At the end of every season, the teams that finish in the bottom three positions in the league are relegated to the division below. They are replaced by the top two teams from the division below plus a third that is decided through a short round of playoffs between the teams that finished 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th.

Pretty much but just to make it even more confusing League 1 is actually the 3rd league. There are four main leagues with professional status.

Premier League
Championship
League 1
League 2

After that you become a non-league team.
