Well that may be the reason why, but we can't put our faith in him as our number 1 striker like we did last season. One injury and we can forget about top 4. Without Sturridge our top scorer last season was Gerrard with 9 goals.

My point is just because it's needed I don't think its going to happen. The rumour isRodgers has a low budget and Liverpool have at least 3 strikers for next season so there won't be another one brought in

And my point is ill be very unhappy if it doesn't happen
Good thing about football rumours are that they're mostly bullshit.
Our season was thrown away last year because of a lack of quality upfront and an over reliance on sturridge, i'd like to think the club won't make that mistake again. Ings is a free signing, he's not meant to be a regular starter next season. He could improve though, he's still young.

If Liverpool sell Sterling and stick with the strikers they have now, the Europa League might be classed as a lofty ambition.

Nearly winning the league might turn out to be the worst thing that could've happened to Brendan Rodgers' Anfield career.

Looks like we're set to lose the third part of that triangle we already sold 2/3rds of in January with Ciftci on the brink of leaving. Dave, Celtic are apparently interested. You liking that?

I'm torn, actually. Ciftci is a good player, there is no doubt. That said, is he really better than Stokes or Griffiths? Perhaps. I would like to see Celtic aim higher though; and that's not a jab at United. The Celtic bank book is pretty healthy, they should be going out and trying to get someone to take them to the Champions League level. And whilst Ciftci is a good player, I don't think he's on that level yet. Armstrong and Mackay-Steven could potentially get their though. That said, if we can offload Stokes, Balde, and Pukki, then Ciftci would be a lot certain improvement.

He's a good player but he's inconsistent at times and has a bit of a temper on him too. I'd rate him as better than Stokes (as he is now) and potentially better than Griffiths. He needs to find that consistency though and I think he'll pull through.

It's a big loss for United though. McNamara has a good record of finding new stars for reasonable prices. I'd think they'd get maybe £1.5million for him though and that's good money for a player with 12 months on his contract.

Pirlo can undoubtedly still do it and it's high profile but the MLS already has a strong group of veteran players - Kaka, Lampard, Gerrard - so Pirlo does not add any more legitimisation.

The next level is being able to attract/buy high profile future prospects.

As long as the Acerage MLS teams have 9 players who would struggle to get in a League One team, it doesn't matter how many grandads they sign, it will still be shit. Xavi is playing in the Qatari league next year, it will still be shit.

Meanwhile, away from the retirement home, Cech has joined Arsenal. Anyone else get the feeling this might bite Jose in the arse a little?

I think the matter was out of his hands. Jose would have preferred to sell him to a foreign club that isn't in direct competition with Chelsea. But Cech wanted to stay in London and still compete and Roman allowed that. Probably in gratitude for his long service (head injury too) at the club and not moaning about losing his place in the first team last season.

Ciftci for 1.5 in then - not bad and looks like he'll fit in well at Celtic...given that've just bought our entire best front line from last season.

Good signing from Newcastle and never dull from Man UTD: Schwinesteiger could be awesome in that side.

£49 million is a good price for Sterling. What's amazing is Liverpool have said £50 since day one, and Man City probably see that million quid as a victory, despite the fact they're buying a player that has literally refused to play for his current club. City are the worst negotiators going.

I always used to rant that even in todays modern climate he wasn't a £100,000 a week kind of player. This is absurd.

Oh well, I can only hope he duds while I sit at home and stuff my face with cake.

I'm starting to think Liverpool exist in their own market. They sell players at ridiculous prices and buy them are the same inflated prices.

Well that's ok, because he will be a £200,000 a week player.

He's good, don't get me wrong, and he's not going to be Scott Sinclair or Jack Rodwell mark 2, but this is an astonishingly bad bit of business for Man City.

Giving a player who seemingly nobody else who could afford him wants more than twice what he was offered and buying them for nearly double your original offer is awful. The only way this will ever look like a shrewd deal is if he ends up being in the Messi/Ronaldo level of ability.
