Yeah, it came up after Liverpool won it in 2005 and finished 5th. After that, the rule is that there can only be a maximum of 4 teams from any one country so if Chelsea win the Champions League and finish outside the Top 4, they will take England's fourth spot over whomever finishes 4th.

It is total bullshit. Essentially, UEFA are potentially punishing a nation for having a competitive league.

They should make the winners start in the first round if they don't qualify from the league like Liverpool had to. All the teams in the first qualifying round would love to sell out their stadium for a game against the champions league winners.

To be fair, I'm not a betting person, so I wouldn't. but the way Villa are playing, it wouldn't be a longshot. It staggers me that a team who were round the top 6 for two/three years thinks it can sell and not replace their best players each year, and maintain that position. Barry two years ago, Milner the year after, Young AND Downing this season...and we brought in Stephen Ireland and Charles fucking NZogbia. Great strategy, really great.

And as far as the manager goes...just, fuck. I was willing to give him a chance, but he's done nothing to improve the club. Villa worked well as a counter attacking side and played some decent football, but now they jsut look like a barely-organized mess that offer up hardly any threat. Why Mark Hughes wasn't a better option I don't know. Actually, McLeish was probably cheaper, thats usually how Villa roll.

That said, I have a soft spot for Bolton, and don't want to see them relegated. Obviously not as much as Villa, but still...

Sure, they combine nice passing and lightning attacking at times, but they can be disastrously one dimensional, immensely boring to watch and at times criminally poor at the back. Their style of play is all well and good against Alicante and Almeira but when a decent, organised English, Italian or German side turns up? Holding onto the ball or having hundreds of millions of pounds worth of attackers on the pitch is not enough in itself.

Fair enough reason to dislike Villa, though rest assured I wasn't one of them. I rarely go to matches at the moment for two reasons. Number one, can't really afford it. Number two, a lot of the fans are assholes. Not all of them, but there are groups that are just complete pricks, and it puts me off going. Acting that way when a team goes down, or taking any pleasure in it at all, is pretty awful. I didn't even act that way when Birmingham went down.

And if you really want Zog back, have him. Please. He's a useless pile of shit at the moment, and he has a bad attitude to boot.
