Domestic football - spam version

I'm talking his joining the band of mercenaries and destroying a club with his wages (among others).

Don't blame the mercenary; blame the condottieri.

I agree that his wages along with those of other players helped run a soon to be bankrupt club into the ground but it does work both ways. The club were desperate to stay in the premier league and offered higher wages then they could afford to try and stay up, if Finnan didn't take the contract they would have spent the wages on someone else anyway.

Edit: At least Finnan left after they got relegated and the shit really hit the fan financially for Portsmouth. John Utaka stayed for the first season in the championship and continued to pick up around 60 grand a week.

Cleverly isnt good enough and Gerrard needs to think 8 yards instead of 80 for once in his career. Wilshere/Parker next game please.

155,000

That's the combined attendance figure that is set to be exceeded at St. James' Park in an eight day period, with a near sell-out crowd seeing Fulham beaten on Sunday and confirmation that Thursday's Benfica tie and Sunday's derby match will both be played in front of full houses.

Not bad for a team in a relegation dog fight.

Just seen this on BBC live text, Danny Mills on 5 Live.

"When you look at United's bench, it's fantastic. Play bench against bench, United would win hands down tonight."

The benches in question?
Man Utd Subs: Lindegaard, Valencia, Hernandez, Nani, Cleverley, Kagawa, Buttner.

Man City Subs: Pantilimon, Lescott, Dzeko, Kolarov, Javi Garcia, Aguero, Toure.
Danny Mills is full of shit.

It's impressive but it's not a surprise. They sold out the stadium in most Championship games didnt they?

Neh just sold out a few times. Average attendance was about 47,000 which is 5K under capacity.

In a stadium that big, it's negligible. Still better than most teams would see after relegation.

I'm reading a book called Soccernomics, it's an excellent analysis of the economy of the sport. Most teams would see a 10000 attendance drop after relegation. Being in the north, the drop is minimised because it's more popular up there.

Yeah we're a one city team. Whilst I know loads didn't go after relegation ticket prices were cheaper and allowed a lot more people to get along. I went more in the championship than any other season.

I think it was about 8 games in championship, I've only managed 2 (3 after thursday) this one.
