don't have to remind me every 15 seconds. I mean, his promo with Big Show opening Smackdown made me laugh in shame. "Spear,spear,spear,spear," I liked Edge better when we were all wrong. Wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong WRONG! At least then, he could tell the kid when he grew up he was going to be wrong.

Ask Goldberg, Randy Orton, Jericho, Nunzio, and Christian and I bet they will all tell you that given the choice they would rather have Edge spear them than Goldberg because Edge's spear is weaker. You need to watch tapes of Goldberg and Edge's spear and come back and tell me which one would hurt more.

only reason jewbergs hurt was because he was a stiff reckless jackass and injured like 8 people. the whole art form is to give the illusion of hurting someone without actually doin it. also edge has hit many a mid air spears, spears through barricades, speared dumbass hardy in middle of poetry in motion(a ******ed,lame,slightly homosexual name for a move,btw)while he was on the middle rope. also edge first used the downward spiral now the mic check when he first started and gangrel used that implant ddt. actually edge did use that ddt of the top rope to retain the title against dumbass jeff.

I don't like Edge using the spear as his finisher. It looks weak. I'm sorry, it does. I like Edge a lot, but there have been a few guys before him (Rhino and Goldberg) who made it look really devestating. Edge just can't do that.

He is too skinny. He is not a "power" guy. I would like to see him develop a new finisher. Something sudden like the RKO. Something that doesn't need a big, muscular body to make it look good.


And yeah, Batista's spear sucks ass too. He SHOULD be able to destroy someone with it, but he lacks charisma and energy. Just like he lacks those two things in every other area of his game. Also, I am SICK of this "Spear..Spear..SPEAR" shit Edge is doing. It is really getting annoying. I had a lot of hope for him as face, but with this stupid Spear chant and a boring feud with Jericho, I am starting to want him to turn heel again.
